About this role

The San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department is looking for highly motivated individuals to be part of our support staff team.  The successful candidate should be customer service oriented, organized, professional, friendly, able to multi-task, an excellent communicator, and able to work independently.  This part time, non-benefited position will average 15-25 hours a week and is limited to less than 1000 hours in a fiscal year.  To find out more about the position, please visit www.smcfire.org (Job Descriptions – SMC Fire – Office Assistant).

What You’ll Do

• Provide excellent customer service for the Fire Prevention and Fire Administration divisions
• Manage calendars of multiple inspectors, schedule inspections, and charge appropriate fees
• Perform a variety of general clerical duties, including filing, photocopying, processing of mail, supply ordering, scanning, and answering a multi-lined telephone system
• Process invoices for payments and enter data/information in the preparation of reports, including setting up of new vendors and reviewing statements
• Assist with website updates
• Process special event permit applications, prepare invoices for permit fees, collect fees, and issue permits
• Provide information and assistance regarding public education to the general public
• Update and maintain a variety of forms
• This position will occasionally lend administrative support to other divisions within the department when needed

The San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department is a full-service agency that serves the cities of Belmont, Foster City, and San Mateo. The Department serves nearly 164,000 residents daily, with a daytime population of around 230,000. The Department is responsible for nine fire stations, deploys ten front line type 1 fire engines, and two aerial tiller trucks. The Department is partnered with the State of California for mutual aid deployment. Additionally, the Department participates in the San Mateo County mutual aid program including hazardous materials and water rescue response, helping to secure a million people daily. What You’ll Do

• Perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of diesel and gas-powered apparatus, vehicles, hydraulic systems for aerial ladders, and other like equipment.
• Accept assignments received in the form or oral or written communications.
• Determine the nature and extent of needed repairs, prioritize them, and perform necessary repairs.
• Inspect all department vehicles to ensure they meet proper safety protocols and are in standard working order.
• Maintain all vehicles to ensure safe working order for all employees.
• Perform regular servicing and preventative maintenance on all vehicles and apparatus including performing tune-ups, lube, oil, filter, Inspection, and chassis lubrication.
• Diagnose, service, maintain such things as: fire pumps, relief valves, and other control of plumbing equipment (proper certification required).
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair engines, power train components, transmissions, transfer cases, differentials, hydraulic and pneumatic brake systems, steering and suspension systems, and electrical systems.
• Perform welding and fabricating work when applicable.
• Operate all equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
• Perform routine shop maintenance and clean-up and dispose of hazardous materials according to established procedures.
• Keep records of work assignments for bookkeeping and tracking purposes.
• Potentially respond to unanticipated emergencies to make temporary and/or permanent repairs in the field.

Central County Fire Department (CCFD) serves the Cities of Burlingame and Millbrae and the Town of Hillsborough. The Department serves a population of 66,045 from six fire stations across a service area of approximately 15 square miles. CCFD is supported by 91 FTEs and a FY2023-24 operating budget of $33.14 million. The Fire Marshal reports to the Deputy Fire Chief and oversees the Prevention and Preparedness Division supported by 7 team members.
 
CCFD is seeking a well-regarded professional in the regulatory community who is an outstanding communicator and relationship builder capable of easily establishing credibility with a wide range of audiences. Three years of experience as a fire inspector or as a company officer performing fire prevention inspections and possession of an AA/AS degree will be considered qualifying. A California Fire Prevention Officer Certificate is required. A Bachelor’s degree is desirable.

Woodside Fire Protection District offers an exceptional Cadet Program for individuals interested in a career in the Fire Service. Cadets gain hands-on experience participating in training and public service events. Cadets work 24-hour shifts and ride-along on emergency calls.

Woodside Cadets will work and be involved in:

Emergency calls, firefighter training, public education events, fire prevention, station duties, CERPP, CPR/first aid training. They must also meet monthly hour requirements and attend monthly training drills.

The Cadet term begins in July 1st 2024 through June 30th 2025.

Cadets must have a valid EMT certification, proof of medical insurance and a valid California driver license in order to apply.

Salary

Child Care Aide: $16.50 - $19.50 per hour, part time, non-benefited, typically limited to 1,000 hours per year.  

Child Care Associate Teacher: $20.00 - $25.50 per hour, part time, non-benefited, typically limited to 1,000 hours per year.

CHILD CARE AIDE

This position will work directly with a Child Care Site Coordinator or Lead Teacher at varying pre-school or K-6/ K-8 school sites based on program needs. The Child Care Aide is responsible for leading activities and supervising small groups of children in State-funded Title V programs.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assisting staff in implementing youth recreation activities, sports, arts, crafts, and other age-appropriate activities
• Maintaining discipline, site safety and observe the overall physical and emotional well-being of the program participants

The City of Newark is seeking energetic, organized, and responsible individuals who enjoy working with school-age children. Recreation Leaders will assist in the implementation and planning of a wide variety of arts and crafts, sports, games, special events, and excursions.
