The City of Newark is seeking an experienced water aerobics instructor with the ability to work with all ages, including but not limited to those over the age of 55. The Recreation Instructor will be responsible for the implementation and planning of water aerobics course to be held at the George M Silliman Community Activity Center.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and committed to providing engaging and effective water aerobics classes for participants of all fitness levels.

Under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, this position will

  1. Plan and execute dynamic water aerobics classes that cater to the diverse needs and fitness levels of participants.
  2. Motivate and inspire participants to achieve their fitness goals while creating a positive and inclusive class environment.
  3. Demonstrate proper techniques and modifications for exercises to accommodate participants with varying abilities.
  4. Ensure the cleanliness and safety of the aquatic facility, including checking equipment and reporting any maintenance issues.

*This position is required to work a varied schedule, including weekends and holidays, and may include early mornings and evenings as needed for coverage.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • City application (Only accepted via Calopps)
  • At least 18 years old at the time of application submission.
  • Equivalent to a high school diploma, G.E.D., or California High School Proficiency Examination
  • Must successfully pass a TB test before an appointment, which is at your own cost.
  • Required to submit to a City Fingerprint Background Investigation
  • Knowledge of recreational computer system desirable
  • Must be Available for a variety of shifts and times to meet program needs including weekends.

Benefits

This is a non-benefited, part-time, seasonal, temporary position. Temporary employees will only work  up to 1,000 hours per year.

PART-TIME BENEFITS:

  • Sick Leave: After 90 days from an employee’s hire date, the employee is entitled to 5 days (40 hours) sick leave per fiscal year. Sick hours do not roll over to the next year and therefore must be utilized or forfeited annually.


RETIREMENT:

  • Temporary employees will be required to contribute to a Nationwide Deferred Compensation Plan.


TEMPORARY EMPLOYEE STATUS:

  • Employment may be terminated with or without cause or notice, at any time, at the will of the City of Newark, in its sole discretion.
