Description

Do you want to work with an amazing team of dedicated professionals who work every day to enhance the quality of life for the residents of San Carlos by providing recreational opportunities for all?  Come join our Parks and Recreation Department team as a Special Events Recreation Coordinator, make a difference in the community and have fun while doing it!

 

The Special Events division is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and implementing recreation programs and community events, requiring extensive face-to-face interaction with the public.

 

As our next Recreation Coordinator in the Special Events division, you will have the opportunity to be responsible for the following objectives:

  • Develop plans for the delivery of recreation programs and community events to the public in accordance with the objectives set by the Recreation Supervisor or the Parks and Recreation Director. 
  • Understand recreation program and community event objectives set by the Recreation Supervisor or the Parks and Recreation Director and consistently translate these objectives into meaningful service activities.
  • Exhibit effective leadership and instruction skills in recreation programs and community events for which he/she/they are responsible. Effectively communicate these skills and techniques to participants and staff members.
  • Maintain, enhance and provide content for social media pages on Facebook, Instagram, Nextdoor, City website and other social media channels, in partnership with City Communications Coordinator.
  • Plan logistics for community events, including communicating with committee staff members, community volunteers, vendors, artists and performers; ordering and organizing supplies and attending planning meetings and discussions.
  • Implement Community Events including greeting the public and answering questions; helping with set-up and clean-up; and supporting vendors, partners, volunteers, artists and performers by addressing equipment, technical, and other needs.
  • Perform a wide variety of tasks such as writing program descriptions, proofreading/editing marketing content, taking photos or selecting imagery to be used in marketing campaigns.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of recreation programs and community events provided to the public. Solicits participant input to gauge participant reaction to program quality.
  • Supervise volunteers and other part-time staff members as assigned. Objectively and constructively evaluates their performance, promptly apprising them of how well they are performing and/or in what specific areas they should seek improvement.
  • Interviews and selects part-time staff and contractual partners as needed for recreation programs and community events.
  • Assists in the preparation and oversight of the community events budget, summarizing results at program end.

Ideal Candidate

 

What type of experience and education do you need to be a successful Recreation Coordinator?

 

A typical qualifying background would be one (1) year of professional experience in the field of Parks and Recreation and a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, with major course work in recreation or a related field.

Salary Range: $7,052.66 - $8,572.64 per month
