Traffic Safety Assignment

• Replaces, maintains and repairs guard rails, traffic dividers, signs, and similar traffic control devices.
• Assists in determining color of paint to be applied to street markings.
• Selects proper stencils for street markings.
• Applies stripes and intervals for new street markings.
• Places stencils over old street markings, start compressor and spray inside stencils.
• Cleans and maintains spray equipment, including stencil truck; place and pick up traffic cones during the operation of the striping machine.
• Prepares traffic signs.
• Applies sheeting to metal sign blanks for background color, numbering and lettering.
• Trim sign edges.
• Assists with street sign installation.
• Participates in the installation of raised pavement markers.

Street Sanitation Assignment

• Controls and remove litter.

The Facility Attendant performs custodial duties related to the care and cleaning of assigned facilities, performs a wide variety of duties for events, classes and programs, including setting up and tearing down of tables, chairs, equipment and supplies and will perform minor maintenance and repairs as needed.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Camp Maintenance Mechanic (Non-Career Intermittent) in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to keep our camps running smoothly by performing both routine and heavy, physical work in the construction, maintenance, repair and cleaning of camp facilities. Our two overnight camps are located near South Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from high school, and one (1) year of experience in construction and maintenance.

State of California Drinking Water Treatment Certifications (Grade 1 or 2) desirable. Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial (Class C) driver's license, and have a satisfactory driving record. Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds and be able to perform sustained heavy physical labor. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on off-hour shifts in emergency situations.

California Education Code Section 10911.5 requires that all public recreation program employers must fingerprint all persons having direct contact with a minor. The City does not hire persons who have been convicted of felony drug, sexual assault or physical assault crimes.

Distinguishing Characteristics: 

Under general supervision, the Recreation Aide assists in the proper use of a community recreational facility and assist Recreation Leaders in providing a variety of recreation programs. The Recreation Leader classification is distinguished from the Recreation Aide level in the complexity of duties assigned, independence of action taken, the amount of time spent performing the duties, the nature of the public contact made, and its training responsibilities of new staff. Positions at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to the assigned area of responsibility.

The Urban Forestry Division of the City of Fremont has two paid internships available for immediate hiring.  Through a variety of tasks and duties, interns will gain well-rounded, first-hand work experience and observational knowledge in the fields of urban forestry management and municipal administration.

The Role

The role consists of assisting city staff in the preservation, maintenance, and sustainable growth of Fremont’s urban forest. Examples of division responsibilities include program administration, tree assessment, community outreach and education, grant management, data collection and analysis, contracts and vendor management, project management, as well as other related responsibilities.

Examples of duties that may be assigned to interns include processing data through the city’s GIS- based tree data management system, reviewing and processing permit applications, developing and supervising tree planting initiatives, conducting public outreach and education, providing technical expertise, completing field work and assessments, Urban Forestry Management Plan implementation, and other duties as assigned.

The Senior Landscape Architect will plan, supervise, and review the work of City Landscape Architect staff. The incumbent will: coordinate and oversee various landscape projects; perform professional landscape architect work in conjunction with the design and preparation of plans, specifications and cost estimates for the development and rehabilitation of parks, landscaped areas and street beautification projects; inspect and review the work of developers and contractors landscaping for conformance with plans and specifications; and give professional advice on landscape matters.

Manages the work at a work site. Ensures that assigned tasks are accomplished. Keeps track of daily time, work performed and materials used. Performs inspection for street re-surfacing public works projects. Clears and cleans roadsides, gutters, culverts and other drainage facilities. Participates in the removal, repair and replacement of storm drainage pipe. Due to variety of outdoor settings, needs to be able to work in all weather and terrain conditions. Due to 24-hour maintenance needs, needs to be able to work at all times of day and night. Operates light and heavy motorized construction and maintenance equipment including grappler, rollers, VacCon trucks, street sweepers, backhoes, compressors and pneumatic tools. Drives equipment to and from job sites. Loads and unload equipment; inspect equipment. Excavates, backfills, grades and rolls construction and repair sites. Cleans work sites and equipment. Perform preventative maintenance, adjustments and minor repairs on equipment. Cleans equipment. Greases, lubricates and fuels vehicles. Changes backhoe buckets and teeth. Perform various Sanitation tasks including drain inlet cleaning, storm line inspection and street sweeping. Performs heavy physical labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects, shoveling, raking and leveling asphalt.
