Description

Under general supervision, lead, perform lifeguard duties in enforcing City public swimming pool rules and monitoring pool patron conduct; perform emergency rescue and lifesaving techniques. To provide instruction in all levels of American Red Cross swimming certification and other aquatics programs.

 

The City of Union City's Community and Recreation Services is seeking staff for the following roles:

  • Lifeguard (Recreation Leader) - $17.14 - $20.84/hourly
    • Under general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, Senior Lifeguard or Pool Manager, the Lifeguard performs swim instructor duties in teaching swimming and water safety courses, enforcing City public swimming pool rules and monitoring pool patron conduct.  Lifeguards must have knowledge and be physically able to perform emergency rescue and lifesaving techniques. Must be able to provide instruction in all levels of American Red Cross swimming certification and other aquatics programs.

 

  • Senior Lifeguard (Senior Recreation Leader) - $18.24 - $22.22/hourly
    • Under general supervision from the Recreation Coordinator or Pool Manager, must be able to perform all duties as a Lifeguard and know operational rules and protocols of Dan Oden Swim Complex. Must have basic customer service practices and knowledge of all current safety standards and information related to aquatics. Must assist in teaching swimming lessons and lifeguarding.

 

  • Pool Manager (CRS Program Manager) - $19.93 -$24.22/hourly
    • Under general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, able to perform all duties and responsibilities of a Lifeguard and Senior Lifeguard, assist in staff meetings and lifeguard trainings, direct contact for participants to explain pool rules, policies, and procedures. Pool Manager assists in implementing and scheduling staff, program, and services.

Ideal Candidate

1. Lifeguard (Recreation Leader) - $17.14 - $20.84/hourly

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Must be 15.5 years of age.
  • Current certification in American Red Cross CPR or the Professional Rescuer with AED; L First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (California Title 22) within one year of employment; Water Safety Instructor (WSI) is desirable. 

 

2. Senior Lifeguard (Senior Recreation Leader) - $18.24 - $22.22/hourly

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 17 years of age.
  • One (1) season of experience as a lifeguard or swim instructor & Leadership experience is preferred.
  • Must possess a current Water Safety Instructor’s certificate or hold equivalent experience (1 year of teaching swim lessons).
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification by first day of employment.

 

3. Pool Manager (CRS Program Manager) - $19.93 -$24.22/hourly

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Two years of aquatic experience and leadership preferred.
  • Current Red Cross Certifications in: Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Training, Community First Aid and Safety, CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPR/FPR).
  • Candidates are encouraged to possess one of the following as highly desirable certification: LGI - Lifeguard Instructor certification in any American Red Cross course, EMT level certification or Emergency Response Course completion.
