DEFINITION

• OPERATOR I (COLLECTION)
  Under general supervision or direction, the Operator I (Collection) is responsible for the overall operation of the wastewater collections system, which includes the repair and maintenance of the sewer collection system and pump stations.
   
• OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
  Under general direction, supervises the operation of the Collections System of the Wastewater Treatment Plant on a designated shift to ensure processing and discharge of wastewater which complies with performance standards of State regulatory agencies; perform any combination of tasks involved with inspection, construction, repair, and preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance of sanitary personnel; prepares logs and other records; performs maintenance tasks as required and other related duties as required.
   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS

For the Collections System, ability to locate, detect cause, and correct sewer stoppages; detect and perform minor repairs and adjustments to sewer equipment; maintain pumps and related mechanical equipment; and report to work at any time during an emergency.  Perform electrical and mechanical repairs, maintenance work and modification to equipment used in a water quality control plant; use various mechanic’s tools with skill and accuracy; available for standby on sewer calls on a rotation basis; follow oral and written directions; maintain working relationships with other employees.  (See Physical Demands section as it relates to Essential Function Requirements.)

• Positions in this classification require one to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb, and stand for long periods of time. 
• Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects necessary to perform job functions. 
• Must be able to adapt and workday, swing or graveyard shift.

  • Employees work primarily in the field and are exposed to noise, dust, pollen, grease, smoke, fumes, chemicals, noxious odors, gases, heat, and cold in confined workspaces and in all types of weather conditions.

BASIC EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

• OPERATOR I (COLLECTION)
  Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Performs operation and maintenance on sanitary sewer pump station.
  • Responds to service requests regarding clogged mainline stoppages, mainline breaks, manholes and related structures.
  • Performs mechanical work in repairing and installing equipment.
  • Operates compressor, air gun tamper, backhoe and other related construction tools.
  • May undertake minor carpentry, plumbing, cement work and electrical.
  • Performs general grounds maintenance work, sweeping, sanding, painting.
  • Maintains routine and daily records.
     
• OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
  Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Lead a crew in the safe performance of preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance of sanitary sewers
  • Respond to service requests, unclog mainline stoppages, and keep records on sewer line cleanings and state of existing problems within the Collections System
  • Repair mainline breaks, replace broken pipe and reconnect pipe sections
  • Operate power rodder, jet truck, backhoe and TV equipment
  • Conduct periodic inspections and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to wastewater pumping stations and equipment
  • Keep daily logs and records on equipment; makes reports to the supervisor
  • Provide technical assistance and prescribe work methods and safety procedures to maintenance workers and utility workers
  • Inspect installation of new sewer lines, laterals and related structures; may study blueprints and specifications preparatory to inspection of construction project
  • Supervises the work of all operating personnel assigned to shift; trains and evaluates performance of shift employees, enforces safety procedures in conformance with policy of plant’s safety program.

Definition:

Under supervision, performs a variety of minor maintenance and repair of District facilities, coordinates maintenance and repair of various buildings and equipment, ordering, receiving, storing, distributing and conducting inventory of facility equipment and supplies; performs other related duties as required.   

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
• Possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License. Possession of a valid California Commercial Class B Driver License, with all applicable endorsements (i.e. air brake and tanker endorsements), is required within six (6) months of appointment. 
• Possess a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency, or a high school proficiency certificate.

Typical Duties: (may include, but are not limited to, the following)

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs to facilities, (e.g., carpentry, minor electrical repairs, plumbing, and other related activities).
• Prioritize repair and maintenance work orders; performs, schedules, or coordinate general repairs or maintenance as needed.
• Plan and coordinate schedules for preventative maintenance on equipment, machinery, tools, and facilities.
• Perform routine manual tasks as requested, such as assembling furniture or equipment, hanging pictures or shelves, changing light bulbs, etc.
• Maintain work records and logs and prepare activity reports as required.
• Utilize a computer calendar to be notified of reoccurring or annual maintenance tasks; access computerized maintenance management system to track work orders.
• Order, receive, stock and issue parts and supplies; verify incoming shipments for appropriate quantity and quality.
• Inventory materials, parts, and supplies; report replacement needs; establish minimum/maximum stock levels and monitor stock levels based on usage and lead time.
• Maintain files; compile records of supply transactions; input and receive data; prepare quarterly and yearly performance reports. 
• Provide follow-up on all orders to ensure delivery schedules are met.
• Drive fire apparatus as necessary to deliver equipment. 
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to noise, dust, flammable and combustible materials, and inclement weather. Work involves physical exertion, including lifting up to 75 pounds, stooping, reaching, and climbing.

Disaster Service Worker:

All Central Fire District of Santa Cruz County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the District requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.

Unforeseen Overtime and Unusual Hours:

Due to the emergency nature of the fire service, employees of the Fire District are occasionally required to work extended hours, be called in for overtime, or have adjustments in their regular schedule to accomplish the goals of the District during emergency operations.

