Description

San Mateo County Health is excited to be able to offer a full-time, benefited, unique job opportunity to well-qualified individuals for the position of Supervising Nurse Practitioner (Supervising NP) Forensic Medical Unit, as part of San Mateo Medical Center's Keller Center.

 

The Keller Center for Family Violence Intervention is a unique outpatient medical unit affiliated with San Mateo Medical Center Emergency Department. We perform forensic medical exams on victims of assault and abuse and work in a collaborative multidisciplinary team that includes law enforcement, the District Attorney’s office, Child Protective Services, Aging and Adult Services, and several community agencies. We also provide education and serve as a resource for other community hospitals and clinics.

 

The Supervising Nurse Practitioner will collaborate with the Medical Director of Specialty Services and Deputy Director of Ambulatory Nursing in planning, organizing and directing the activities and staff of the Keller Center along with developing standards of practice for forensic exams and reporting. This classification is distinguished from the Nurse Practitioner Series for having full administrative supervisory responsibility over other Nurse Practitioners. The selected individual will spend up to 30% of time in direct patient care at SMMC, which includes performing forensic medical exams for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, elder abuse and child abuse. Testifying in court will be part of the job responsibilities.

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:

  • At least two years of forensic examination training and experience
  • Trauma Informed Care training and experience
  • Experience bringing diverse viewpoints and stakeholders together successfully to accomplish goals and commands the trust and respect of others
  • Interest in team-based care and creating a positive patient experience, and has demonstrated innovation and initiative in realizing that vision
  • Has overseen and led complex projects and coordinated interdisciplinary teams
  • Has at least two years of experience in supervising and mentoring others
  • At least three years of experience as a Practitioner, and a minimum of six months of lead or supervisory experience overseeing clinical care

 

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification:

  • Possession of a California license as a Registered Nurse.
  • Possession of a California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) Nurse Practitioner Certification.
  • Possession of a California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) Furnishing Number.
  • Possession of a DEA Number.

Education and Experience:

  • Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is three years of practice within a specialty area or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
