Description

Do you love children and want to be involved in your community? As an After School Program Director, you would provide leadership and supervision of elementary aged students as a positive role model in their afterschool program. You will plan and execute age appropriate arts, crafts, or activities daily to keep students engaged through program duration.

DEFINITION: Oversee, plan and execute a supervised after school program for elementary age children during the school year. Hours include Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 2pm – 5:30pm and Wednesday from 1pm – 5:30pm, excluding non school days. Approximately, 19 hours per week, preparation hours can be discussed.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and communicate effectively with schools, parents, and children.
  • Possess strong leadership skills in their chosen area of expertise.
  • Create and implement your own curriculum within an allocated budget
  • Plan, implement and lead age appropriate arts, crafts, or activities daily.
  • Manage the task of checking in and checking out each child to the proper guardian.
  • Encourage good behavior and appropriate manners.
  • Maintain structure and nurturing environment while encouraging students to participate and enjoy the program.
  • Train, supervise and delegate tasks to other staff members.
  • Perform daily responsibilities and maintain a clean, safe environment.
  • Ability to take direction from supervisors.
  • Enforce rules and policies of the Center of Play Program as well as those of the Community Center and Recreation Department.
  • Supervise and ensure the safety of the children during program.
  • Motivate participants through example.
  • Create and maintain a positive after school environment.
  • Accurately maintain attendance records.
  • Practice proper hygiene, with self and children, to deter the spread of disease (colds, flu, etc).
  • Render first aid in case of minor injuries.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • The ability to speak English clearly and understandably.
  • Perform related duties as required.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education, training, and experience, which likely provides the required knowledge and abilities.

 

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Candidates receiving a conditional job offer must pass a pre-placement fingerprint review. Candidates must possess a current CPR/AED and First Aid certificate and be comfortable calling 911 in an emergency.
