The City of San Bruno Community Services Department is seeking a Recreation Coordinator to coordinate the planning, organizing, coordination, and administration of community recreation programs for age 50-plus adults under the supervision of a Recreation Services Manager.

The successful candidate will be responsible for professional recreation duties, encompassing the planning, organization, coordination, and supervision of programs at the San Bruno Senior Center. We are seeking candidates with substantial experience in recreation programs related to the aging community.

General Programming:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team at the forthcoming state-of-the-art aquatic and recreation facility set to open in Summer 2024. The brand-new 49,360 sq ft facility will feature indoor and outdoor lap pools, a zero-entry wading pool, fitness amenities, a gymnasium, a walking track, and ample space for programming and rentals.

The successful candidate will be responsible for professional recreation duties, encompassing the planning, organization, coordination, and supervision of recreational programs at the facility.  Candidates with experience in fitness, aquatics, and general recreation programs are desired.

Responsibilities of the Recreation Services Coordinator include, but are not limited to:

• Managing and supervising assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources; planning and organizing workloads and staff assignments; trains, motivates and evaluates assigned staff and volunteers; reviews progress and directs and implements changes as needed.
• Assuring that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; performing cost control activities; monitoring revenues and expenditures in assigned area to assure sound fiscal control; preparing annual budget requests; assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities, and time.
• Issuing written and oral instructions; assigning duties and examining work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
• Responding to public inquiries about recreation programs made by telephone, correspondence, or during public meetings.
• Preparing for publication a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, and related communications regarding recreation programs.
• Develop and implement a variety of programs for the aging adult community.
• Provide strong leadership and direction to staff and volunteers.
• Develop a fun, welcoming and inclusive environment for program participants.

Requirements

In addition to graduation from a four-year accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, physical education, social work, gerontology, public administration or another closely related field of study – the candidate will also have two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the development and coordination of programs, services, activities and events are required. Experience in recreation programs with the public is highly desirable.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Streets Division of the SFMTA which oversees Parking and Curb Management is working on the upgrade and replacement of 28,000+ parking meters citywide involving changes in operating procedures and the additional and/or modification of signage. Parking meters are an integral tool used to mitigate traffic congestion, in support of Muni and our Transit First Policy, by managing parking demand. The project requires the support of a Maintenance Machinist to perform duties within the Operations Unit Parking Meter Shop.

Under general direction, the Maintenance Machinist performs preventive, routine and emergency maintenance and repair of a variety of heavy and light equipment, related systems, and components. This involves supporting Operations Unit trouble shooting and servicing specialty  equipment.

Examples of Important and Essential Duties:

• Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools, stationary as well as portable manual machine tools and Computer Numeric Control (CNC) machine tools such as mills, lathes, drills, saws, etc.
• Rebuilds, refinishes, modifies and/or fabricates replacement parts for pumps, generators, cranes, parking meters, transit vehicles/railway coaches and railway cars, fire alarm boxes, compressors, dredges, pipes lines, barges, ferry terminals and their components.
• Maintains and repairs a variety of instruments and mechanical equipment, including valves, castings, and various metal parts.
• Diagnoses, installs, inspects, and tests machinery, parts and equipment.
• Communicates and works with staff, supervisors, and external contacts to identify and resolve problems.
• Reads and interprets schematic drawings, blueprints, and plans.
• Prepares and maintains records and forms documenting work performed.
• Dismantles and dissembles/assembles light and heavy machines including parking meters and/or equipment.
• Manufactures, fabricates, welds parts based on samples and drawings.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Nature of Work:

Involves exposure to adverse physical and working conditions and lifting and/or moving objects weighing in excess of seventy (70) pounds. Requires operating equipment and elevated work platforms with the ability to climb or work at elevted heights. Incumbents will be required to work varying hours and/or shifts, including weekends, evening, and holidays in a 24 hour/7 days-a week operation. May involve traveling in areas not considered desirable and/or safe; may be exposed to hazardous environments. 

