Description

We invite applications for the position of:

Senior Lifeguard/Swim Instructor

$21.32 per hour

$22.40 per hour with WSI

Open until filled.

The City of San Mateo Parks and Recreation Department is looking responsible, enthusiastic, and energetic individuals to join our Aquatics Section!

Qualifications:

Prerequisites: Red Cross Lifesaving Certificate that includes CPR.  Also, must be at least 18 years old with 2 years lifeguard experience.  WSI certifications encouraged.

Senior Lifeguard Job Responsibilities:

  • The primary responsibility of a senior lifeguard is to protect lives by using their skills to prevent injury among patrons.  This duty does not only include rescuing drowning victims or administering CPR and first aid.  Being alert and proactive also helps to prevent dangerous situations from ever occurring in the first place.
  • Oversees lifeguards during swim lessons and rec swim.
  • Helps to process registration and create class lists for each session.
  • Assists with Lifeguard and Swim Instructor evaluations.
  • Open and close the facilities.
  • Take and record pool chemical reading and monitor chemical use.
  • Help create and conduct Aquatics trainings.
  • May be responsible for instructing swim lesson participants in a variety of swim levels if needed.
  • Submits and reviews completed report cards, skills sheets, and attendance information on time.   

Schedule:

                Interviews:                         Starting in April

                In-Service Training:           June 8 (new hires only), June 10 – June 14              

                Summer Session:             June 15 – August 11

                Weekly In-Service:           Every Friday from June 21 – August 9, 8:30am-12:00pm

                Daily Hours: (scheduled shifts may vary)

                                M-F        9:30am-8:00pm

                                S             9:30am-5:30pm
