The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a dedicated and ambitious Human Resources Intern to join our team for a 3- or 6-month internship! This is a great opportunity for someone interested in pursuing a career in Human Resources and eager to gain hands-on experience in a public sector environment. The internship will be approximately 15-20 hours per week and includes flexible scheduling options to balance other commitments, such as school.
Primary Responsibilities
The HR Intern will provide support to the HR department and assist with the following:
Recruitment – posting job openings, screening applications, and coordinating and preparing materials for interviews
New Hire Onboarding and Orientation – sending offer letters and onboarding packets, collecting information for enrollment, drafting communications
Document Management – maintaining employee records, updating databases and files, and entering data
Digital Transformation – the conversion of physical records and forms to electronic format
HR Analysis – conducting research and analysis on HR-related topics, creating reports and summarizing findings
Talent Development and Training – setting up training initiatives and assignments, assigning courses, managing rosters, updating employee files
Employee Inquiries and Correspondence – Assisting in responding via email, phone, Microsoft Teams, HR help ticket, and in person
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate should possess:
Possess, or pursuing a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Communication Studies, Human Resources, or a related field
Interest in the Human Resources field; completed coursework or projects related to Human Resources is a plus
Inquisitive mindset and curiosity
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information
Proficient in Microsoft Office and a strong acumen for systems and technology
These are part-time hourly positions with a flexible schedule to include working approximately 20 hours per week.
