What You'll Do

The Public Works Supervisor will organize and supervise work crews engaged in the maintenance and repair of streets, traffic markings, signs, signals, street lights, drains, storm pump, stormwater conveyance systems and sanitary pumps, lagoons, dams, creeks and ditches; to provide technical staff assistance, including safety compliance and implementation.  Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Recommend and assist in the implementation of program goals and objectives; standard operating procedures; establish schedules and methods for street, traffic and stormwater conveyance systems maintenance and repair; safety compliance and implementation; implement policies and procedures.
• Organize and supervise crews of skilled and semi-skilled personnel in the repair and maintenance of streets and stormwater conveyance systems, including street resurfacing, streetlights, traffic signals and street markings and signs, repairing and patching; street cleaning; sidewalk, curb and gutter removal and replacement; sewer cleaning and repair; weed control and storm drain cleaning maintenance.
• Maintain and interpret time, material and equipment use records; determine and implement adjustments to optimize the effectiveness of the maintenance system.
• Investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions as necessary to resolve complaints.
• Fully utilize the computerized work systems in accordance with workflow processes.
• Participate in selecting, training, motivating, counseling and evaluating staff; participate in monitoring employee performance objectives; prepare employee performance reviews; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.
• Coordinate safety training and support Department safety programs including preparation and updating of City safety practices, standard operating procedures and training materials. May be asked to conduct specific safety trainings depending on training and experience. These activities may be required in both the Engineering & General Services and Environmental Services Divisions as requested by the Director.
• Inspect the work of crews while in progress; provide advice and assistance to subordinate supervisors and lead workers.
• Assist in preparing cost estimates for street, sewer, traffic and drainage system maintenance and repair activities; make plans and sketches for minor street maintenance and repair projects.
• Assist in coordinating street, sewer, traffic and drainage system maintenance activities with other City departments, divisions, and sections and with outside agencies.
• Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for needed equipment and materials; monitor and control expenditures.
• Monitor streets, traffic signs and signals, street lights, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and drainage facilities for needed maintenance and repairs.
• Issue purchase orders to contractors and vendors; requisition materials and supplies

The Public Works Supervisor receives direction from the Public Works Field Maintenance Manager or other Public Works senior management personnel and exercises direct supervision over crew lead workers, crews, and other staff per program assignment.

This is an exciting opportunity under the Technical Infrastructure Division in the Information Technology Department (ITD). The Technical Infrastructure Division designs and engineers solutions that address and meet the City's strategies built around Smart City initiatives, such as Digital Inclusion and Digital Equity, Public Wi-Fi expansion for Economic Development, Endpoint Modernization and virtualization, Multi-cloud frameworks, and digital analytics to support data-driven decisions. Salary Information: The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate's qualifications and experience. In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Enterprise Information Technology Engineer (EITE) I/II shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

Salary Range including the 5% non-pensionable increase:

• Enterprise Information Technology Engineer I: $121,583.28 - $147,944.16 annually
• Enterprise Information Technology Engineer II: $128,812.32 - $156,942.24 annually

The EITE I/II classifications are represented by the Municipal Employees' Federation (MEF) bargaining unit.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned. Incumbents may be assigned to either County Jail security or Court security.

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff. The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. There are numerous programs operating within the facility including medical, kitchen, exercise, commissary, visiting, law library, inmate education, work programs, work furlough program, and inmate classification.

This is an entry level position under general supervision to perform semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of the sewage collection system, flow equalization facility, lift stations, buildings and grounds maintenance and to perform related work as required.

The City of Orinda is searching for a motivated individual to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in the maintenance, repair, and construction of City streets and drainage facilities, sign and striping repair and replacement, graffiti removal, and vegetation trimming and clearing. All full time maintenance personnel in the City are responsible for after-hours emergency call-outs, including weekends and holidays, on a rotational basis.  Special and holiday event (including 4th of July) coverage may also be required.    This position is the entry level in the Maintenance Worker series, reporting to the Public Works Supervisor.

