The Ideal Candidate

Work Schedule: This is a 20-24 hours per week position. The regular work schedule is Thursday and Friday; weekend work may be occasionally required. This position is limited to up to 1000 hours per year. However, employment might end sooner, depending on the needs of the hiring department. Extra-help positions are paid hourly and are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the extra-help assignment. 

Essential Responsibilities
Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Actively engage with the public to provide excellent customer service, anticipate customer needs and deliver services in a timely and respectful manner.
• Patrols parks or trails and other public recreational area.
• Provide information and direct visitors to appropriate park areas.
• Develop and participate in interpretive programs.
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents of vandalism, and other related conditions.
• Interpret and apply oral or written material/instructions.
• Prepare reports and maintain records of activities; may make recommendations on relevant subjects such as modifications to equipment or facilities to reduce vandalism or improve safety.
• Tactfully and effectively enforce rules and regulations governing facilities. Issue warnings and code citations, directs traffic, enforce park rules as necessary.
• Assist ill or injured park visitors until proper medical aid arrives.
• Operate a motor vehicle or motorized maintenance equipment.
• Conduct light maintenance activities (e.g., repairing, making and installing signs, fences, etc.).
• Perform watering, weeding, pesticide applications, pruning, trash control and perform minor repairs and custodial maintenance.
• Operate light motorized equipment including, but not limited to, pick-up trucks, dump trucks, power mowers, sprayers and tractors. 
• May occasionally operate heavier and more complex equipment.
• Ensure compliance with park rules, codes and ordinances.
• Work weekends, holidays, or other irregular hours.
• May direct the work of other employees on an intermittent or project basis.
• May direct the work of volunteer service organizations on an intermittent or project basis.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Fire Department is seeking customer service and public safety focused individuals to join the wildfire mitigation team. Under supervision, inspectors will perform a variety of wildfire prevention duties with a focus on one-on-one education via property wildfire risk evaluations.  The Inspector’s efforts will support resident compliance with City and State Fire codes.

The customer-service oriented positions will support the City’s and Marin Wildfire Fire Prevention Authorities (MWPA)’s goals. The ideal candidate will be able to connect and inspire individual action among our diverse community by explaining complex concepts in easy-to-understand ways.  Inspectors will utilize tablets and other technology to document findings and interactions in the field.

Our highly qualified candidate will be able to work effectively in small teams or independently and clearly communicate wildfire safety-related information to residents from various backgrounds.  We are looking for people who have sound judgment and can communicate effectively with others.  They will need to be able to follow both verbal and written instructions, engage effectively with the public and work harmoniously with our team. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):    

• Perform defensible space inspections and wildfire risk evaluations in accordance with San Rafael Municipal Code 4.12.
• Investigates public and referred public agency complaints.
• Provide guidance to residents on suggested and required home hardening and defensible space strategies. 
• Provide residents with appropriate support resources and programs.
• Increase awareness, knowledge and actions implemented by individuals and communities to reduce human loss and property damage from wildfires.
• Collects, enters, maintains, and disseminates data pertaining to fire prevention; reconciles reports, files and records.
• Composes letters and reports based on field notes.
• Collect and input data and images into electronic devices.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Communicate clearly and respectfully to residents and stakeholders.
• Learn and apply City and State Fire Codes and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
• Provide clear and concise written reports free of grammar and spelling errors.
• Utilize personal computers, tablets, and related software including the Microsoft Office Suite, mapping, and database tools.
• Independently conduct fire (defensible space) inspections.
• Apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection techniques.

The City of American Canyon Parks & Recreation Department invites energetic, creative and responsible individuals to apply for the position of Program Coordinator. Program Coordinators are part-time, temporary staff members who work under Recreation Coordinators to oversee and implement a wide range of recreation programming. THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Police Department is seeking to fill the full-time exempt position of Senior Management Analyst II (Advanced Professional Temp). This is a three (3) year fixed-term position, with the potential to be extended dependent on available funding and job performance.  This is an “at will” position with benefits available.  Employment may be terminated with or without cause or notice, at any time by the City of San Rafael. 

 The Senior Management Analyst (Advanced Professional Temp) will support the work of the newly formed Police Advisory and Accountability Committee (PAAC).  

This position performs the following essential job duties (including but not limited to):

• Manages community concerns of the PAAC.
• Supports the public meeting process including coordinating agenda items for public meetings, memorializing meeting minutes and any actions taken by the PAAC.
