Description

The County of San Mateo is actively recruiting highly qualified candidates for the role of Forensic Mental Health Psychiatric Social Worker I/II - Marriage & Family Therapist I/II. We currently have four vacancies at the Maguire and Maple Street Correctional Facilities. Fluency in Spanish is preferred.

 

Correctional Health Services (CHS) therapists provide clinical mental health services utilizing Trauma Informed Care to inmates with mental illness, serious mental illness, or substance use disorders and/or co-occurring disorders of mental illness, serious mental illness, and chemical dependency. They also provide case management services and discharge planning by interviewing inmate patients to assess mental health needs and formulate treatment plans. They function as a team member in a multi-disciplinary work setting where they collaborate with Sheriff's Office staff to manage inmate patients' daily activities. Positions require some weekend hours.

The Ideal Candidate will possess

  • A current license as either a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Marriage and Family Therapist.
  • Solid clinical treatment, assessment, and diagnostic skills.
  • Knowledge of principles, techniques and trends in counseling, psychotherapy, clinical case management, crisis management and various treatment modalities as they pertain to the justice involved adult population.
  • Experience providing treatment for adults with serious mental illness.
  • Experience delivering services to adult incarcerated persons who have co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Excellent documentation skills: progress notes, assessments, and treatment planning, etc.
  • Demonstrated expertise, skill and interest in working with a broad range of clients of diverse cultures and backgrounds, such as Latino, Pacific Islander, African American, and LGBTQ, and an ability to provide culturally appropriate and proficient services.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with families, co-workers, other professionals, the Sheriff’s office, collaborative partners and the public.
  • Extensive knowledge of available community resources within the County of San Mateo and its neighboring counties.
  • Experience using electronic health/medical record systems (e.g. AVATAR, SOARIAN, Epic).
  • Fluency in any of the threshold languages: Spanish, Tagalog, Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin) or Russian and experience providing clinical services using bilingual skills.
  • Experience working in a correctional facility and/or experience working with Law enforcement.
  • Experience providing case management services for an inmate population.
  • Demonstrated ability in providing clinical mental health services to an adult population with serious mental illness and/or co-occurring disorders of mental illness, serious mental illness, and substance use disorders.
