DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:

     The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.  In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Park Ranger classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay. 

     The Parks, Recreation & Neighborhood Services Department is looking for highly motivated, personable individuals with strong leadership skills and innovative ideas to become part of a dynamic team of employees with a strong commitment to providing excellent service to our diverse community. Bilingual applicants speaking a second language such as Spanish or Vietnamese are encouraged to apply.

     Under supervision, this classification performs duties of moderate difficulty including performing overall work in park operations and visitor services; resource and environmental protection; greeting visitors and explaining/interpreting park features; collecting and accounting for fees; performing rescue and fire suppression activities; administering first aid as needed; patrolling parks; enforcement of state and local laws; performing conservation programs and projects; providing lead direction to other park personnel; coordinating and leading volunteer and internship programs; providing traffic and parking control; and preparing written and oral reports and other communication.

     The Parks, Recreation & Neighborhood Services Department currently has approximately four full- time permanent positions.

     The selection process will consist of an evaluation of the applicant's training and experience based on the application and responses to the Job Specific Questions. Additional phases of the selection process will consist of one or more interviews, one of which may include a practical/writing exercise.

A POSITION IS OPEN FOR:

MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT I

This is a temporary part-time position:  Approximately 20-40 hours per week depending on the needs of the department.

Position:         Per Diem Maintenance Assistant I

Salary:             $19.71 – $22.50 hourly (depending on experience)

THE POSITION: Under close supervision, perform unskilled manual and semi-skilled manual park maintenance work, and perform related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

• Cleaning restrooms, emptying garbage cans
• Removing weeds and trash from parks
• Assist in mowing, edging, pruning, fertilizing, and seeding
• Perform a wide variety of general grounds and facility maintenance work including raking leaves, cleaning walkways, removing debris, cleaning restrooms, and related work.
• Water, weed, prune, renovate, and landscaped areas.
• Turf care including mowing, thatching, fertilizing, plugging, and installation of new turf areas.
• Prepare soil and plant flowerbeds, shrubs, and landscape areas, including staking, fertilizing and other necessary procedures.
• Utilize a wide variety of hand and power tools and landscape maintenance equipment.
• Move and install park and recreation equipment.
• Assist in loading, transporting, and unloading equipment, materials, debris, and other heavy objects related to maintenance.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The incumbent should have the ability to read, write, and carry out oral and written directions, maintain cooperative work relationships, and operate various park maintenance equipment. Individuals must possess a valid California Driver’s License and a good driving record (recent DMV printout required). This is seasonal work which will include weekends and holidays depending on the needs of the department.

Covid-19 Vaccination Requirement:

Under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor, the Casual Maintenance Custodian Assistant serves as the worker in the duties of care and cleaning of assigned buildings and related facilities.  The incumbent may be required to travel between several City buildings during their scheduled shift.  This recruitment is to fill a position that has been designated to cover a night shift from 5 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., including weekends.  This recruitment may also be used to fill similar casual positions throughout the City;  shifts and schedules may vary and may include daytime shifts as needed.

The City of Redwood City’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Department is looking for people interested in working approximately 15-20 hours per week, working the special events programs operated by the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.  Incumbents will typically assist in setting up, monitoring, and breaking down the events all while providing excellent customer service to visitors.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Follow event plan and execute assigned duties effectively and efficiently; monitor or manage interactive recreation areas which may include, but are not limited to, arts and crafts, organized games, sports, drama, social recreation, and music/singing activities; supervise recreation participants insuring that proper safety precautions are observed in assigned activities; maintain and care for equipment as appropriate to help promote recreation activities effectively; assist in organizing, promoting, and managing special events; assist in setting up, monitoring, and breaking down the events; report to supervisors orally and in writing; complete assigned paperwork such as timecards, attendance reports and/or incident and accident reports; perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Wastewater System Supervisor

THE POSITION

The City of Chowchilla is seeking a full-time Wastewater System Supervisor who, under general direction, supervises, develops, and directs the work of staff performing difficult and complex technical and administrative support related to all programs and activities of the City’s Treatment Operations and Collection System Maintenance Operations; assists with long- and short-term project planning and overseeing the design, construction, maintenance, and operations of the wastewater collection system and wastewater treatment plant, facilities, and related appurtenances and other programs; works with technical and engineering staff to monitor and maintain water quality in accordance with State requirements; coordinates assigned activities with other City departments and outside agencies for services such as meter reading and repair; provides complex and responsible support to the Public Works Director and others in areas of expertise; and performs other duties as assigned.

Incumbent serves as the Division Manager of the City’s Treatment Operations and Collection System Maintenance Operations system. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, supervising, reviewing, and evaluating the work of wastewater operations, maintenance, and operations staff either directly or through lead workers. Incumbents are expected to independently perform the full range of wastewater treatment and collection, maintenance, and operations duties. Performance of the work requires the use of considerable independence, initiative, and discretion within established guidelines. This classification is distinguished from the water worker series in that it has direct supervisory responsibilities.

• Provide corrective feedback and proper stroke technique.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Must possess current ARC Water Safety Instruction certification. WSI certification required. CPR certification within 6 months of hire. ABA training is a desired skill. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and react quickly to emergencies.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Candidates receiving a conditional job offer must pass a pre-placement fingerprint review. Candidates must be comfortable calling 911 in an emergency and providing care according to the level of training.

Sweep, dust, mop, strip, and polish floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets and rugs; dust and polish woodwork fixtures, and equipment; wash windows, walls, and doors; empty and clean waste receptacles; empty recycling containers; clean restrooms and maintain supplies; clean kitchen and lunchroom areas and appliances; dust and clean air vents; Move furniture as required by for cleaning; set up rooms for special events; replace light bulbs and tubes; maintain inventory of equipment and supplies; sweep exterior building entries; secure facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:  Methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial maintenance.

Ability to:  Understand and follow written and oral directions; clean and care for assigned facilities in a safe and efficient manner; maintain and appropriate public service demeanor and positive customer service interactions; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Physical capability to:  Perform sustained manual labor; lift, climb, stoop, crawl, and bend to reach work

Experience:  One year of full time custodial maintenance in public buildings or offices.

Education:  Graduation from high school or equivalent.  Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years.

License:  Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License.
