DEFINITION: Under the supervision of the Teen Coordinator, provide leadership and supervision of teens             as a positive role model in their afterschool program. Must have the ability to plan and implement daily tasks and develop curriculum. Program hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 3-6pm, Wednesdays from 2-6pm and Fridays from 3-5pm. Teen Director is required to work occasional evenings and weekends for special events. Approximately 15 hours per week with the potential for more hours.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Applicants must be 18 years or older.
  • Ability to engage with teens ages 1014.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in childcare, educational or childhood development OR a degree in Education or Recreation.
  • Plan, organize and execute one themed activity daily Mondays through Thursday.
  • Possess strong leadership in one or more of the following areas: arts and crafts, sports, music, special events, multimedia.
  • Maintain structure and discipline while encouraging teens to participate and enjoy the program.
  • Train, supervise and delegate tasks to other staff members.
  • Perform daily responsibilities and maintain a clean, safe environment.
  • Ability to take direction from supervisors.
  • Communicate appropriately with parents/guardians of teen members.
  • Enforce rules and policies of the Teen Zone Program as well as those of the Community Center and Recreation Department.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other agencies and the general public.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Teen Zone Director will lead Teen Zone, a daily drop-in program for local middle school students. While on duty, Teen Director may be responsible for check-in and check-out of participants, oversee an in-house snack bar, and facilitate set-up of the Teen Zone game room (including setting up video games, ping pong table, quiet homework spaces, and more). Light cleaning duties will be expected.

CERTIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess a current CPR/AED and First Aid certificate and be comfortable calling 911 in an emergency or be willing to obtain one within the first six weeks of hire. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
