Description
The City of Newark is seeking energetic, organized, and responsible individuals who enjoy working with school-age children. Recreation Leaders will assist in the implementation and planning of a wide variety of arts and crafts, sports, games, special events, and excursions. Candidates will work either for the Ash Street Summer program at Ash Street Park or Camp Newark at the Silliman Center. Both positions require candidates to work in an outdoor environment.
Interviews will take place through mid May 2024. Zoom interviews available if you are away for school. Apply now, and be hired right on with a start date of May 30th and take the stress away for finding a summer job!

Benefits
This is a non-benefited, temporary position. Temporary employees will only work up to 1,000 hours per year.
PART-TIME BENEFITS:
- Sick Leave: After 90 days from an employee’s hire date, the employee is entitled to 5 days (40 hours) sick leave per fiscal year. Sick hours do not roll over to the next year and therefore must be utilized or forfeited annually.
RETIREMENT:
- Temporary employees will be required to contribute to a Nationwide Deferred Compensation Plan.
PART-TIME EMPLOYEE STATUS:
- Employment may be terminated with or without cause or notice, at any time, at the will of the City of Newark, in its sole discretion.
Special Instructions
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
- City application (Only accepted via Calopps)
- Must be at least 15 years of age
- Prior experience working with school-age children is preferred, but not required.
- Must successfully pass a TB test before an appointment, which is at your own cost.
- Required to submit to a City Fingerprint Background Investigation if over the age of 18.
- Work Permit documentation required
Work Schedule: Since this is a summer-only position, it is expected that applicants can work Monday-Friday with limited vacation time (less than one week) during the below program dates:
Ash Street Summer Program:
Camp Dates TBD (Late June-End of July) Monday- Friday: 10:30 am – 3:30 pm
Camp Newark:
Monday-Friday: June 10 – August 2,7:30 am – 5:15 pm, there will be two shifts to split the day.
