• Oversee the maintenance and repair of about 100 vehicles, including emergency response vehicles, and a variety of equipment (e.g., generators, trailers, boom trucks, compressors, wheel loaders, street sweepers, etc.).
• Coordinate regular and preventative maintenance on all vehicles and equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical tissues and perform or coordinate the necessary repairs to ensure vehicles are in optimal working condition and meet proper safety protocols.
• Prioritize and schedule maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and ensure fleet readiness.
• Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to procure parts and equipment.
• Oversee the upfitting process for first responder vehicles, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary tools and technology to support emergency operations.
• Support maintenance of the Department's asset management software to track vehicle and equipment maintenance schedules and inventory.
• Provide excellent customer service to internal stakeholders, promptly responding to repair requests and informing them of maintenance progress. 
• Supervise a part-time mechanic.

Position Summary

 

Under general direction of the Ferry Maintenance Manager, this position will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive maintenance job plans for our fleet of passenger ferries and facilities. The Ferry Maintenance Planner is responsible for all aspects of the planning process with the goal of improving workforce productivity and work quality by eliminating potential delays and obstacles. This position is also responsible for analyzing and interpreting data and preparing correspondence and reports with recommendations to management.

Essential Responsibilities

 

• Develops and maintains a comprehensive job plan library to support maintenance activities for the ferry division assets, including routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs, at the direction of the Ferry Maintenance Manager.
• Performs fact finding job walks and inspections against maintenance service requests to create effective maintenance job plans.
• Collaborates with Ferry Maintenance Manager and Shop Foreman to coordinate maintenance activities, ensuring minimal disruption to ferry operations.
• Works with store room and procurement personnel to ensure parts availability in line with maintenance work plans and schedules.
• Uses work order data and job plans to optimize on-hand inventory, identify and maintain sufficient critical spares inventory
• Coordinates with external vendors and contractors for specialized maintenance and repair services.
• Ensures contractors are notified of any safety requirements prior to arrival on site.
• Reviews work order actuals (parts, labor, requisitions) data prior to records being closed.
• Identifies trends, optimize maintenance work plans, and improve overall maintenance efficiency by finding and eliminating defects in process and design.
• Prepares reports and documentation related to maintenance activities including work orders, maintenance logs, and equipment records. 
• Ensures compliance with all relevant safety regulations, industry standards and Ferry Division Safety Management System.
• Assists in the development and implementation of training programs for maintenance staff.
• Stays updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies in Reliability Centered Maintenance.
• Undertakes improvement initiatives to support maintenance performance.

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education and/or Experience: 

• Associate degree in a related technical field. Qualifying Experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis in lieu of education
• Four (4) years of experience in industrial or transportation maintenance, preferably in the maritime industry.  
• Experience in using a Computerized Maintenance Management System, CMMS (IBM Maximo Preferred)
• Experience at an advanced level preforming maintenance-based planning (Labor, materials, tools, impact to operations) and technical administrative responsibilities is desirable. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency using advanced word processing, spreadsheet and database software; prepare analysis, presentations, and spreadsheets using Excel.

 

Required License: 

Must possess and maintain a current, valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record.  

 

Physical Requirement: 

Working inside and outside in all weather conditions. Work around fumes, odors and dust in an occasionally high noise level environment. Ability to access and inspect all above and below deck spaces and voids. Ability to travel to District facilities. Routine use of computer, telephone and other office equipment.

This position reports directly to the Operations Control Manager, who provides general supervision, guidance, and assistance.  A substantial portion of the dispatcher’s work is assessment of unscheduled events and corrective action follow through.   Dispatcher’s work is evaluated by performance in maintaining scheduled and unscheduled service, dealing with emergency situations, supervision of bus operators, and interaction with bus transportation supervisors.
 
The primary responsibility of the Dispatcher is to make work assignments to bus operators in accordance with the labor agreement; within a geographic service area, to safely maintain scheduled and unscheduled service. Minimum Qualifications

 

Education and/or Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of customer service experience in a fast-paced environment or experience in dispatching vehicles. Transit experience is preferred. Must pass the Dispatcher Training Program and Probationary Period. (This will include classroom instruction. The classroom instruction will consist of tests that must be passed. There will be modules on District fares, routes, knowledge of bid cycles, run books, policies, procedures, and MOU procedures, along with other paperwork associated with the duties of this position.)
 
Required License: Must possess and maintain a current, valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record. No more than 2 moving violations within the last 3 years. No DUIs or reckless driving infractions within the last 7 years. May operate District vehicles. 
 
Physical Requirement: Lift up to 50-pound boxes and supplies. May require long periods of standing. Frequent bending and reaching. Long periods of working at a computer workstation. General

The Procurement Administrator II reports to a Procurement Administrator III in Contracts and Procurement and is responsible for preparing and processing Invitations for Bids (IFBs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Quotations (RFQs), and Purchase Orders (PO’s) for the procurement of goods, materials, equipment, professional services, and public works.

