Description

The Engineering Group Manager – Facilities will oversee a diverse and talented team responsible for managing the planning, design, and construction of capital projects at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA). This individual will lead the delivery of high-impact projects ranging from transit infrastructure upgrades to the improvement and rehabilitation of maintenance yards and other critical facilities. The role includes overseeing staff, consultants, and stakeholders in the successful execution of these projects, while also ensuring compliance with VTA’s overall objectives and community needs.

Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate:

VTA is seeking a strategic, results-driven leader with demonstrated experience managing transit and facility capital programs. The ideal candidate should have:

  • Leadership Experience: A proven track record of leading teams, with experience managing long-term infrastructure projects, particularly in operations and maintenance for transit or facility improvement projects.
  • Master Planning Expertise: Hands-on experience in managing the planning and execution of complex facility capital projects, including state of good repair work.
  • Licensure: A professional engineering license in California is strongly preferred.
  • Team Management: Experience managing diverse teams, with the ability to foster collaboration and develop team members’ skills. Experience managing people and programs in facilities infrastructure is critical.
  • Project Continuity: The ideal candidate will have stable, long-term experience managing people and programs, without frequent job changes or gaps in professional continuity.
  • Technical Expertise: Working knowledge of facility design, construction, and rehabilitation for transit systems. Knowledge of operations and maintenance for bus and light rail infrastructure is preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Superior written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting complex projects to stakeholders, including Board members.