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Completion of a recognized four (4) year Machinist's apprenticeship program and two (2) years of fulltime verifiable experience as a journey-level Maintenance Machinist performing duties equivalent to Job Code 7332 Maintenance Machinist (with primary responsibility in maintenance/repair and machine tool operations) OR

   A combination of trade-related training (certificate program or military training program) and fulltime verifiable experience as a journey-level Maintenance Machinist performing duties equivalent to Job Code 7332 Maintenance Machinist (with primary responsibility in maintenance/repair and machine tool operations) totaling six (6) years.

2. Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California driver license.

Notes on experience:

A. Trade-related training refers to programs such as machine tool technology program.

B. Experience solely as a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machinist, Numerical Control (NC) Machinist or Machine Operator (without Manual Maintenance Machinist experience) will not be considered as qualifying.

Substitution:

Completion of a CA Division of Apprenticeship Standards recognized Maintenance Machinist apprenticeship program as evidenced by issuance of a Certificate of Completion of the apprenticeship program under the appropriate authority will substitute for the six (6) years combined work experience.

Desirable Qualifications:

The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify candidates advancing to the interview process and/or to identify job finalist(s) at the end of the selection process when referred for hiring.

• Experience applying shop theory and bench work such as turning, milling both manual and CNC, chipping, sawing, filing, drilling, welding (Metal inert gas (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG), stick and gas welding), soldering, gear cutting, threading, grinding and heavy treatment, and plasma cutting.
• Experience in the maintenance and repair of a variety of equipment including hydraulically, electrically and pneumatically operated machinery; basic composition, characteristics and uses of shop metals and materials and safety practices.

• Experience in using tools and equipment for working on concrete pavement and subbasements.
• Experience with and ability to use computer-aided design(CAD).
• Experience working in diverse teams at diverse communities.

Assistant Transportation Planner

This is the entry-level classification in the professional transportation planning series. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the Associate level, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence.

Associate Transportation Planner

This is the journey-level classification of the transportation planning series, able to perform the full scope of professional transportation planning duties. Positions at this level are distinguished from the Assistant Transportation Planner level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment, initiative, and problem solving. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the Senior Transportation Planner in that the latter is the advanced journey-level class in the series and is responsible for performing more complex planning and project management activities.

Senior Transportation Planner

This is the advanced journey-level classification in the Transportation Planner series responsible for complex transportation planning and project management duties. Incumbents work on tasks that are varied and complex, requiring considerable discretion and independent judgement. Positions at this level conduct the full range of duties as assigned, work independently, and exercise judgment, initiative, and problem solving. Job Description

Under the supervision of the Piledriver Supervisor I, the Pile Worker performs a variety of manual work in the repair and construction of piers, wharves, and related substructures by removing and replacing decayed and/or damaged caps, stringers, and decking; pulling, driving, framing, and bolting piles; burning old bolts; and repairing docks. Inspects piling underwater, wraps damaged piles and identifies severely damaged piles for replacement. Performs underwater burning, welding, and rigging for underwater projects.

For positions that require diving ability, incumbent must hold a current commercial diving certification. Diving ability includes performing underwater diving work including the ability to inspect underwater piles, wrap damaged piles, cut piles, prep and grout concrete piles, install anodes, designate severely damaged piles for replacement, perform underwater burning, welding, and rigging and familiarity with CAL OSHA regulations related to diving.

The essential duties of the 9330 Pile Worker include but are not limited to:

• Placing, driving, and capping piles.
• Placing stringers, sawing, and laying decking.
• Tearing out decayed and damaged decking, stringers, caps, and pilings.
•  Boring holes and framing timbers.
• Assisting in moving and rigging the piledriver and/or truck crane.
• Assisting in moving and rigging the piledriver by setting up, tearing down, and resetting rigging.
• Making minor repairs to piledriver machinery and equipment.
• Fabricating rigging, both wire rope or synthetic line such as block and tackles, slings, chokers, pennants, and related gear.
• Building, maintaining and using floats, pontoons, or work boats in the maintenance and repair of piers and docks.
• Building and maintaining floats, pontoons, workboats, and rafts.
• Loading and/or unloading piles, timbers, or debris to or from trucks or barges.
• Assisting the dive crew by sending down equipment and tools.
• Using international code of hand signals to signal instructions to the Piledriver Engine Operator.
• Using and maintaining pneumatic and portable gas tools.
• Operating forklifts, vehicles, and boats
• Using and maintaining a wide variety of pneumatic and portable gas tools such as drills, sanders, wrenches, saws, forklifts, torches, boring machines, and other related tools.

