COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICER

This is a Full Time, non-sworn, recruitment. 

Under direction of a Division Commander and supervision of a Sergeant, relieves sworn police personnel from a variety of non-hazardous tasks and responds to service calls of a non-felonious and non-violent nature, and performs other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

• Responds to a wide variety of non-hazardous service calls and thoroughly investigates all details of incidents;
• Observe, report and may follow-up on conditions which pose potential threats to public safety, health and welfare and the quality of life;
• Read and write at the levels necessary to perform the job of a community service officer
• Write non-moving parking violations;
• Act as department liaison between homeless persons and local homeless, mental health, and social services providers;
• Investigate, report on, and arrange for towing of abandoned vehicles on public and private property;
• Provide traffic control at emergency situations, special events and at other times as assigned;
• Respond to, or assist sworn officers at accident or crime scenes by taking reports and photographs, fingerprints, prepare diagrams and other activities as assigned;
• Transport officers, equipment, witnesses, citizens as assigned;
• Provide special duties such as Court and District Attorney liaison, Crime Prevention and others as assigned.
• Operate records management systems and law enforcement databases;
• Keep confidential information obtained from law enforcement systems.

Must be available to work any shift, including weekends.

San Mateo Medical Center is seeking an experienced Surgery Scheduling Specialist for a Full-Time, Extra-help position for the Surgery Department. The Surgery Scheduling Specialist provides technical, complex and specialized administrative support to surgeons and patients scheduled for surgery, which includes interaction with operating room staff and patients; handles multiple competing priorities; interacts with diverse customer groups; handles multiple patient-related tasks such as tracking patient financials to ensure information is correctly entered; and moves patients from the clinic to the operating room, including all pre-operative processes necessary for the patients prior to surgery, pre-op process sheets and clinic schedules, data entry of items into the operative database, financial reconciliation, and post-op order sets, and may have some responsibilities for ordering supplies or equipment.
 
The ideal candidate for this position will possess excellent communications skills, including the ability to communicate complex medical terminology to a variety of people with varying levels of medical knowledge. In addition, they would possess skills in conflict resolution, and problem solving. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work with challenging patients, and patients who may have a language or communication barrier. This position will require attention to detail, and therefore the ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
 
NOTE: The ability to speak, read and write in fluent English and Spanish is preferred for this position.
 
 Duties for this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Tracking patient financials to be sure they are correctly entered.
• Scheduling patients in the procedure clinic.  
• Updating the pre-op process sheet and clinic schedule in the computer.
• Entering data into the operative database.
• Interfacing between the Operating Room and Surgeon.
• Ability to schedule patients using the OR manager program.

Qualifications

Knowledge of:

• Medical terminology as related to patient services support work.
• Policies and procedures related to patient services office support and hospital or clinic business office activities.
• Office administrative practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.
• Basic business data processing principles and the use of word processing or computing equipment.
• Proper form for typed materials.

DEFINITION

 

Under general supervision, performs parking enforcement activities; occasionally performs a variety of routine law enforcement activities, including serving subpoenas, fingerprinting, relieving at the complaint desk, and processing abandoned vehicles; performs other related duties as required. This is not a sworn Peace Officer position; no weapon will be authorized.

 

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

 

Performs assigned duties relative to parking enforcement which are of a routine and limited nature, including enforcement of parking regulations, observes and marks parked cars, issues parking citations, contacts vehicle tow service for removal of cars parked illegally, and explains parking regulations to motorists. Other responsibilities include directing traffic, carrying out school security checks, police station security checks, and vacation checks, processes abandoned vehicles and animal complaints, handles transportation details, prepares reports of actions taken and unusual incidents observed; testifies in court when citations are contested; and fingerprints citizens.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Ability to: Understand and follow verbal and written directions and Department rules and regulations; learn standard broadcasting procedures of a police radio; prepare clear and concise written reports; observe accurately and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents and places, think and act quickly in emergencies, interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

 

Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Age: Must be 18 years of age for entrance.

 

Physical: Have the physical strength, stamina, and agility adequate to perform all duties of a Police Assistant I.

Position Summary

 

Under general direction of the Director of Engineering Contracts, performs technical work related to preparation of contract documents, requests for proposals and formal bids, and administration of professional services agreements and construction contracts. May act as a liaison between District staff and professional consulting engineering firms or construction contractors. May serve as a contract administrative assistant to project engineers on design and construction projects. Maintains detailed and accurate records of contract compensation invoices, progress payments, status and schedules. Communicates with other District departments regarding engineering contracts. Performs related work as required.

