The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking highly motivated and results-oriented Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II/Trainees for the Water and Wastewater divisions of the Public Works Department.  Applications are currently being accepted to fill two positions at the Municipal Service Center in the Newbury Park area of Thousand Oaks (one each in Water and Wastewater). Dependent upon the candidate's qualifications, the vacancies will be filled at either the Utilities Maintenance Worker Level I, Level II or Trainee.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair duties as it relates to the water and wastewater divisions
  • Perform light and heavy manual labor
  • Inspect and perform maintenance on various pump and lift stations
  • Operate a variety of maintenance and construction equipment

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
  • Experience in utility or public works-related maintenance and construction work
  • The ability to lift, carry and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more
  • Pride in their personal work product; demonstrate initiative, and be safety conscious
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills including excellent customer service skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy with recordkeeping
  • A team player approach and motivation; affinity for new challenges
  • A valid Class C California driver’s license is required

 

Requirements

  • TRAINEE LEVEL:  Ability to obtain and maintain certification through the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) as a Water Distribution Operator Grade D1 within 18 months of employment.  Ability to obtain a valid Class B California driver’s license with tanker endorsement within six months of employment.
  • Level I: Possession of, and ability to maintain, certification through the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) as a Water Distribution Operator Grade D1.  Ability to obtain a valid Class B California driver’s license with tanker endorsement within six months of employment.
  • Level II: Possession of, and ability to maintain, certification through the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) as a Water Distribution Operator Grade D1.  State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) as a Water Distribution Operator Grade D2 is preferred. A valid Class B California driver’s license with tanker endorsement.

Perform after-hours emergency work on an “as needed” basis and on-call duties on a rotating basis.  Must be able to respond to on-call responsibilities at the Municipal Service Center within 30 minutes. 

Work Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
