The City of Thousand Oaks is recruiting for a Library Assistant in the Circulation Division.  The Library Assistant will perform a wide range of duties in support of the operations, services, and programs of the Thousand Oaks Library and Newbury Park Library. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform circulation activities such as checking in/out materials, registering patrons, resolving minor collection issues, provide basic reference services, and customer service (in person, over the telephone, and online via e-mail or text).
  • Coordinate work schedules for Library Pages; track hours and approve timesheets. Supervise and train Library Pages as needed.
  • Set up and take down meeting room equipment in support of library events; train new staff on set up and take down procedures.
  • Assist with general operation of technology and media equipment; respond to and troubleshoot equipment support requests.
  • Assist with documentation for performance reviews and performance issues.
  • Assist with additional projects or tasks as needed.

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Ability to successfully resolve difficult situations involving patrons and other members of the public.
  • Ability to multi-task in a busy environment and quickly adapt to changing priorities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and use new software quickly.
  • Experience with library system software such as Sierra or Polaris.
  • Equivalent to a high school diploma, supplemented by specialized or college level course work in library science or related field.
  • 2+ years of responsible clerical and routine technical experience in a library comparable to a Library Aide classification.
  • A valid class C California’s driver’s license.

The position requires working night and weekend shifts at both the Thousand Oaks and the Newbury Park Libraries.
