Under supervision from the Boxing Coach, the Boxing Program Attendant will do daily tasks needed to assist in maintaining the Boxing Program. 

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Greet and assist boxing program participants and coaches.
• Provide customer service to the participants and their families.
• Set-up, take down and clean-up boxing programs and classes.
• Issue and collect equipment.
• Provide basic operational instruction of boxing and fitness equipment.
• Monitor safety ensuring the gym area is clear of potential hazards.
• Maintain accurate records including membership, fees, and inventory of sale.
• Daily cleaning and sanitization of gym area and equipment.

The Position
Pre-School Aides assist Pre-School Teachers with teaching fundamental cognitive, emotional, social, and physical skills to children three to five years old. This job entails interacting with the public and vendors participating in recreation and community activities, facilitating arts, crafts, games, and sports; performing participant check-in, reception duties and cash handling duties; assisting with large equipment (stage and booth) set-up, take down and housekeeping; opening and closing facilities. The Special Events division is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and implementing recreation programs and community events, requiring extensive face-to-face interaction with the public.

As our next Recreation Coordinator in the Special Events division, you will have the opportunity to be responsible for the following objectives:

• Develop plans for the delivery of recreation programs and community events to the public in accordance with the objectives set by the Recreation Supervisor or the Parks and Recreation Director. 
• Understand recreation program and community event objectives set by the Recreation Supervisor or the Parks and Recreation Director and consistently translate these objectives into meaningful service activities.
• Exhibit effective leadership and instruction skills in recreation programs and community events for which he/she/they are responsible. Effectively communicate these skills and techniques to participants and staff members.
• Maintain, enhance and provide content for social media pages on Facebook, Instagram, Nextdoor, City website and other social media channels, in partnership with City Communications Coordinator.

• Plan logistics for community events, including communicating with committee staff members, community volunteers, vendors, artists and performers; ordering and organizing supplies and attending planning meetings and discussions.
• Implement Community Events including greeting the public and answering questions; helping with set-up and clean-up; and supporting vendors, partners, volunteers, artists and performers by addressing equipment, technical, and other needs.
• Perform a wide variety of tasks such as writing program descriptions, proofreading/editing marketing content, taking photos or selecting imagery to be used in marketing campaigns.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of recreation programs and community events provided to the public. Solicits participant input to gauge participant reaction to program quality.
• Supervise volunteers and other part-time staff members as assigned. Objectively and constructively evaluates their performance, promptly apprising them of how well they are performing and/or in what specific areas they should seek improvement.
• Interviews and selects part-time staff and contractual partners as needed for recreation programs and community events.
• Assists in the preparation and oversight of the community events budget, summarizing results at program end.

THE POSITION

The Maintenance Worker I performs semi-skilled and skilled labor in the construction, maintenance, repair, and related service activities related to streets, sidewalk, park, grounds, irrigation, and/or turf and may be assigned to either the Streets & Fleet or Parks Maintenance Divisions. The current opening is in the Park Maintenance Division.

Typical duties in the Parks Division may include but are not limited to: Maintains turf, trees, shrubs, groundcover, top dressings, irrigation systems, playground equipment, park furnishings, restrooms, and sport field equipment; Operates and understands basic maintenance procedures for various power turf equipment, including but not limited to mowers of various sizes, edgers, blowers, chainsaws, and related equipment as required; Performs a wide variety of skilled tasks involving the use of power equipment and hand tools in the areas of park and grounds maintenance, irrigation system installation, programming, and maintenance, and tree/shrub trimming maintenance; Performs installation, maintenance and repair of various parks and grounds improvements and planting and trimming of trees/shrubs; Performs fertilizer and herbicide application related to turf and ornamental plant care; and performs other related duties as assigned.

The normal work schedule will be a 9/80 work schedule (9-hour days Monday-Thursday, 8-hour Friday with every other Friday off) from 6:00 am-3:30 pm. About the Position

Positions in this classification perform work in the organization and implementation of the San Carlos Youth Center After School Drop-In Program and Athletics Programs. Performs thorough and thoughtful customer service with community members.

