Description

The Silliman Family Aquatic Center Lifeguard Academy is for those seeking employment with the City of Newark. This program is a beginner-level course that covers Lifeguard Training, Water Park Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Swim Lesson Instruction, and center-specific training. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures.

**No certifications or previous experience is required! Candidates must be comfortable in the water. Once you successfully pass your lifeguard certification, you’ll get a $1.00 raise to make $19/hour as a lifeguard.**

  • Candidates will be contacted for an in-person interview.
  • No experience required, training provided. Be paid to train to become a lifeguard! No cost to take certification courses.

Ideal Candidate

REQUIREMENTS:

  • City application (Only accepted via Calopps)
  • At least 15 years old at the time of application submission.
  • Must be comfortable in the water!
  • Must successfully pass a TB test before an appointment, which is at your own cost.
  • Required to submit to a City Fingerprint Background Investigation if age 18+
  • Please note that applicants would be required to download and complete the Pre Offer Release and Candidate Reference Form prior to employment. The form is attached for your convenience.

Benefits

This is a non-benefited, temporary position. Temporary employees will only work up to 1,000 hours per year. 

PART-TIME BENEFITS:

  • Sick Leave: After 90 days from an employee’s hire date, the employee is entitled to 5 days (40 hours) sick leave per fiscal year. Sick hours do not roll over to the next year and therefore must be utilized or forfeited annually.


RETIREMENT:

  • Temporary employees will be required to contribute to a Nationwide Deferred Compensation Plan.


PART-TIME EMPLOYEE STATUS:

  • Employment may be terminated with or without cause or notice, at any time, at the will of the City of Newark, in its sole discretion.
