Description

The Department of Public Works is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects for a wide variety of City facilities and infrastructure, maintaining City facilities and fleet assets, facilitating and regulating development activities, and providing animal care and services. Salary range for this classification is $ 123,658.08 - $150,368.40 . This salary range includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates' qualifications and experience.

The Department of Public Works is recruiting to fill a Senior Systems Applications Programmer (Sr. SAP) position to develop technology solutions , which will maximize the delivery of City products and services.

The focus of this Sr. SAP position is to actively engage in creating and maintaining technical solutions that enhance data processes and system efficiency. This role is entirely focused on individual contribution in developing solutions, resolving technical challenges , and collaborating across teams to support the Department and c itywide operations, ensuring seamless system integration across applications .

Key responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Manage enterprise-scale databases, developing complex queries for data analysis, integration, and reporting.
  • Master Smartsheet, including its advanced features, to build complex workflows, reports, and dashboards.
  • Provide training and support to various teams on utilizing Smartsheet effectively.
  • Develop/ maintain reports and dashboards, using different business intelligence reporting and analytics software.
  • Support on-premise s web applications built with Node.js and Angular.

This position requires a candidate who is actively involved in daily technical tasks and direct problem solving. An ideal candidate will have the following key qualifications:

 

  • Extensive experience in scripting languages for data analytics and process automation, such as SQL, Python, or JavaScript. U nderstanding of RESTful API design, development, and consumption, with knowledge of HTTP protocols, authentication, and data formats (JSON, XML).
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle or MS SQL Server, with experience in design, complex queries.
  • Experience with Smartsheet or ability to quickly learn and master Smartsheet with some training .
  • Skilled in utilizing data reporting tools such as Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, or SAP Crystal Reports to create interactive dashboards and design advanced visualizations.

Education: A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, Computer Technology, or a closely related field.

Experience: Three years of increasingly progressive experience in computer systems applications programming.

Acceptable Substitutions: Additional years of directly related work experience may be substituted for up to a maximum of two years of the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Communication: Communicates and listens effectively and responds in an timely, effective, positive and respectful manner; written reports and correspondence are accurate, complete, current; well-organized, legible, concise, neat, and in proper grammatical form responds to statements and comments of others in a way that reflects understanding of the content and the accompanying emotion; asks clarifying questions to assure understanding of what the speaker intended, ensures consistent communication takes place within area of responsibility
