The Finance Department is seeking a customer-focused, accountable, highly motivated, and results-oriented Custodian in its Facilities division. The successful candidate will perform work at various City-owned or managed facilities.

 

Primary responsibilities:

  • Set up and remove tables, chairs, and equipment for special events, meetings, and activities
  • Drive City vehicle to deliver mail, library books, janitorial supplies, household hazardous waste, and other items as needed
  • Perform general custodial duties such as cleaning and maintaining buildings, offices, and restrooms
  • Clean floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and/or vacuuming
  • Perform minor general building maintenance work using hand tools
  • Clean lighting fixtures and replace light bulbs in standard commercial fixtures

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Previous custodial experience
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) to keep basic records of work performed, communication, and scheduling
  • Knowledge of computer software for initiating, documenting, and completing work orders
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 100 pounds
  • Ability to safely use 8 – 12 foot ladder to replace light bulbs, and perform basic building maintenance and cleaning
  • Ability to work very effectively and collaboratively with many people inside and outside the City organization
  • A valid Class C California driver’s license

 

Requirements

  • Sufficient physical ability to perform the full range of custodial duties
  • Sit, stand, walk on level and slippery surfaces, reach, twist, turn, kneel, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, grasp, and make repetitive hand movements (for an extended amount of time)
  • Carry and push tools, equipment, and supplies
  • Climb ladders, use power tools and noise-producing tools
  • Use equipment daily with the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