Essential Responsibilities

 

• Assists in preparation of requests for proposals and formal bids, professional services agreements, and construction contract documents
• Assists with the preparation of contract amendments and contract change orders
• Performs invoice reviews and confirms invoices comply with contract requirements
• Reviews contractors' certified payrolls for compliance with contract requirements; performs labor and Small Business Enterprise / Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (SBE/DBE) compliance duties, such as, but not limited to, verifying certified payrolls with inspection daily diaries, performing contractor and sub-contractor employee interviews, verifying on-site postings of Federal and State required notices, keeping current records of Federal and State Wage Determination changes
• Assists with the review of extra work bills from contractors
• Assists with maintaining Engineering Department budgeting and accounting records
• Types correspondence, reports, forms and specialized documents related to the engineering contracts
• Researches information on the Internet and in the electronic and hard copy files for government rules, regulations and codes, historical information and certified documents
• Composes contract correspondence
• Assists with compiling Daily Diaries, matching them to their respective Extra Work Bills and entering the information onto a spreadsheet
• Prepares spreadsheets and reports for project status, summary of submitted invoices, requests for anticipated budget increases, etc.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service
• Performs additional related duties as assigned
• Regular and reliable performance and attendance is required

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education and/or Experience: 

A combination of college level training and position related experience equivalent to:

• A Bachelor of Science degree in Business Accounting or Construction Management. Additional public works contract administration experience may be substituted for education and training on a year-for-year basis

• Five years office contract and administration duties with an engineering or construction related company; experience in verifying invoices in varied forms; working experience in technical and legal document editing

• Five years of recent administrative experience requiring the use of initiative and independent judgment

• Demonstrated proficiency in using advanced word processing and basic spreadsheet functions

 

Physical Requirement: 

Mobility to work in a typical office setting. Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen. Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Routine use of computer, telephone and other office equipment. Ability to travel to District facilities.

Working knowledge of:

• Engineering office and construction contract administration principles, practices, and terminology
• Office practices and procedures, including record keeping, report preparation, filing methods, and the operation of common office equipment

General

The Manager, Government and Community Affairs reports to the Director, Government and Community Affairs and is responsible for strategic development and management of government and community relations with a primary focus on the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans). .  Assistance with San Mateo County Transportation Authority and SMCEL JPA efforts may be required on as needed basis. This position will focus on local agency, stakeholder, and community engagement and assist with regional, state, and federal efforts.

Essential Functions & Duties

 

• Direct activities that support robust, diverse, and positive engagement with communities that are served by the agency.  
• Plan and execute multilingual public participation and communications efforts for strategic and operations planning, infrastructure, and other projects.
• Manage agency relationships and lead engagement with local stakeholders including cities, schools, and business and community groups, across San Mateo County and neighboring areas.
• Lead cross functional teams to ensure clear and timely communication on key policy, project, and planning goals and to respond to stakeholder requests and concerns.
• Provide strategic guidance to agency leadership and teams.
• Coordinate activities that support the creation and mobilization of a broad coalition of third-party advocates to build awareness and effectively promote the agency’s overall activities, policies, and goals.
• Participate in management and engagement with state and federal lobbyists and legislative activities, preparation of the annual state and federal legislative program, their contract and budget.
• Assist in overall departmental management including budgeting and department policy development.
• Supervise SamTrans Government and Community Affairs staff.  Hire, mentor, and take appropriate corrective and/or disciplinary action.  Ensure EEO policies and procedures are followed. Participate in the selection of staff.  Coordinate staff training and professional development. Establish performance objectives. Monitor and evaluate employee performance.

• Write, review, edit, and approve collateral materials, including webpage content, presentations, fact sheets, project updates, work notices, and newsletters. 
• Manage staff and report progress on projects to Government and Community Affairs Director. 
• Evaluate job performance of staff which also includes the professional development of staff through the identification of on-the-job and other professional development opportunities.
• Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect one’s self, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm. 
• Perform other duties as assigned. 

SUPERVISION:  Works under the general direction of the Director of Government and Community Affairs, who establishes goals and objectives and evaluates performance.  

 

Minimum Qualifications

Sufficient education, training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.  Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:

• Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Planning, Public Policy, Communications or other related field.
• Five (5) years of full-time experience in the area of policy development, public engagement, political campaigns or other relevant field.
• Two (2) years’ experience managing professional staff.

 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Possess critical thinking and independent judgment with direct impact on community engagement and strategic planning
• Ability to work on evenings and weekends. 
• Must have a valid California driver license with a safe driving record.

What You’ll Do:

The Assistant/Associate Engineer will help support efforts to accomplish short and long-term project deliveries, while sustaining the City’s mission, vision, and goals. The position is considered for the following field of interest:

• The Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) Division’s key assignments include planning, designing, reviewing, and preparing detailed engineering plans, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, contracts, and related documents for a variety of capital improvement projects. Roles include project manager and construction manager, with duties that include leading coordination meetings, interfacing with construction contractors, outside engineering firms, construction inspectors, and other public agencies.

Woodside Fire Protection District offers an exceptional Cadet Program for individuals interested in a career in the Fire Service. Cadets gain hands-on experience participating in training and public service events. Cadets work 24-hour shifts and ride-along on emergency calls.

Woodside Cadets will work and be involved in:

Emergency calls, firefighter training, public education events, fire prevention, station duties, CERPP, CPR/first aid training. They must also meet monthly hour requirements and attend monthly training drills.

The Cadet term begins in July 1st 2024 through June 30th 2025.

Cadets must have a valid EMT certification, proof of medical insurance and a valid California driver license in order to apply.
