Description

Overview:
The Accountant I/II is responsible for encumbering and processing payments for agreements and multi- year construction contracts that are critical to the operation of Valley Water (District).
 
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Reviewing purchase orders, construction contracts, and agreements to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
• Ensuring that vendor invoices are paid accurately, charges are consistent with the contract terms, retentions are properly tracked and accounted for, and that deliverables are received prior to initiating payments.
• Investigating and responding to inquiries from customers and vendors.
• Providing technical assistance and training to co-workers.
• Preparing regular journal entries, accruals, and financial schedules.
• Responding to audit inquiries and assisting in the year-end close process.

Ideal Experience:

  • Accountant I: One (1) year of professional accounting experience in processing timely payments for contracts and agreements.
  • Accountant II: Four(4) years of professional accounting experience in processing timely payments for contracts and agreements.
Ideal Skills and Abilities (for both Accountant I/II Levels)
  • Ability to proficiently use Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and web-based programs or equivalent.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service through all levels of the organization as well as the vendors.
Ideal Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, contract encumbrances and retentions, and processing of vendor invoices.
  • Knowledge of automated financial systems such as Infor, PeopleSoft, SAP or equivalent.
Ideal Training and Education:
Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or a related field.
Or
Directly related experience may be substituted for the college requirement on the basis of one and one-half years of experience for one year of education to a maximum of four years.

 

Required License or Certificate
