This team is well-versed in the delivery of capital projects in the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority operation and maintenance responsibility. This position is responsible for directing and leading collaboration on master planning, design development (including technical analysis in support of preliminary engineering and final design), construction management and close out, overall program/project management (including scopes, costs, schedules and quality of work), management of staff resources (both VTA and consultant), and coordination with project stakeholders within VTA and the community.

The Department

Special Events Attendants work behind the scenes making all Recreation and Community Services excel! This job entails interacting with the public and vendors participating in recreation and community activities, facilitating arts, crafts, games, and sports; performing participant check-in, reception duties and cash handling duties; assisting with large equipment (stage and booth) set-up, take down and housekeeping; opening and closing facilities. As experience is gained, may provide administrative and onsite program support; assisting with training, leading, scheduling and directing staff; organizing and directing event activities; preparing written and verbal reports and correspondence which may include drafting advertisements and social media posts. About the Position:  The Facilities Maintenance Specialist performs all aspects of facilities maintenance for the Administrative Office Facilities, including building operation, vehicle fleet maintenance, landscaped grounds and parking areas, and various physical systems such as HVAC, plumbing, painting, assembly, construction, electrical, data cabling, and security systems.  This position is also responsible for non-routine repairs and improvements at Midpen Field properties as well as performing preventative maintenance tasks, repairs, and minor improvement projects. The Facilities Maintenance Specialist will support Midpen’s utilization of contractors and act as a point of contact for a wide variety of maintenance and repair tasks. The successful performance of this work will require a working knowledge of a broad range of facility maintenance trades and technical principles, as well as a professional background and the ability to coordinate work with other Midpen departments. The majority of the work will include maintenance and operations of Midpen’s administrative office, but will also include project work on Midpen staff field offices and facilities, district owned and managed residential housing, historic properties, ranch infrastructure, as well as public buildings such as Midpen’s Daniels Nature Center.  For additional information about the position, see the Job Description on the Midpen website.

Work Environment:  This position is part of the Land and Facilities Services Department at the Midpen offices in Los Altos, California and will be required to work onsite Monday through Friday on a 9/80 schedule.  Work will be performed primarily in an office environment and at times at Midpen Field facilities and residential properties located primarily in the field. May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, be called back after hours and on weekends or respond to and performs work in emergency situations as required.  When conducting field assignments, work may include traversing rough, difficult terrain in inclement or hot weather with exposure to poison oak.  Duties will include building and facility work that will require climbing ladders and entering confined spaces.  Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in these types of conditions, as well as in an office environment. Positions in this classification must possess the ability to lift and carry materials and objects weighing up to 60 pounds and must possess the ability to push and pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds, with the use of proper equipment. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

Education and Experience: 

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: 

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by college-level coursework in

facilities management, construction project management or a related field or training in applicable trades

and three (3) years of experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of buildings, structures and/or

related facilities.

Completion of an apprenticeship program or the equivalent training in one or more of the construction

trades is highly desirable.

Licenses & Certifications Required:   Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

The City of San Bruno Public Library is currently recruiting for a part-time, temporary Library Assistant—Homework Center Supervisor. Candidates must be able to commit from September 2024 to June 2025, for 17 hours per week and availability Monday 2-6PM, Tuesday 2-6PM, Wednesday 1-6PM and Thursday 2-6PM (with the exception of Library and San Bruno Park School District holidays). Under the direction of the Library Services Manager, the Library Assistant—Homework Center Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of the Library's after-school Homework Center, including classroom management, homework help, supervising and training volunteers, collaborating with library staff, and maintaining accurate records of homework center attendance. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining a welcoming place for students to do their homework effectively within the larger context of the library, and for planning weekly activities and training/supervising students in the use of the 3-D printer. The homework center is a free, drop-in, after-school program for children in kindergarten through eighth grade.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
• Some college coursework

The City of Lincoln is hiring for a seasonal Maintenance Worker II within the Parks and Facilities Division of the Public Works Department.

The Department is looking for an individual with at least three years of responsible experience performing municipal parks maintenance. Course work and training in maintenance, agronomy, horticulture, forestry, natural resource management, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, janitorial or related field is highly desirable.  A successful candidate will have the ability to obtain a Class B Driver’s License within one year of employment.

Under general supervision, this position performs the full array of duties assigned to classes in the Maintenance Worker series including maintenance, construction and equipment operation work in one or more Public Works divisions; occasionally assists in the training of lower-level Maintenance Workers; and performs other related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Maintenance Worker II is the journey level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Senior Maintenance Worker in that the latter performs more complex assignments and lead responsibilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

The Maintenance Worker II receives general supervision from a Public Works Supervisor. May exercise technical and functional supervision over assigned staff. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Include but are not limited to the following:

• Performs maintenance, repair, construction, equipment operation and installation work in parks and buildings.
• Parks and Buildings: Maintains lawns, shrubs, and trees; assists in spraying of herbicides and pesticides; cuts, sprays and removes weeds; clears brush and debris; assists with planting and maintenance of landscaped areas; installs, maintains, repairs and programs irrigation systems; cleans and maintains parks and city buildings; assists in the performance of minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting and remodeling tasks.
• Fills out reports and work orders; climbs or uses hydraulic aerial devices to top, trim, reshape, strip, treat and remove trees; operates airport fueling vehicles; responds to after-hours call-outs if assigned.
• Demonstrates a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; may provide training to lower level staff; responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is appropriate and resolves public service complaints.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS

The following are a representative sample of the KSA’s necessary to perform essential duties of the position:

Knowledge of: Practices, techniques and materials used in maintenance, construction and repair of streets, buildings, parks and water treatment facilities; knowledge of the City street system; applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations; operating characteristics and safety requirements for operation of trucks, refuse vehicles and other heavy and light equipment; defensive driving; proper lifting procedures; methods and techniques for record keeping; basic principles of mathematics; occupational hazards and standard safety procedures.

Skill to: Safely and effectively operate a variety of maintenance equipment, tools and materials.

Ability to: Perform maintenance, repair and installation of asphalt, signs, concrete, water mains and storm drains; drive and operate trucks and heavy construction equipment; respond to issues and concerns from the community; interpret, explain and apply applicable laws, codes and regulations; operate a variety of construction equipment, vehicles and power and hand tools; perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time; work at substantial heights; respond to after-hours call-outs if assigned; organize, prioritize and follow-up on work assignments; work independently and as part of a team; make sound decisions within established guidelines; analyze a complex issue, and develop and implement an appropriate response; follow written and oral directions; observe safety principles and work in a safe manner; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
