DEFINITION: Under general supervision, responsibilities will include but not be limited to light office tasks, customer service, set up and take down of facility equipment and janitorial tasks. Perform related work as required. This is a part-time, year-round position.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Set up and take down tables, chairs, audio-visual equipment, and other related material and equipment.
• Greet public and provide general information for all Recreation department classes, programs, and events.
• Daily janitorial/maintenance duties such as routine and special cleaning of restrooms, community center rooms (i.e. wipe counters, vacuum floors, sweep walkways, empty trash receptacles, replace paper products and litter pick-up).

Watershed Protection Division’s Stormwater Management Group – Trash Load Reduction Team
 
The Trash Load Reduction Team is responsible for coordinating, supporting, reporting, and implementing the Trash Load Reduction C.10 provision of the City’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Stormwater Permit (Permit). This position coordinates the implementation of projects in collaboration with other City departments and external partners. Key projects of the Trash Team include trash capture projects, the Direct Discharge Trash Control Program, creek assessments, cleanup coordination, grant and contract management, and reporting. 
 
Watershed Protection Division’s Stormwater Management Group – Monitoring and Pollutants of Concern Team
 
The Monitoring and Pollutants of Concern (MPC) Team focuses on reducing pollutants to storm drains from routine municipal operations; implementing control methods for pollutants of concern, such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), mercury, trash, pesticides, etc.; and assessing exempted and conditionally exempted non-stormwater discharges. The MPC Team works collaboratively with internal and external partners to address these regulatory requirements, and team members frequently support one another in various stormwater management activities to ensure compliance with the City’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Stormwater Permit.
 
Integrated Waste Management Division’s Residential Services Team
 
Residential Services oversees San José’s Residential Garbage and Recycling Program, which provides curbside garbage and recycling, yard trimmings, garbage processing, household hazardous waste drop offs, and junk pick up to approximately 331,000 households and over 140 City facilities through four contracted service providers with an annual budget in excess of $150 million. This ESS helps co-manage contractor agreements, perform data management and analysis for reports and presentations, and implement Senate Bill 1383 requirements and other state and local solid waste regulations.
 
Responsibilities include:
• Monitoring and evaluating contractor operations and performance to continuously improve service delivery and provide excellent customer service
• Providing public education and environmental advocacy

Sustainability and Compliance Division’s Sustainability & Policy Team 
The Sustainability and Policy team implements initiatives that support vital utilities for the community. This position assists the Energy and Water Building Performance Ordinance (BPO), which requires owners of large buildings in San José to benchmark energy and water use and make improvements if standards are not met. BPO staff annually assists more than 2,000 local building’ owners with compliance. Responsibilities include:
• Maintaining databases, noticing, and providing customer service for benchmarking and invoicing compliance

Sustainability and Compliance Division’s Municipal Environmental Compliance Group
 
The Municipal Environmental Compliance group provides technical support in the assessment, investigation, and cleanup of environmentally impaired or potentially impaired City properties/projects. Projects include fuel leak investigations, closed landfill compliance, and property acquisition investigations.
 
Responsibilities include:
• Performing Phase I Environmental site assessments and technical report writing
• Soil and groundwater sampling and field inspections.

Salary Information
The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience. In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Environmental Services Specialist Series classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay. 

The annual salary range for the positions are presently as follows:
Assistant Environmental Services Specialist: $75,260.64 – $91,465.92
Associate Environmental Services Specialist: $87,207.12 – $105,967.68
Environmental Services Specialist: $96,139.68 – $116,844.00

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Manage and assist with power plant improvement projects, performance monitoring, and other initiatives. Conduct feasibility analysis, and justification, and prepare plans, and budgets.
Lead or assist with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to investigate incidents that cause “forced outages”, equipment malfunctions, failures, or performance degradation at plants.
Provide administrative and end-user support for NCPA’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and Plant Information (PI Historian). Ensure that users are properly trained and the application is used in an optimal fashion. 
Support compliance with NERC/WECC reliability standards.  Assist in the preparation, review, collection, and organization of compliance evidence and associated procedures.

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Senior Water Pollution Control Operator. The ideal candidates will have a journeyman level understanding of Wastewater Treatment and the associated equipment and controls required to operate those systems. The Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control Plant is a Class V Wastewater Treatment Facility with Recycled Water production.
The Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control Plant is undergoing an exciting transition, we are replacing original processes, structures and equipment with the latest treatment technologies and we would like you to be part of that upgrade.  The SWPCP is currently constructing new Screening, Pumping, Grit Removal, Sedimentation, Odor Control, Power Distribution and SCADA system as the first major replacement effort.  The Plant is also in design for a new Secondary Treatment process with Dewatering and Thickening to carry the city forward in our on-going effort to protect the bay and provide high quality Recycled Water.