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Some positions require diving ability - for positions that perform underwater diving, candidates are required to pass a medical qualification examination to dive and for the use of a respirator. Sustained physical effort, frequently underwater and under adverse weather conditions such as in rain, rough water, cold temperatures (water and air) and confined spaces; moving large heavy timbers; operating a skiff; and driving Port vehicles; required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and support dive gear and apparatus from 100 to 150 pounds.  

Qualifications

Experience

Four (4) years of verifiable journey-level experience as a pile worker.

For diving positions only: One (1) year of commercial construction diver experience in addition to the experience described above for a total of five (5) years of experience.

License and Certification

Possession of a valid California driver’s license (to be presented at time of appointment). Insurability under the Port’s automobile liability insurance must be maintained throughout employment.

For diving positions only: Possession of a current certification as a commercial diver by an Association of Commercial Diving Educators (ACDE) accredited dive school.

Desirable Qualifications (Ideal Candidate)

The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience with wood, steel and concrete pier construction and marine pile driving operations.
• Experience working on a barge crane conducting pile driving operations.
• Experience maintaining floating assets and marina floats.
• Experience operating boats
• Ability to identify and correct safety hazards.
• Good oral communication skills.

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Card

This position requires that the incumbent be qualified for unescorted access to the Port’s Maritime Transportation System (MTS).  An application for a TWIC card may be submitted after employment has commenced.  Employment in this position requires that the incumbent undergo a criminal history check, immigration check and terrorist threat assessment, including FBI fingerprints, in order to determine eligibility for security clearance.  

The incumbent must submit an application for, successfully acquire and maintain a TWIC card. Per Civil Service Rule 110.9.1, every applicant must possess and maintain the qualifications required by law and by the announcement for this examination. DEFINITION

Under the supervision of the Plant and Equipment Maintenance Manager, does skilled mechanical work in repairing and installing equipment in the Water and Wastewater systems; and performs other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Installs, replaces and repairs pumps, motors, generators, and auxiliary equipment; levels and aligns equipment to prevent vibration; installs and connects instruments, gauges, tubing, pipes, instrument panels, switches and valves; dismantles pumps, compressors, motors and generators for inspection of worn or broken parts and makes appropriate adjustments, replacements and repairs; keeps written and computerized records of repairs and maintenance services performed; furnishes Plant and Equipment Maintenance Manager with information for parts and inventory control; assists operators and maintenance personnel in the general maintenance of equipment and facilities of the Department of Water and Wastewater Resources; may be required to work under adverse conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:           The installation, operation and repair of pumps, compressors, motors, generators and related equipment; mechanical ability and skill in the use of tools and materials involved in the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment; use of welding equipment and cutting torch; knowledge of pipe and pipe fitting installations; use of appropriate safety equipment and tools and principles of safety and accident prevention.

Ability to:       Safely diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical defects; read, understand and work from blueprints, diagrams and installation sketches; understand and follow written and oral directions; prepare reports and keep accurate records; learn and efficiently use the Department's computerized maintenance information system; instruct others in maintenance and repair of the Department's equipment and facilities; perform heavy manual labor involving lifting, carrying, kneeling, crawling and climbing; work in adverse conditions which require exposure to noise, noxious odors, gases, contact with water and/or wastewater, and risk of bodily injury; maintain different tools and equipment in the fresh water and wastewater systems; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Education:     Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Experience:    Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of electrical and/or mechanical equipment.

