Description
This is the entry-level classification in the Maintenance Worker series. Assigned duties in this classification are routine tasks requiring no experience or limited experience. Employees at this level perform a limited range of duties under immediate supervision, in accordance with established guidelines and procedures, and are not expected to perform with the same independence of supervision and judgment on matters related to Town guidelines and procedures as are Level II/III.
Employees at this level receive immediate supervision from a manager designated by the City Manager and functional supervision from higher level Maintenance Workers. Incumbents may provide limited direction to less experienced employees in this classification or to seasonal workers.
Ideal Candidate
Knowledge of:
- Basic skills in landscape maintenance, carpentry and plumbing, mechanics.
- Tools and equipment used in public works maintenance and construction.
- Safe work practices.
Ability To:
- Ability to perform essential physical functions with or without accommodation. These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Intermittently sit while driving, operating equipment, or completing forms/work papers; stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist and reach while inspecting or repairing, digging or clearing, and using various tools and equipment; perform simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; distinguish colors used in marking utility facilities, and lift or carry weight of 100 pounds or less.