The Program Coordinator classification is the top-level position in the Recreation Leader Series.  Advancement from Recreation Leader Level II to Program Coordinator requires 500 hours of work experience at Recreation Leader Level II, or equivalent experience.

May provide functional supervision to a Recreation Leader I or II as assigned.  Receives general supervision from full-time Recreation Department staff members.

Work schedule: Monday-Friday between 1:00pm – 9:00pm, may vary as needed. This classification works 20 to 30 hours per week as assigned.

Essential Duties

• Plans, organizes, coordinates and directs specialized recreation programs for primarily youth and athletics as assigned. 
• Works directly with recreation programs for youth, adults, including individuals with special needs. 
• Coordinate and implement program schedules and activities for youth. 
• Drive youth in city vehicle and lead field trips. 
• Oversees adult recreational sports leagues. 
• Supports youth flag football and basketball leagues. 
• Supports youth flag football summer camp. 
• Oversees the work of volunteers, Recreation Leaders I and II as assigned, to ensure effective programs. 
• Maintains required records, including team registrations, program supplies, and program statistics. 
• Oversight of programs, staff, and facilities in the absence of full-time Recreation Department staff member.

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work involving the trimming, removal, installation and general maintenance of trees.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Community Services Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of practices and procedures identified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) as they relate to a municipal setting. The Ideal Candidate will also possess good communication, customer service and writing skills, as well as demonstrate competence working with computers and related software, e.g., maintenance management and MS Outlook. Additionally, they will have a strong work ethic, ability to climb trees, work out of an aerial truck, be available to work overtime and perform standby duty as needed. The Ideal Candidate should have knowledge in operating chain and hand saws, operating a chipper, a background in landscaping with planting trees, and experience with setting-up and tearing-down of traffic control. The Ideal Candidate also has the knowledge of safety & best management practices used in operating and maintaining tree pruning equipment and trucks.

Tree Trimmer I:

This is the entry level class in the Tree Trimmer series.  Positions in this class will usually perform most of the duties required of Tree Trimmers I and II; however, as compared to the Tree Trimmer II, is not expected to function at the same skill level and will usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

Tree Trimmer II:

This is the journey level class in the Tree Trimmer series.  This class differs from Tree Trimmer I in that incumbent performs more complex duties.  This incumbent Tree Trimmer II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Prune trees and shrubbery to provide clearance of streets, sidewalks, signs, and lights, and as necessary to ensure continued health of the plant.  Remove fallen trees, dead limbs, and other debris resulting from storm damage and general conditions.  Participate in the large-scale application of herbicides and pesticides.  Clean and maintain trimming equipment.  Work both independently and as a crew member in removing trees and stumps.  Plant, stake, spray and inject trees.  Operate a chipper, aerial truck, mist sprayer and miscellaneous equipment which could include routers, loaders, forklifts, and dump trucks.  Use a variety of hand tools including hand saws, pole saws, chain saws, and pole loppers.  Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

May perform street drainage maintenance or other public works maintenance work when not assigned to tree trimming duties.  Respond to emergency situations after regular working hours.   Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Tree Trimmer I

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  Six (6) months of work experience involving tree maintenance or landscaping work including some tree trimming.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a valid California driver's license.  Must obtain a valid Class B California driver’s license, Work Zone Safety I certificate from the International Municipal Signal Association (or Department approved equivalent), First Aid and CPR certification prior to permanent appointment.

Tree Trimmer II

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  Eighteen (18) months of work experience involving tree maintenance work including pruning, trimming and caring for trees.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a valid Class B California Driver's License.  Possession of a Work Zone Safety I certificate from the International Municipal Signal Association (or Department approved equivalent), First Aid and CPR certification prior to permanent appointment.  Possession of a Certified Commercial Applicator license from the State of California and Certification as an Arborist by the International Society of Arboriculture is highly desirable.
