Description

The City of Pacifica is establishing an eligibility list to fill two existing openings. PLEASE APPLY IMMEDIATELY!

MAINTENANCE WORKER I: Under general supervision, this individual performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair of City streets, sanitary sewers and storm drains, parks and recreationally landscaped areas, and other type of public works projects.

MAINTENANCE WORKER II: Under direction, individual supervises a small crew and participates in the maintenance and repair of City streets, sanitary sewers and storm drains, parks and recreationally landscaped areas, and other related public works projects.

Ideal Candidate

MAINTENANCE WORKER I--ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS: Candidate must possess a valid California driver's license and be able to drive; must have a knowledge of common tools, materials and practices used in construction, gardening and maintenance work; must be able to operate trucks, motorized equipment and hand tools; mechanical aptitude; ability to follow written and oral instructions; physical strength, agility, endurance and the ability to do heavy lifting; ability to perform work that is labor intensive, where there is considerable bending and stooping required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Pours and finishes concrete; operates sewer rodding and cleaning equipment; cleans out catch-basins and other storm-related preventative maintenance; removes litter from parks and facilities; operates compressors and pneumatic tools; repairs irrigation systems, tools, recreation and maintenance equipment; drives a truck, tractor and other light motorized construction equipment; plants, waters, mows and maintains landscaped areas; tamps and rakes asphalt and performs other related street construction and matenance; repairs and replaces sewer and storm drainage pipe; does basic carpentry, painting, plumbing and pipe-fitting work; does street traffic control, sign painting; use of herbicides. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of semi-skilled construction, groundskeeping or maintenance experience.

MAINTENANCE WORKER II--ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS Ability to drive and possess a valid California driver's license; knowledge of common tools, materials and practices used in construction, gardening and maintenance work; ability to operate trucks, motorized equipment and hand tools; mechanical aptitude; ability to follow written and oral instructions; physical strength; agility, endurance, and the ability to do heavy lifting; ability to perform work that is labor intensive where considerable bending and stooping is required; ability to lay out and supervise work of a small crew. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: Supervise a small crew and participate in the construction, maintenance and repair of streets, curbs, gutters, sewers, storm drains, catch basins, barricades, sidewalks, parks and landscaped areas, and recreational equipment and facilitites; operate and perform minor repairs/adjustments to heavy power-driven equipment; construct forms for and do cement work; do occasional brick work and building construction and maintenance work; build retaining walls; supervise and perform slide control planting, creek bed clean out, landscaping and maintenance, including irrigation; use of herbicides. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and three years of progressively responsible public works construction, gardening and maintenance work; ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled construction, gardening and repair tasks, ability to operate heavy motorized equipment and power tools; ability to lay out and supervise work; ability to read landscape, sprinkler and play equipment plans; ability to maintain time and material records.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT FOR MAINTENANCE WORKER I/II Ability to drive and possess a valid Class "C" California driver's license. Maintenance Worker II will be required to qualify for and obtain a Class "A" or "B" driver's license and be subject to random drug and alcohol testing under Department of Transportation regulations.

Benefits

The City's comprehensive benefits package includes:

Holidays: Thirteen (13) days per year.

Vacation: From 11 to 27 days per year, depending on length of service.

Sick leave: Accrual is one day per month, with no limit on accrual.

Retirement: The City contracts with CalPERS to provide a retirement plan that utilizes the formula of 2.5% @ 55 for "Classic members" or 2% @ 62 for "PEPRA members." Classic Members contribute 8% employee contribution plus 2.5% employer cost share for a total contribution of 10.5%.  PEPRA members pay 6.75% employee contribution plus 2.5% employer cost share for a total contribution of 9.25%.    

Insurance:  The City provides its employees with a medical  insurance allowance that allows employees to purchase medical insurance through either Teamsters Union #856 Health and Welfare or CalPERS medical benefits plan. Some plans require employee contributions.   Employees with proof of qualifying health insurance coverage through another group health plan may qualify for a "Health In-Lieu Payment" when declining city coverage.

The City contributes toward a dental insurance plan and vision plan for employee and all eligible dependents.

The City pays premiums for:

  • Life insurance premium in the amount of $30,000.
  • Long term disability insurance (to begin sixty days after onset of non-work-related illness or injury).

Deferred Compensation Plan: Employees may participate in a pre-tax retirement savings plan.

Union Membership: This position is represented by Teamster Local #856 -Miscellaneous, and union membership is optional. Please refer to MOU for further benefit information.

Monthly salary for Maintenance Worker I: $5,523 - $6,666

Monthly salary for Maintenance Worker II: $5,885 - $7,009