Examples of essential duties:

• Maintains and/or repairs City streets and catch basins; grade, scrape, and level surfaces in preparation for road paving; performs repair of curbs and gutters and paving of streets and alleys using pneumatic tools, asphalt rakes, and other hand tools;
• Removes and replaces road surface material and debris; load, transport and unload stones, gravel, dirt, supplies, and equipment;
• Installs, repairs and cleans storm drains, pipelines, catch basins, and storm drain grates; cleans and maintains catch basins and right of ways;
• Trims and removes trees; performs stump grinding and root cutting;
• Fills, patches, and resurfaces holes, cracks, ditches, and service laterals; installs and replaces street and traffic signs;
• Performs skilled operation of the bobcat, street sweeper, dump truck, equipment trailer, and other heavy and light equipment;
• Removes and inspects manhole covers and manholes; mixes, pours, and finishes concrete to raise manholes to street surfaces; replaces manhole covers as needed;
• Places traffic control and warning signs; serves as a flagman; sets up lanterns and barricades;
• Operates a chemical sprayer in assigned areas to abate weeds;
• Performs graffiti removal; and
• Performs preventive maintenance procedures and minor maintenance and adjustments on equipment used.

Minimum Requirements:

Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:

Education: Equivalent to a high school diploma; and

Experience: One year of experience performing a variety of maintenance, repair, and construction and equipment operation work; and

License and Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.  Ability to obtain Confined Space, Traffic Control Flagger, Trench Shoring, and Fork Lift Certificates.

Special Requirements: Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:

Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb and lift 100 lbs.; exposure to heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining work spaces, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations; availability for on-call, stand-by, and emergency call.

Primary Responsibilities

As an integral member of the Human Resources leadership team, this position will contribute insights and expertise on a broad range of Human Resources disciplines and issues.  This role includes managing a team of Risk, Safety, and Talent Development Analysts to ensure effective risk management, municipal claims processing, worker's compensation, insurance, occupational health and safety (OH&S) and talent development programs and initiatives.

This multi-faceted role includes the primary oversight of the following:

Talent Development

• Successfully lead the design, development, implementation, evaluation and sustainability of talent development programs and onboarding programs.
• Assess and make recommendations on the best learning methods for a diverse range of learning needs, including in-person/virtual instructor-led trainings (ILTs), e-learning videos, and more.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to evaluate training needs, and recommend, and develop training solutions, such as incorporating/preparing customized and purchased content.
• Increase organization utilization and integration of the employee Learning Management System.
• Coach and support supervisors and managers in employee learning, talent development, and performance management.
• Develop strategies for leadership transitions and work with departments to identify and develop employees for future leadership positions.

Risk & OH&S

• Drive the development and enhancement of risk management strategies, policies, and OH&S programs to minimize financial exposure and foster a safe workplace.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to proactively manage and reduce risk.
• Assure appropriate analysis of claims and loss data to identify trends and areas for improvement while maintaining claims databases and records.
• Oversee claims data, loss experience, and OH&S performance.
• Stay current on relevant regulations and coordinate with legal counsel as needed to ensure compliance.
• Manage the risk and OH&S function budgets and programs.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Communications Supervisor in the Public Works Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to oversee, plan, organize and direct the work of Communications Technicians and others performing installation and maintenance of electronic communications and telephone systems. This is the working supervisory level in electronic communications installation and maintenance work. Incumbents supervise, plan, organize, schedule, assign and direct the work of staff and provide technical assistance as necessary. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of electronic communications systems equivalent to a City of Berkeley Communications Technician. Experience in the repair and maintenance of GE or Motorola mobile and portable two-way radio systems and data communications hardware is desirable.

Other requirements include possession of a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be willing to work off-hours, standby, and overtime in emergency situations. Must possess good color vision.

Candidates must possess a valid FCC General Radio-Telephone Operators license at time of appointment.
