The City of Sunnyvale is currently recruiting for TWO Permit Technician positions to perform a variety of responsible customer service, clerical and technical assistance duties. 

The Community Development Department has one regular Full-Time Permit Technician position to support the Building Safety Team at the City's One-Stop Permit Center. 

The Department of Public Safety has one Regular Part-Time Permit Technician position to support the Fire Prevention & Hazardous Materials Unit and will report to the Civilian Assistant Fire Marshal. 

Under direction of an assigned manager from Building, Planning, or Fire Prevention performs responsible technical work in one or more specialized divisions which involves researching and responding to customer questions regarding department policies and procedures, the receipt of fees, and assisting with processing permit applications; and performs related work as required.

A complete application consists of a City application and responses to the required supplemental questions. The San José Fire Department (SJFD) is seeking to fill multiple Senior Public Safety Dispatcher positions in the Communications Division.

Senior Public Safety Dispatchers (Senior PSDs) are responsible for supervising a team of Public Safety Radio Dispatchers (PSRDs) assigned to a shift in the Communications Center. PSRD is the journey-level class for public safety dispatching within the City of San José wherein incumbents are required to handle the full range of telephone answering and dispatch functions.

Responsibilities of the Senior PSD include, but are not limited to the following:

• Supervising PSRDs, including approving time-off and other scheduling requests in accordance with the established guidelines.
• Assigning PSRDs to work the various dispatch positions within the Communications Center.
• Conducting training sessions and drills to maintain the efficiency and coordination of their assigned team.
• Evaluating the performance of team members and giving frequent feedback to subordinates.
• Preparing written training evaluations and performance appraisals.
• Investigating and responding to resident, department, and allied agency concerns or complaints.
• Coordinating with Chief Officers in the field regarding matters affecting department operations.
• Performing additional support tasks when assigned to an administrative role in the Operations Unit, Training Unit, Quality Improvement Unit, or Systems Support Unit.
• Performing all duties of the PSRD classification.

In addition to the salary, employees in the Senior Public Safety Dispatcher classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay and a (3.75%) Public Safety Radio Dispatcher Certification Pay.

Salary range(s) for this classification is/are:

• $115,356.80 - $140,358.40 (pensionable)
• $125,450.52 - $152,639.76 ( including non-pensionable and certification pay )

The San José Fire Department (SJFD) is seeking to fill two Analyst I/II positions in the Bureau of Administrative Services, Fiscal unit.

User Fee Programs and Revenue Management Analyst I/II (Accounts Receivable):

The Bureau of Administrative Services is seeking an enthusiastic and creative candidate interested in the unique opportunity to coordinate and lead the development of the Fire Department's User Fee Programs. The User Fee Program and Revenue Management Analyst position will have the responsibility of designing, developing, implementing, and monitoring the Fire Department's newly established Ambulance Transport Services fee program. This fast-paced and collaborative position will serve as the primary point-of-contact between various key stakeholders such as the Department's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division staff members, ambulance transport service providers, third-party billing and collection providers, and external federal organizations such as Medicare/Medi-Cal. This position will also support the Department's Revenue Management functions through generating reports for monitoring and forecasting revenue trends throughout the year. This analyst position presents an opportunity to also serve as a key contributor throughout various budgetary processes, program analytics, developing and tracking key performance indicators, and maintain a close collaborative relationship with the City Manager's Budget Office and City Attorney's Office during annual technical updates to the Fire Department's Fees and Charges Schedule, and City Ordinance.

Fiscal Analyst I/II (Accounts Payable):

The Bureau of Administrative Services is seeking a driven innovator looking for an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in supporting the Fire Department's 855 sworn and civilian personnel. This analyst position will have the responsibility of facilitating many critical administrative functions such as serving as the point of contact for all Fire Department travel requests and reimbursements, as well as proving budgetary support to the Bureau of Field Operations and Special Ops Programs. The ideal candidate will bring their creativity in championing efforts to refine and implement an elevated customer experience for the Fire Department through process innovation and streamlining workflows within the Accounts Payable Unit. Additionally, this position will provide oversight to the Accounts Payable team consisting of one Principal Account Clerk and one Senior Account Clerk.

