The City of Sunnyvale is recruiting for a Principal Water Pollution Control Plan Operator.  This position, reporting to the Water Pollution Control Operations Manager, undertakes supervisory responsibilities at the Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control Plant (SWPCP). Their duties include providing instruction, troubleshooting, and maintenance related to plant operations, supervising training programs, ensuring efficient operation and maintenance of equipment, and coordinating with various stakeholders.

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

• Graduation from high school or tested equivalent, and
• Five years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant with at least 3 years at the shift supervisor level as defined by the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB).  The Senior WPC Operator position at the SWPCP is considered equivalent to the SWRCB Shift Supervisor definition.
• Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Certificate issued by the California State Water Quality Control Board
• Class C California driver's license and a safe driving record

DEFINITION

Provide analytical, coordination and operational support within the Development Services Department; primarily responsible for transportation planning functions. Provides secondary support to economic development and special events programs.

Receives direction from the Transportation Manager.  May exercise supervision over technical and/or support staff as assigned. 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Implement and administer the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program.
• Staff Liaison and administrator to Street Smarts Program and Traffix program.
• Assist in the implementation of other programs and projects within the functional areas of the team (e.g., TVTC, CCTA, SWAT, etc.).
• Serve as project manager on assigned transportation programs and related CIP projects, which includes background research, environmental review, preparation of public notices and staff reports, coordination of meetings and hearings, and oversight of implementation.
• Represent Danville on assigned regional transportation forums, including committees and subcommittees of the Contra Costa Transportation Authority and Tri-valley Transportation Council.
• Attend regional transportation meetings and ensure the Town’s positions are represented; advocate when directed and appropriate; participate on various local interagency and interdepartmental boards and committees; facilitate committee meetings as assigned.
• Perform funding/grant development and administration, including conducting research, identifying regional, state, and federal funding sources, writing proposals, preparing grant applications, and programming and administering awarded grant funds.
• Provide support to other departments, boards and commissions, and the general public.
• Conduct special research projects, including gathering, compiling and analyzing information; provide alternatives and make recommendations on courses of action; give presentations on findings.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of program budgets, monitor expenditures and revenues to ensure availability of funds, initiate invoices, and facilitate collection of funds.
• Administer Danville’s public electric vehicle charging program.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Modern principles and practices of transportation and urban planning.
• Project management skills; experience with development of transportation program development and coordinating the planning and design of transportation projects.
• Federal, state, and local transportation grant applications and administration.

About the Position:  The incumbent will be a part of a cohesive team of 15 in the Natural Resources Department, which is part of the Visitor and Field Services service line. The Earth Sciences Program is comprised of 4 fulltime program staff, including this position, and a shared intern. This is a supervisory position for the Earth Sciences Program, comprised of water resources, soil conservation, archaeological resources, Native American relations, and climate program. This position will supervise, coordinate, advise, and assist program staff and consultants in implementing the Earth Sciences Program to support Midpen natural and cultural resource management, planning efforts, stewardship and maintenance work, and capital projects.

Typical program work includes identification monitoring and protection of aquatic habitats; inventory, monitoring, and curation of archaeological resources, including coordination and engagement with indigenous peoples;  overseeing contractors and consultants, environmental impact analysis, and coordination and administration of permits from resource agencies. Work Environment:  This position will report to Midpen’s Administrative Office in Los Altos, CA.  Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work schedule for this position following successful onboarding.  In addition to working in an office setting to complete project tasks and at various venues across the San Francisco Peninsula to present information at public meetings, the Senior Resource Management Specialist will often work in the field and hike steep terrain and wildland areas with poison oak and wildlife.

A Master’s Degree is desirable. Professional work experience with parks and open space is highly desired.

What You'll Do

The Senior Planner works on, organizes, reviews, and participates in current and advanced planning work and acts as Zoning Administrator when assigned.  The Senior Planer also supervises the work of professional and technical planning personnel, projects, and other activities when assigned.  This class is the first supervisory level in the professional planning series.  It is distinguished from the next lower class of Associate Planner through its supervisory duties, when assigned, and its responsibilities for the most complex planning projects.  It is distinguished from the next higher class of Principal Planner as the latter is responsible for managing the current and advanced planning functions of the Planning Division.  Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Implement goals, objectives, policies, and priorities.
• Direct, coordinate, review, and participate in the work of professional and other planning staff in data collection, analysis, and implementation of a wide variety of planning, zoning, and environmental review activities.
• Act as Zoning Administrator when assigned; supervise special planning, zoning, and environmental studies, and plans; prepare oral and written reports and findings.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Community Development Department provides timely, public-facing, and internal services related to the review of applications for development and building permits, as well as code enforcement of the City’s development regulations. The Department has primary responsibility for the maintenance and implementation of the City’s General Plan, Local Coastal Program, Zoning Regulations, and Building Code, as well as environmental review of City and private development projects in accordance with CEQA regulations. The Department provides staff support to the City’s Planning Commission, Open Space and Parkland Advisory Committee, and Climate Action Adaptation Task Force.

The Community Development Department is staffed by 14 full-time staff along with the use of outside consulting agencies support as required. The Department is organized into three (3) divisions: Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement, and prides itself on providing a high level of services with a lean but talented team.

The Authority is currently recruiting for a part-time position of Environmental Compliance Inspector to support the West Valley cities/Town stormwater inspection programs. These programs help protect our waterways and the San Francisco Bay by ensuring that businesses and residents are implementing best management practices to prevent water pollution and are in compliance with federal and local water quality regulations.

The Authority is currently working to advance multiple stormwater initiatives such as trash reduction and controls for pollutants of concern such as mercury and PCBs. The Environmental Compliance Inspector may support these initiatives. An Environmental Compliance Inspector also responds to complaints of illegal discharges or connections to stormwater collection systems per federal, state, and local requirements.

THE JOB

  2. Persons employed in this classification must also possess a valid license to practice medicine in the State of California issued by the California Medical Board and be eligible for a California certificate to supervise physician assistants.
  3. Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, the incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record.

HIGHLY DESIRED

• EDUCATION: Master's degree in Public Health.
• EXPERIENCE: Experience with Incident Command System (ICS) activation. Prior experience working in partnership with community groups.

The Air District is currently accepting applications for the position of Air Quality Specialist I/II in the Rules and Strategic Policy Division. This is an open recruitment for two (2) full-time, limited-term contract positions. Both positions are for a 3-year term.

This is a Limited Term Contract Employee (LTCE) Position.  LTCE positions are funded by grants or other designated funds which are not part of the Air District’s ongoing general fund budget.  LTCE positions are subject to individual employment contracts and are limited to the duration of their funding source.  Regular employees have the right to apply for an LTCE position.   However, LTCE positions are not subject to the terms of the Employee Association MOU, and LTCE employees serve on an at-will basis.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Supervising Transportation Engineer in the Transportation Division of the Public Works Department! In this role, you will serve as the City's technical expert in the traffic engineering field. You'll oversee administrative, technical, planning, and design work while ensuring contract compliance with specifications and engineering standards.

Current projects and opportunities in the Transportation Division include the MLK Jr Way Vision Zero Quick Build, Southside Complete Streets Project, and other projects associated with the City's safety, accessibility, and sustainability goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in civil or traffic engineering and five years of increasingly responsible professional traffic engineering experience, three years of which were at a level equivalent to the Associate Transportation Engineer class.

Other requirements include:

• Possession of a valid California Registration as a professional Traffic Engineer or professional Civil Engineer. California Registration as a professional Traffic Engineer is preferred.
• Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, maintenance of a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.
