JOB DESCRIPTION: The Park Ranger Assistant provides information and assistance to the public and enforces laws, rules and regulations (including sections of the Fremont Municipal Code) pertaining to park and recreation facilities.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (This is a general description of duties and is not all-inclusive)

• Responsible for patrol and general supervision of Central Park and its recreation facilities and picnic areas
• Give information and provide assistance to the public acting as a City of Fremont liaison
• As a Public Officer, may enforce the Fremont Municipal Code within the park system including issuing citations
• Knowledgeable of the rules, regulations and ordinances of the City of Fremont park operations
• Maintain continual radio communication with other staff
• Provide traffic and parking control as needed
• Provide emergency animal services
• Conduct historical and natural history interpretive programs for children and adults
• Responsible for patrol/supervision of other facilities/ parks throughout Fremont as needed
• Perform minor maintenance work on equipment and facilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 18 years old; Over 21 preferred
• Must possess and retain a valid class C California Driver's License
• Willingness to comply with suspected child abuse reporting (11166.5 PC)
• Employees are required to be certified in Adult/Child CPR & First Aid from American Red Cross, American Heart Association or supervisor approved equivalent. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire date or prior to the first day of work, whichever occurs earlier.
• Fingerprinting and negative TB test results are required
• Must submit verification of legal right to work in the United States as a condition of employment
• Must have ability to pass a physical examination
• All candidates must meet the following physical requirements:
  • Swim 50 yards without stopping
  • Sit or stand for long periods of time (90% of assigned shift, possibly in excess of 10 hours)

• Maintain a high degree of confidentiality in performing all aspects of assigned responsibilities
• Respond to emergencies in a timely and safe manner and produce competent reports of incidents and injuries

SELECTION PROCESS

Qualified application will be evaluated on the basis of related experience and quality of presentation.

The most highly qualified applicants will be invited to an oral interview. Applicant evaluations may include a written and physical test. Satisfactory candidates will be placed on an eligibility list. Placements are anticipated immediately after the list is established. The Greater Vallejo Recreation District invites applications for:

The Greater Vallejo Recreation District is a Special Service District that has been serving area residents for over sixty years. As a Special Service District, GVRD operates as a separate government agency from the City of Vallejo. GVRD manages 407 acres of public park space including 20 neighborhood parks, 10 community parks, 6 special purpose parks, and Olympic-size swimming pool and 4 community centers.  GVRD maintains over 1,000 acres of public land. 

GVRD is governed by a five-member Board of Directors. With 30 plus full time and approximately 155 part-time and seasonal employees, GVRD operates on a 2019-2020 fiscal year budget of $7.9 million for general fund operations and Measure K funding amounting to $2.2 million.  The Measure K funding is being utilized to purchase necessary equipment, improve parks, facilities.

Job Description:

DEFINITION
Under supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, this position manages Recreation staff, programmatic leadership, assigned area budget, and cross departmental collaboration. Top candidates will assist full-time and part-time staff with all Recreation related needs, community outreach, and perform a variety of technical tasks as directed.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED EXERCISED

• Receive immediate supervision from higher level Recreation staff. Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a regular group of employees (1 or more full and part-time employees) including providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/ effectiveness, performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed. 

ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS- Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:

• Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
• Plans, organizes, schedules, promotes, evaluates, and leads recreational activities in area of assignment.
• Reviews applications and enters reservations in recreation software. Schedules meetings with customers/general public, processes permits and payments, assists with event layouts, and enforces rules and regulations.
• Ensures the safety of equipment, building, and surrounding areas through inspections and takes action to resolve any issues.
• Monitors budget revenues and expenditures. Completes monthly cash flow report and annual end of year report. Proposes new fiscal year budget and justifications.
• Responsible for preparation of programmatic annual budget and justifications.
• Respond to questions, complaints, and emergency situations. Takes appropriate courses of action and notifies supervisor whenever necessary.
• Prepare a variety of administrative and financial reports on activities and operations. Orders supplies, as needed.  Maintains records and invoices.
• Develops a strategic action plan for area of responsibility incorporated as part of the development and implementation of Division and District goals and objectives.
• Completes activity guide list and proposes new programs for the organization. Markets and advertises for new programs.
• Collects fees for classes and/or programs. Issues receipts, balances and reconciles accounts, and  submits to Finance Department.
• Performs related work as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

• This position is relative free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards and requires medium physical effort. Incumbents may be required to exert up to up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Typical work week is eight (8) hour days, five (5) days a week. However, depending on needs, incumbents may be assigned an irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.

THE POSITION:

This is a temporary part-time position:  Approximately 20-40 hours per week depending on the needs of the department.

THE POSITION: Under close supervision, perform unskilled manual and semi-skilled manual park maintenance work, and perform related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The incumbent should have the ability to read, write, and carry out oral and written directions, maintain cooperative work relationships, and operate various park maintenance equipment. Individuals must possess a valid California Driver’s License and a good driving record (recent DMV printout required). This is seasonal work which will include weekends and holidays depending on the needs of the department.

Covid-19 Vaccination Requirement:

The City of San Rafael, Child Care Division is accepting applications for Child Care Aides to work in our School-Age Programs.  We are looking for people who are available Monday through Friday from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m.  This is a great part-time position for someone who attends school in the morning.  No weekend work required!

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:

• Assist Director and Instructors in planning and implementing activities.
• Assist in the supervision of children at center and on center outings/trips.
• Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of equipment and materials.
• Assist in the preparation and clean-up of snacks.
• Must have a current TB
• Other related duties are assigned. 

REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge Of:

• Child Guidance Methods
• Developmentally–appropriate practices and curriculum 

Ability To:

• Accept direction from supervisor
• Establish and maintain effective relationships
• Work as scheduled

Experience

• Some experience with school age children, preferably 6 months.