Physical Requirements:       Moderate and sometimes strenuous exertion required, including sustained walking, standing, bending, climbing and lifting.

License: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License.

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, the Plant Operator II during an assigned shift is responsible for operation of the wastewater treatment plant and for maintaining a variety of machinery and equipment.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Monitors the operation of the wastewater treatment plant; operates treatment facility equipment such as settling tanks, pumps, activated sludge process, digesters, centrifuge, chlorinators and valves to control flow and processing of wastewater sludge and effluent; monitors gauges, dials, meters and control panels, and other recording instruments, interpreting results to determine processing requirements, and records data; oils, greases, and cleans equipment; services and maintains a variety of plant equipment; extracts samples and performs laboratory tests and analysis; inspects plant equipment and facilities to locate and report needed repairs; performs general plant maintenance work, such as sweeping, cleaning, sanding, and painting; performs general grounds maintenance work; maintains routine and daily records and shift logs; assists in the training of other plant operators, makes operating decisions in the absence of supervisory personnel; may have to work under adverse conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: The operation and routine maintenance of mechanical equipment, including pumps and electrical motors; control procedures for wastewater treatment processes; tools, equipment and methods used in the overhaul, repair, adjustment and modification of stationary power equipment, and of the pumping, piping, and electrical systems used in the water quality control plant; sewage treatment processes and the laboratory tests used to check the effectiveness of such processes.

Ability to: Operate equipment used in a water quality control plant, make standard laboratory tests of sewage, receiving waters and sludge and interpret such tests; read and interpret gauges and recording devices reflecting plant operations; adjust treatment processes as indicated by plant conditions; perform mechanical repairs, maintenance work, and modification to equipment used in a water quality control plant; use various mechanic's tools with skill and accuracy; adapt to day, swing or graveyard work shift; follow oral and written directions; perform heavy manual labor involving lifting, carrying, kneeling, crawling and climbing; work in adverse conditions which require exposure to noise, noxious smells, gases, contact with wastewater, and risk of bodily injury; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Experience: Two years experience in water quality control plant operations. Specialized training may be substituted for 6 months experience.

Physical requirements: Moderate, and sometimes strenuous exertion required, including sustained walking, standing, bending, climbing, and lifting.

Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent.

License: Possession of a State Water Resources Control Board Grade II Operator's Certificate and possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License (including acceptable driving record).

Salary Range: $20.10 - $24.42 per hour

About the Position

Position is responsible for a wide variety of recreation activities, including supervising Youth Center gym rentals and scorekeeping for adult and youth sports leagues (softball, basketball, flag football soccer, bocce ball, kickball, corn hole). Responsibilities during scorekeeping will include head on site supervisor, set up and cleanup of facility or field, maintain score and game time. Receives general supervision from a full-time Recreation Department staff member; may work under functional supervision of a Program Coordinator as assigned.

Schedule will vary depending on sports season; mornings, nights, and weekends as scheduled. Monday-Friday between hours 5:00pm-10:30pm, and weekends as scheduled.

Essential Duties

• Directs program participants as appropriate.
• Performs site maintenance duties.
• Serves as field or gym supervisor.

THE POSITION: The Public Works Department at the City of San Mateo has an opportunity for a per diem laboratory analyst to perform a variety of physical, chemical, biological and bacteriological analyses of water and wastewater according to standard methods and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two years of college study with at least twenty semester units of chemistry, biology or related science. A Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or related science would also be qualifying.
• One (1) year of work experience in an analytical laboratory.
• Able to work independently with direction from senior laboratory analyst/ laboratory supervisor

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
• Following established procedures, perform physical, chemical, and bacteriological analyses of water,
• wastewater, and related materials.
• Collect varied samples for analysis from specific locations according to a predetermined schedule; may collect special samples as conditions indicate.
• Compile and record onto standardized worksheets, logs, and forms, perform calculations and transfer data to database.
• Prepare chemicals, bacteriological media, and standard test solutions.
• Clean and maintain laboratory, equipment, and instruments.
• Maintain inventory of supplies.
