Environmental Compliance Inspector - Senior/II/I (20604722)

Senior Environmental Compliance Inspector:

• Under the direction of the Water Quality Supervisor and with support from the Analyst, the Senior Inspector will take on a leadership role, overseeing, delegating, and planning the workload for the two Inspectors. The Senior Inspector will perform both fieldwork and more complex office tasks.
• Possess four years of experience in the chemical, bacteriological, and physical analysis of wastewater, surface water, and/or drinking water; with demonstrated knowledge and experience in performing complex environmental inspection and monitoring activities to ensure compliance with regulations
• Lead, organize, and review the work of staff effectively
• Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
• Have an education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, with supplemental coursework in biology, environmental science, chemistry, or a related field; a Bachelor’s degree in an Earth Science-related field is preferred
• CWEA Environmental Compliance Inspector Grade 1 certification (Grade 2 preferred); Grade 2 certification required within one year of employment
• State of California Water Distribution Operator Grade 1 certification within one year of employment (Grade 2 preferred)
• CWEA Laboratory Analyst Grade 1 certification (highly desirable)

Environmental Compliance Inspector II:

• Two years of experience in the chemical, bacteriological, and physical analysis of wastewater and/or drinking water, including proficiency in the inspection and sampling of industrial and commercial facilities for compliance with pretreatment and stormwater quality regulations
• Perform job duties independently, train Inspector I, and assist Sr. Inspector with more complex tasks 
• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by college-level coursework in biology, environmental science, chemistry, or a related field; Bachelor’s degree in an Earth Science related field preferred
• CWEA Grade 1 Environmental Compliance Inspector Certificate
• Ability to obtain a State Water Distribution Operator Grade 1 Certificate within one year of employment is highly desirable

Environmental Compliance Inspector I:

• Have some prior experience in sampling, testing, and inspection related to drinking water quality, stormwater quality, or pretreatment programs is preferred
• Perform job duties under the oversight and guidance of the Senior Inspector and Inspector II
• Possess education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by college-level coursework in biology, environmental science, chemistry, or a related field; a Bachelor’s degree in an Earth Science-related field is preferred
• Ability to obtain CWEA Grade 1 Environmental Compliance Inspector certification within one year of employment
• Ability to obtain State Water Distribution Operator Grade 1 certification within one year of employment is highly desirable

An equivalent combination of education and training may be considered in lieu of the noted qualifications.

Location

The daily starting office location is at the City’s Hill Canyon Treatment Plant at 9600 Santa Rosa Road, Camarillo, CA, and all fieldwork is conducted throughout the City of Thousand Oaks.

Schedule

Monday through Thursday, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm with one half-hour lunch (4/10 schedule)

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

Physical: Sufficient physical ability to work in an office setting; sit, stand, walk, reach, twist, turn, kneel, bend, squat, and/or stoop for prolonged periods of time; perform duties requiring grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination; climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment; operate office equipment; lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more.

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents and to operate office equipment.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

Environment: Standard office setting. Employees also required to work outside, with exposure to inclement weather conditions, elevated noise levels, and heavy vehicle traffic conditions; frequent interaction with the public, business community, City staff and other organizations; occasionally required to interact with dissatisfied individuals.
