The City of East Palo Alto is seeking qualified candidates for a Building Inspector I/II. Under direct or general supervision, the Building Inspector I/II performs routine to complex inspections at various stages of construction, alterations, and repair of residential, commercial, and industrial building sites to enforce building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and environmental codes, and other governing laws and ordinances. Inspections include basic zoning, grading, fire, and safety regulations to ensure conformance with approved plans, specifications, standards, permits, licensing, and safety standards.

The Building Inspector I/II provides a variety of information to property owners, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors; and performs related duties, as assigned. The Building Inspector II differs from the level I in that is the advanced level classification in the Building Inspector series. The Building Inspector II provides a high level of discretion and independent judgment in performing the full range of routine to complex inspections. Work is normally reviewed upon completion and for overall results. Incumbents also provide lead direction and functional supervision to assigned clerical, technical, and professional staff. Essential Duties

• Program Oversite

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is desirable.  This provision may be waived for applicants 15 to 18 years of age with ability to obtain a valid work permit.

Experience:  Previous experience as a lifeguard, having worked with youth and WSI certification is desirable.

Special Requirements:  Current Lifeguarding, Standard First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certificates are required. Current certifications for this program are not required prior to applying for position.

SALARY AND HOURS:

$17.06 – $17.91– $18.80 – $19.75 - $20.72 per hour.  This is a part-time position, paid sick leave benefit available. Initial appointments are generally made at the first step of this five step scale.  Hours will range from 15-25 hours per week.  Candidates that make the eligibility list may be selected for shifts as needed throughout the year.  Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the entire year.

The Position

Under direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the recreation coordinator assists in the development, supervision and evaluation of a wide range of recreation programs for various age groups; organizes and conducts special events; oversees volunteers and part-time staff; has responsibility for assigned portions of the Recreation Supervisor program responsibilities; and does other related work as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS

• Possession of a BA/BS degree in recreation or related field and one year of professional recreation work experience.
• Basic computer skills needed for reports & recordkeeping.

REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