The City of San Mateo is building a cross-functional team tasked with upgrading the City’s 15.7 MGD conventional activated sludge plant with new liquids treatment process facilities, including headworks, primary treatment, five-stage biological nutrient removal/membrane bioreactor (BNR/MBR) process, biological and chemically enhanced treatment (BioACTIFLO) process, and other general plant upgrades, including odor control to serve the new facilities. What You’ll Do

• Operate wastewater treatment facilities to control flow and processing of wastewater, sludge and effluent; monitor gauges, meters and control panels; observe variation in operating conditions, interpreting meter and gauge readings and test results to determine processing requirements.
• Operate valves and gates, start and stop pumps, engines and electric motors to control and adjust flow and treatment processes, operate and maintain boilers, perform routine maintenance work on valves, tanks, related equipment and facilities.
• Monitor, adjust and troubleshoot as needed plant operational processes utilizing data-driven technology, such as the SCADA or PCS system.
• Fully utilize the computerized work systems in accordance with work flow processes.
• Operate treatment plant vehicles and stationary machinery as required.
• Collect samples and perform routine laboratory tests and analyses.

These positions require shift work, nights, weekends, holidays with on-call emergency response 24 hours per day. However, along with this challenge is the benefit of working a 12-hour shift that results in a very favorable work/life balance and requires the minimum commuting days as compared to other standard 8-hour shifts.

Who You Are

The WWTP Operator in Training:

• You have graduated from high school or equivalent, and have six educational units of math or science course work, and six months experience in handling mechanical equipment and tools.
• You have up to 18 months to obtain a Grade I WWTP Certificate to promote to WWTP Operator I.

The WWTP Operator I:

• You have graduated from high school or equivalent and have six months experience in handling mechanical equipment tools.
• You possess a Grade I WWTP Certificate and work under direct supervision of the WWTP Shift Supervisor or WWTP Operator II and perform more routine operation work.
• You may be promoted to WWTP Operator II upon obtaining a Grade II WWTP Certificate and completing qualifying training.

The WWTP Operator II

• You possess a Grade II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate issued by the State of California.
• You have graduated from High school or equivalent and a minimum of one year of experience in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant.

The Custodian position at the Glenn County General Services Department performs a variety of custodial / janitorial duties throughout the County of Glenn. These may include but are not limited to: sweeping, mopping, buffing and polishing floors; vacuuming and shampooing carpets; spot cleaning carpets; cleaning and sanitizing restrooms; cleaning / sweeping exterior walkways, removing trash and debris. Receives immediate supervision from the Lead Custodian or other higher-level supervisory and management staff. This position is scheduled to work Monday - Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. forty (40) hours per week. This position is subject to full background check, DMV driving record and pre-employment medical screenings. This recruitment may be used to establish a list to fill future vacancies for the next twelve (12) months.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Performs exterior cleaning duties, including but not limited to cleaning / sweeping exterior walkways, porches, steps, etc.; removing trash and debris; cleaning door mats; washing exterior windows; removing cobwebs, etc.
• Monitors and refills cleaning and paper supplies.
• Secures doors and windows; turns lights on/off.
• Reports building maintenance and repair needs to appropriate staff person(s).

Refuse Truck Driver II

This is a journey level class and is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I classification by the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance as unusual or unique situations arise. This class is distinguished from the Senior Refuse Truck Diver in that the latter provides technical and functional supervision over assigned staff or division programs and responsibilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Refuse Truck Driver II

Receives general supervision from a Public Works Supervisor. May receive technical and functional supervision from a Senior Refuse Truck Driver.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Drives and operates a variety of collection vehicles and equipment including one or two-person-staffed refuse collection truck, front, rear and side loaders in the collection and transportation of residential and commercial refuse; responds to afterhours call-outs if assigned.
• Maintains assigned truck by regular cleaning and washing, including inspecting for mechanical or other operating problems; reports mechanical or related problems for maintenance; may perform minor maintenance as appropriate.
• Operates hydraulic/mechanical controls to load, compress, and dump refuse; collects and disposes of debris on assigned route; transports refuse to/unload at appropriate landfill sites and/or sewage treatment plant.
• Assists with battery sorting, electronic waste collection, bin repair or delivery, cardboard removal, illegal dumping cleanup, and any other related solid waste program or assignment.
• Completes and posts notification tags on containers, bins and dumpsters for unacceptable contents for refuse collection.
• Prepares, maintains and submits records, reports and forms including time records, equipment and maintenance records, and route maps and logs.
• Responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is appropriate and resolves public service complaints.
• Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies, City management and staff and the public.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

The following are a representative sample of the KSA’s necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

The General Maintenance Worker is essential to maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of our community spaces. This role involves a wide range of responsibilities, including:

• Field Preparation: Setting up and maintaining sports fields, including mowing, watering, infield grooming, mound/plate repair, edging and chalking the field

SALARY AND HOURS:

$18.08 - $18.99  -  $19.93 -  $20.93 -  $21.96 per hour.  This is a part-time position, paid sick leave benefit available. Initial appointments are generally made at the first step of this five step scale.  Hours will range from 15-25 hours per week.  Candidates that make the eligibility list may be selected for shifts as needed throughout the year.  Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the entire year.