The Senior Water Pollution Control (WPC) Operator provides support for their team members on an assigned shift. The City of San José is seeking an experienced Deputy Director to oversee Energy Resiliency for the Department. The Deputy Director will report directly to the Director and provide City-wide leadership to explore, develop, coordinate, and deliver a comprehensive package of strategies, programs, and projects to improve energy resiliency. This is a time-limited (overstrength) position - budgeted for two years. At the end of this period, this role maybe converted to a regular position within the City of San Jose, evolve into a position within the management team of Google, or another third party, or be eliminated. This is an exciting new role helping to define the future of microgrids within the economic and political infrastructure of one of America’s most dynamic cities. A key responsibility of this position is to oversee all aspects of the City’s approach to enabling an advanced energy microgrid to serve Google's Downtown West Mixed-Use Plan. A major component of the Downtown West Project is an innovative large microgrid to more efficiently handle some of the utility needs of the development. Google is proposing an advanced microgrid electrical distribution system with renewable energy generation and storage resources distributed throughout the development. One of the main benefits of the microgrid is more resilient, clean, and affordable energy for the community within the Project. The Deputy Director will provide strategic leadership to advance the microgrid and is an integral part of the City’s executive team. Responsibilities include:

•Lead the development of a business plan and draft agreements for the City to provide electric distribution service to the development to enable the microgrid. The business plan would include expected rates, tariffs, operations, and organizational structure and include a detailed analysis of the opportunities and risks including the economic, climate, and resiliency risks and benefits of the City providing this service.

•Collaborate and lead technical work streams with Google to advance the microgrid.•Oversee and provide direction to consulting team(s) to develop the business plan, agreements, and any other technical analysis needed.

•Liaise with PG&E and consulting team(s) to advance the transmission interconnection of the microgrid, including overseeing various engineering studies and construction agreements.

•Oversee technical consultants to the develop the City’s engineering design and construction standards for the microgrid.

•Lead the development of City Council memorandums and other documents needed to advance the project.

This position will also work to advance several Citywide initiatives to improve energy resiliency and lessen the impacts of public safety power shutoff (PSPS) events and other power interruptions. These responsibilities include:

•Collaborate with the Office of Emergency Management and City Manager’s Office to provide technical guidance on the City’s Power Vulnerability Plan and response to PSPS events.

•Lead the development of innovative programs to advance onsite generation resources within the community.

The Senior Educational Facilities Planner (Sr. Planner) provides professional planning services that guide the physical development of the campus and assists in strategic development and improvement of buildings and space to support UCSC's mission of research, teaching, and public service. As a senior member of the unit, the Sr. Planner is the resident expert on campus and UC policy regarding capital matters, and provides assistance and support in all areas of planning for CPSM staff, campus leadership. The City of San Jose’s Community Energy Department’s is seeking a Principal Power Resources Specialist to join the Power Supply Team. Successful candidates should have a deep knowledge of California energy markets, relationships, and experience working with a variety of energy market participants, including: large energy trading firms,
independent power producers, investor owned and municipal utilities, and CCAs. The ideal candidates have strong analytical skills with extensive experience related to power trading and origination, and contract negotiations in California energy markets. The positions will be part of a fast-paced team, often working on multiple high-priority projects and short deadlines. Good judgment, initiative, and cooperation with other staff and outside stakeholders will be an asset to this position.

This position will report to the Deputy Director of the Power Resources Division. Successful candidates should possess the following:

• Extensive knowledge of energy market indices, pricing trends, seasonal market dynamics, and experience using this knowledge to improve power portfolio performance.
• Extensive experience in contract negotiations with large energy trading firms, utilities, and renewable developers.
• Extensive experience with energy contracts including energy and capacity transactions, the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) agreement, and short-term Western Systems Power Pool (WSSP) transactions, tolling agreements, and long-term power purchase agreements.
• Strong data analytics skills, experience implementing strategies, data driven in order to improve power portfolio performance.
• Experience in managing power bids and requests for proposals.
• Knowledge related to power generation technologies, major asset owners, risks and benefits of various power sources and contract structures.
• Knowledge and experience working with regulatory compliance agencies such as: the California Public Utilities
Commission (CPUC), the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) , CEC, FERC
• Experience with CAISO markets, or another RTO, power scheduling and settlement functions to ensure compliance and reduce market risks and costs.
• Experience developing long and short-term resource plans; including utility integrated resource planning to develop an electric utility’s resource needs to cost effectively meet expected electricity demand over a long-term planning horizon.

Education and Experience Requirements

-Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Economics, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Law, Natural Resources, Statistics, or related field to utility business. A Master’s degree is highly desirable.

-Experience: Six (6) years of progressively responsible related experience overseeing and administering energy resources operations, planning, purchasing, scheduling, or contract negotiations.

-Acceptable Substitution: A Master’s degree in a related field, may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the required experience. There is no substitution for the required bachelor’s degree.
