Description

 

The Big Lift, a collective impact initiative that seeks to increase kindergarten readiness and improve third grade reading proficiency in San Mateo County, is recruiting to fill one Intern Fellow II vacancy.
 
The County of San Mateo’s Human Services Agency serves as the initiatives “Backbone Agency”. The Intern Fellow II position will support the evolving/increasing role of the Backbone Agency including but not limited to supporting the implementation, administration, facilitation of three on-going advisory councils and two working groups as well as the planning and facilitation of two annual Collective Impact Convenings and two annual Knowledge Network Convenings.

 

Specifics of assignment is dependent upon the department or division assigned to and level of internship. Some example duties include:

  • Perform a wide variety of administrative, operational, and technical assignments to assist departments or divisions and to receive on-the-job exposure.
  • Research, write, and present reports and recommendations on a variety of topics.
  • Participate in conducting studies and analyses involving assigned programs and functions concerning policies, practices, procedures, financial resources, facilities, proposals, staffing, new programs and projects, effectiveness of programs, and planning.
  • Collect, compile, describe, organize, analyze, interpret, and present data and information related to area and issues under study.
  • Perform a variety of clerical or technical tasks in support of department assigned to: including answering phones and assisting the public, proofreading, filing, collating materials, and maintaining a variety of records.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge of:

  • Research and report preparation methods and procedures.
  • Modern office procedures, methods, and computer software and hardware
  • Principles of mathematics and statistics
  • English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation

Skill/Ability to:

  • Learn basic principles of local government management and public administration
  • Interpret the policies and procedures of the assigned department
  • Learn and understand the organization and operation of the assigned department or division
  • Research, analyze, and evaluate programs, policies, and procedures
  • Prepare clear and concise reports
  • Proofread and detect errors in typing, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Independently prepare correspondence as requested
  • Plan and organize work to meet schedules and deadlines
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Experience collecting, compiling, describing, organizing, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data and information related to areas and issues under study. Previous experience can be gained through community work, in educational settings, or through professional experience.
  • Experience researching, writing, and presenting reports and recommendations on a variety of topics either in an educational or professional setting. Previous experience can be gained through community work, in educational settings, or through professional experience.
