ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City, Public Works Services Department (Department) invites you to apply for the position of Administrative Secretary. The incumbent will perform a variety of confidential and complex secretarial and administrative duties for a department head and other staff within a department and supervise the department’s clerical team.

Typical duties may include the following: supervise, direct, and train department clerical staff; serve as back-up for department clerical staff; compose routine correspondence not requiring the department head's personal attention; maintain appointment schedules and calendars; arrange travel, conferences and meetings; act as a receptionist; screen calls and visitors, and refer inquiries as appropriate; respond to complaints and requests for information regarding the intent of instructions, precedents and regulations; take and transcribe meeting notes; recommend organization or procedural changes affecting clerical activities; research, compile and analyze data for special projects and various reports; initiate and maintain a variety of files and records for information such as payroll, attendance, budget, production and cost records; maintain manuals and update resource materials; may serve as secretary to subcommittees or other commissions, preparing the agenda, assembling background materials, setting up meetings, and other support tasks.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City is recruiting a Deputy Fire Chief. This position performs responsible management, technical, personnel, budget and administrative work. Typical duties will include planning, directing, supervising and participating in the activities of one or more major divisions in the Fire Department. Under the direction of the Fire Chief, this position will directly supervise all Battalion Chiefs, Fire Marshal, Emergency Preparedness Outreach Coordinator and fire prevention personnel including sworn and non-sworn professional, technical and support personnel. The Deputy Chief may represent the San Carlos Fire Department as the primary liaison, under direction of the Fire Chief. The Deputy Chief will take command of the Departments in the absence of the Fire Chief, and performs related work as required.

ABOUT THE POSITION

In working with the Youth and Teen Unit individuals will have the opportunity to be a part of a team of dedicated Program leaders who are passionate about the community and inspiring youth to reach their full potential.   The City of Redwood City is providing after school program opportunities for youth at the Sandpiper Community Center in Redwood City. The City is looking for highly motivated program leaders to assist with academic support, and planning, organizing a variety enrichment activities. This position will report directly to the Recreation and Community Services Program Coordinator and will work approximately 20-28 hours per week, Monday - Friday during the school year (August 2023 to June 2024 depending on site assignment).   Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Provide academic/homework support to encourage them to do their best.
• Plan, organize and conduct recreation enrichment activities for youth.
• Encourage students to engage in a variety of health and enrichment activities and community services projects.
• Be a positive role model to participants, insuring that participants are physically and emotionally safe.
• Assist in preparing activity calendars, lessons plans that create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for participants to excel.
• Supervise participants, insuring that proper safety precautions are observed in assigned activities.
• Maintain and care for equipment; prepare activity calendars, bulletin boards, lesson plans and/or coaching strategies as appropriate to help promote and plan activities effectively.
• Assist in organizing, promoting, directing and staffing; report to supervisors orally and in writing.

The City of Redwood City invites you to apply for the position of Program Leader II (Teen Referee Training Program-After School Sports). 

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic high school students to train and work within our After School Sports Program as a flag football, volleyball or basketball officials.  On game days, youth referees will be partnered with an experienced official to provide mentorship and continuous training. 

Game days and times are Monday through Thursday, from 3:45pm-7pm. Youth officials will typically work two days a week. Officials will earn a referee certification and will be provided a referee shirt and whistle. Training dates will vary based on sport and season and will include classroom and hands-on instruction. 

Sample timeline:

Flag Football and Volleyball Training:

• Training Certification Mid-August – through September
• Games begin the last week of September – Second week of November

Basketball Training:

• Training Certification Mid-August – through September
• Games begin the first week of December – Second week of third week of March
• Referee certification and mentorship will be provided by local highs school referees association and the National Academy of Athletics.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Attendance at all training sessions
• Knowledgeable of the rules and regulations of assigned sport program.
• Officiate After School Sports scrimmage and games.
• Exercise sound judgment in addressing behavior problems.
• Establish and maintain a respectful and courteous working relationship with coaches, participants, and parents contacted in the course of work.