In addition to the salary, employees in the Analyst I/II classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

The City of Dixon is accepting applications to fill one (1) full-time position of Transit Driver/Dispatcher and to establish an eligibility list for future use.  

This position drives a Readi-Ride General Public Paratransit Vehicle (GPPV) on a demand responsive curb-to-curb transit system and assist patrons boarding and leaving the bus, especially the elderly, disabled, and school age children. May also assist in collecting information relating to the operation of the system; receive ride requests and organize the vehicle pick-ups and drop-offs; and, will work closely with the drivers and Transit Supervisor to ensure coordinated efforts.

Deputy Fire Marshal
Salary Range: $6,750.00 to $13,383.33 Monthly
 

This position will report directly to the Fire Marshal. The Deputy Fire Marshal is an advanced level position. Duties include, but are not limited to reading, interpreting, and enforcing all State statutes and regulations under the authority of the State Fire Marshal (SFM), and all standards as adopted by SFM as well as UCDH policies. This position will act as a technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas. This position will regularly lead projects of critical importance to the organization; these projects carry substantial consequences of success or failure. May direct programs with organizational-wide impacts that include formulating strategies and administrating policies, policies, processes, and resources. In this position, the individual will perform detailed inspections of buildings under the authority of the UCDH Fire Marshal’s Office. Provide fire and life safety education to occupants. Analyze hazardous materials and functional use of space during construction plan review and validate post-occupancy use for compliance. This position may serve as State Fire Marshal (SFM) Designated Campus Fire Marshal (DCFM) for the UCDH Hospital and other UCDH medical¬ related facilities. Note, that SFM has the sole authority to approve a candidate as an SFM DCFM.

Additionally, persons in this position are expected to perform plan reviews, construction inspections, and existing building inspections, participate in the Incident Command System, and understand and apply Joint Commission and CMS requirements, NFPA Standards, and California Code of Regulations.

Required Qualifications

• OSFM Fire Inspector 2A- 2D training class series and/or ICC Building Code Certification.
• Must possess a valid California Driver’s License
• Five (5) years of experience in building, fire, or hazardous materials inspections.
• College education/training equivalent to a BS level in Fire Science, Construction, Chemistry, or similar related field.
• Experience working within “Authority Having Jurisdiction” for enforcement of regulations, or someone who has completed an apprenticeship (time/experience) and is fully educated/experienced in construction.

Preferred Qualifications 

• OSFM Certification as a Fire Inspector 2
• ICC Building Code Official Certification
• Hazardous Material Inspection experience.
• Experience in hospital inspections &/or construction.
• Thorough knowledge and skill in one or more of the following fields: Hazardous Materials Inspections, Laboratories, Hospital &/or Construction Inspections.
• Demonstrates excellent working knowledge of the California Health and Safety Code sections under the authority of the Office of the State Fire Marshal, California Code of Regulations Title 24, NFPA, and other standards required for Fire Prevention activities within the state of California.
• The ability to manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources while functioning with a high degree of autonomy.
• Decision-making is based on established procedures and integration/interpretation of relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policy; professional best practices; relevant science methodology, impact on other UCDH programs; and senior management approvals. Decisions may impact other programs, departments, segments of the organization, and/or organization wide.
• Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the job; ability to intermittently analyze work papers, reports, and special projects; identify and interpret technical and numerical information; observe and problem solve operational and technical policies and procedures; determine compliance; identity, interpret, explain, and enforce violations; review and interpret codes and rules; maintain awareness of safety at all times.

Special Requirements

• Typically, this position provides services during normal business hours of operation; however, the individual must be able to work flexible hours that can include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Occasional overtime as required to meet operational needs.

Incumbents are not sworn personnel and are generally in this classification until successful completion of the police academy. Assignment to this classification is temporary. If incumbents do not successfully complete a police academy, they will be terminated.  Incumbents hired after the graduation from the California POST Basic Academy are not sworn personnel and are generally in this classification until they are promoted to Public Safety Officer I.

Public Safety Officer Academy Attendee/Graduate is distinguished from the higher-level Public Safety Officer I in that the latter is a sworn position where incumbents continue training for both police and fire duties. Incumbents must successfully complete the police academy prior to being promoted to the classification of Public Safety Officer I.
