Description

The County of San Mateo is currently seeking highly qualified applicants for the position of Workers' Compensation Manager.

Under general direction, the Workers' Compensation Manager will collaborate with all County employees, their managers, health care providers, the third-party claims administrator, and contractors, as well as the County Attorney's Office and other Human Resources staff to ensure fair, consistent, and timely handling of workers' compensation claims.

In addition, the Workers' Compensation Manager will research, investigate, and analyze workers' compensation and disability claims. The Workers' Compensation Manager will also review, improve, and develop policy and procedures, case summaries, statistical and narrative reports, and training manuals and will serve as the liaison to employees, their managers, and the third-party claims administrator on matters pertaining to workers' compensation, temporary work arrangements, return to work, interactive processes, agreements, and other matters related to industrial injuries and related disabilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is at least two years of experience (five years preferred) managing workers’ compensation claims including evaluation of injuries, coordination of benefits, placement of employees in alternate employment, and fraud management.

  • Describe your experiences and responsibilities managing workers' compensation claims and programs involving employees with work-related injuries.
  • Describe your experience developing and facilitating trainings, including the topics on which you have presented, who your target audiences were, and the number of people who participated in your trainings?

The selection process will consist of an application screening based on the candidates’ experience and responses to the supplemental questions. Candidates who pass the application screening will be invited to a panel interview.