Essential Functions & Duties

 

• Manage all phases of the procurement process in compliance with applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and policies governing public agency purchasing (e.g. California Labor Code, Prevailing Wage, and California Contract Code).
• Review solicitation requirements for reasonableness, recommend contract type, determine appropriate procurement strategy, and method of compensation.
• Develop terms and conditions and solicitation provisions.
• Lead contract negotiations to achieve best overall value for the agency.

Minimum Qualifications

Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, or related field.
• Three (3) years relevant full-time professional-level experience with procurement and administration of equipment, material, maintenance, public works, and professional or other services-type contracts.

Position Overview

Under the direction of a Supervising Stationary Engineer, Stationary Engineers are responsible for a wide variety of repair and maintenance work in the areas of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, emergency power systems, water treatment systems, boiler equipment, and piping repair, building automation systems, and miscellaneous equipment repair. Stationary Engineer II is a journey-level classification, and incumbents are expected to have proficiency, perform independently, and solve complex problems in all of the areas listed above.

The ideal candidates for these positions will have:

• At least three years of journey-level experience as a Stationary Engineer.
• A minimum of three years of journey-level experience in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Extensive knowledge and experience working with boiler and HVAC systems.
• Proficiency in a wide variety of installations and repairs on plumbing, gas system piping, chiller/boiler piping, and wastewater systems, including the ability to operate a large sewer snake.
• Certification as a Backflow Prevention Tester.
• Experience in energy management and computer-controlled systems.
• The ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a variety of equipment, including air conditioning, electric motors, heating units, heat pumps, light commercial furnaces, burners, fresh air and exhaust fans, economizers, and humidifiers.
• Experience with Fire Alarm testing, troubleshooting, and NFPA codes.
• Experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.

The Economic Development and Innovation Division is dedicated to fostering economic vitality by facilitating collaboration between businesses, community, and the city.  Our mission is to increase investments in San Rafael that contribute to the growth of the City's economy, foster fiscal sustainability, expand job opportunities for all residents, and enhance the community's quality of life.

THE ROLE AND PROJECTS:
Reporting to the Economic Development Program Manager, the Intern will be engaged in project-based work to advance key economic development strategic initiatives.  Examples of the work include, but are not limited to the following:

• Implement tasks outlined in the San Rafael Economic Development Strategic Plan.
• Develop a business support communications plan in collaboration with business support partners.
• Support Division Manager to activate outreach to businesses.
• Learn and assist with contract management.
• Evaluate resources available to various business groups through an equity lens.  Research strategies for business support for underserved sectors in San Rafael.
• Support activation of the Downtown San Rafael Arts District Strategic Plan.
• Administrative tasks as assigned.

HOURS, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
This position will work approximately 12-20 hours per week.  The candidate will have hands-on learning and work experience at San Rafael City Hall and outreach in the community.

This is a temporary position and hours worked may not exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year (July 1 thru June 30).

In accordance with the salary resolution, this position receives no benefits with the exception of Paid Sick Leave and a retirement plan.  

• Temporary employees are entitled to receive sick leave in accordance with California's Paid Sick Leave Law (AB 1522).
• Participation in a retirement plan is mandated by Federal Law and you will be enrolled in the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS):
  • Employee contributes 3.75% of salary
  • City of San Rafael contributes 3.75% of salary

Applications are being accepted for the position of Civil Engineering Intern (part-time hourly/temporary) with the Town of Hillsborough - Public Works Department.

Academic Experience

Interns with relevant coursework in the following fields are encouraged to consider assignments in the Public Works Department:

• Civil Engineering
  • Water resources
  • Construction Management
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Traffic Engineering
  • Land Development

Preferred candidates will have strong skills in Microsoft office,  GIS mapping, GPS marking, and Autocad are desired, but not required.

Interns may assist with the following:

• Survey utilities, property lines and sensitive species areas in Town owned open spaces or rights-of-way using GPS.
• Assist with developing database and mapping using ArcGIS.
• Assist with implementation of the Town’s computerized maintenance management system.
• Assisting with development of Capital Improvement Programs for sewer, water, and street departments.
• Assist with Public Outreach and content development. 

Desirable Skills
Surveying, familiarity with Trimble GPS units or other similar equipment, GIS, writing skills, able to work independently, good research skills, able to work outdoors and in heavily vegetated areas on steep terrain, , work safely.

Academic Credit
Students seeking academic credit for their internship must check with their respective school for requirements.  If credit is desired the Town will make a reasonable effort to assist in meeting your school requirements.
 
Compensation
Interns will be paid for their services between $25 to $30 based on skills and background.  Flexible weekly hours will range from part time to full time hours, depending upon assignment.

Restrictions
Internships are limited to no more than 960 hours in a fiscal year and are non-benefitted positions.
