The Department of Public Works is currently recruiting to fill a Communications Technician position for the Radio Communications Shop. The Radio Communications shop maintains the communication system for the City of San José that is used by multiple departments, such as: Police, Fire, Department of Transportation, Parks Recreation Neighborhood Services (Park Rangers), and Public Works (Animal Care & Services).

The City of San José public safety and city services depend upon the use of commercial radio communications equipment. For police officers and firefighters, radio communications are the primary means of communicating with the 9-1-1 dispatch center in performing their duties. These vast stand-alone radio systems with fault-tolerant designs are essential to providing the public with reliable emergency response services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with demand for system survivability through any catastrophic event.

The key responsibilities of the Communications Technician may include:

• Installation, maintenance and repair of mobile and portable radios, base and control stations, microwave systems, dispatch consoles, voting receivers and comparators, digital Microwave system and P25 LMR systems.
• Respond to trouble reports, perform preventative maintenance and project assignments. Update technical documentation including wiring block assignments, CEB programming and configurations, as-built drawings of installed equipment at City radio sites, specialized vehicular installations, and diagrams of the City's various communications systems.
• Provide recommendations for process improvement changes with the input of technical staff.
• Construct and/or modify communications equipment and perform research on new equipment.

THE POSITION

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work involving the trimming, removal, installation and general maintenance of trees.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Community Services Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of practices and procedures identified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) as they relate to a municipal setting. The Ideal Candidate will also possess good communication, customer service and writing skills, as well as demonstrate competence working with computers and related software, e.g., maintenance management and MS Outlook. Additionally, they will have a strong work ethic, ability to climb trees, work out of an aerial truck, be available to work overtime and perform standby duty as needed. The Ideal Candidate should have knowledge in operating chain and hand saws, operating a chipper, a background in landscaping with planting trees, and experience with setting-up and tearing-down of traffic control. The Ideal Candidate also has the knowledge of safety & best management practices used in operating and maintaining tree pruning equipment and trucks.

 

Tree Trimmer I:

This is the entry level class in the Tree Trimmer series.  Positions in this class will usually perform most of the duties required of Tree Trimmers I and II; however, as compared to the Tree Trimmer II, is not expected to function at the same skill level and will usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

Tree Trimmer II:

This is the journey level class in the Tree Trimmer series.  This class differs from Tree Trimmer I in that incumbent performs more complex duties.  This incumbent Tree Trimmer II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Prune trees and shrubbery to provide clearance of streets, sidewalks, signs, and lights, and as necessary to ensure continued health of the plant.  Remove fallen trees, dead limbs, and other debris resulting from storm damage and general conditions.  Participate in the large-scale application of herbicides and pesticides.  Clean and maintain trimming equipment.  Work both independently and as a crew member in removing trees and stumps.  Plant, stake, spray and inject trees.  Operate a chipper, aerial truck, mist sprayer and miscellaneous equipment which could include routers, loaders, forklifts, and dump trucks.  Use a variety of hand tools including hand saws, pole saws, chain saws, and pole loppers.  Regular and consistent attendance.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

May perform street drainage maintenance or other public works maintenance work when not assigned to tree trimming duties.  Respond to emergency situations after regular working hours.   Perform related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Tree Trimmer I

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  Six (6) months of work experience involving tree maintenance or landscaping work including some tree trimming.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a valid California driver's license.  Must obtain a valid Class B California driver’s license, Work Zone Safety I certificate from the International Municipal Signal Association (or Department approved equivalent), First Aid and CPR certification prior to permanent appointment.

 

Tree Trimmer II

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  Eighteen (18) months of work experience involving tree maintenance work including pruning, trimming and caring for trees.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a valid Class B California Driver's License.  Possession of a Work Zone Safety I certificate from the International Municipal Signal Association (or Department approved equivalent), First Aid and CPR certification prior to permanent appointment.  Possession of a Certified Commercial Applicator license from the State of California and Certification as an Arborist by the International Society of Arboriculture is highly desirable.

To perform professional accounting and finance work and to assist in the City's budgeting function as assigned.  The Accountant I is an entry-level position and will perform the most basic and routine tasks to assist the department.  The Accountant II is a journey level position and will perform responsible and complex technical assignments in support of the department. Assist in planning and developing accounting procedures for bookkeeping and processing of claims, expenditures, purchases, budget data, payroll receipts, debt financings, and subventions. Check appropriation balances, recommend transfer of funds to other appropriation funds as necessary. Prepare and manage contracts, as deemed necessary, and monitor and review to determine that expenditures are made in accordance with terms of the contract. Assist with the evaluation of financing options and alternatives, as well as, the analyses, preparation, execution and recording of debt instruments. The City of Foster City is recruiting for a part-time Parks Maintenance Worker in the Parks Department. The is a part-time non-benefited position working approximately 20 hours per week, and no benefits are provided. 

Important and Essential Responsibilities 
Performs mowing, weeding, trimming, pruning, cultivating, fertilizing, pest control, planting and cleaning of lawns, trees, plants, and parks; removes and disposes of trash and litter; maintains park and maintenance equipment, buildings and facilities; maintains irrigation systems; performs construction and demolition of park facilities, drainage, low-voltage electrical and irrigation systems for new, expanded and renovated park facilities as part of capital improvement projects; performs minor plumbing or building repair duties; supervises and coordinates Sheriff’s Work Program personnel; operates small trucks, dump trucks, ride-on and walk-behind mowing equipment.

Selection Process

The City of Menlo Park is recruiting for an Assistant/Associate/Senior transportation planner (2 positions) to help our organization better serve the community and improve the City’s infrastructure. This position will provide an excellent opportunity to gain technical and project management skills and experience. As part of a small city, staff have the opportunity to work closely with the transportation team and community on a variety projects and subject areas.

The transportation division leads multi-modal and safety-focused infrastructure projects; engages with regional transportation partners including Caltrain, Samtrans, Caltrans, and other transit providers; maintains the City’s traffic signals, street lights, traffic signs and street markings; and administers local-serving shuttle and safe routes to school programs. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting or leading transportation studies and plans that may include complete streets plans, bicycle and pedestrian facility development, safety planning, railroad grade separation planning, or others. Assistant Transportation Planner

This is the entry-level classification in the professional transportation planning series. Initially, incumbents learn and perform a variety of techniques related to the development of short and long range transportation plans and conduct oversight of transportation demand management (both internal and external stakeholders), citywide shuttle, and safe routes to school programs. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the Associate level, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence.

Associate Transportation Planner

This is the journey-level classification of the transportation planning series, able to perform the full scope of professional transportation planning duties. Positions at this level are distinguished from the Assistant Transportation Planner level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment, initiative, and problem solving. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the Senior Transportation Planner in that the latter is the advanced journey-level class in the series and is responsible for performing more complex planning and project management activities.

Senior Transportation Planner

This is the advanced journey-level classification in the Transportation Planner series responsible for complex transportation planning and project management duties. Incumbents work on tasks that are varied and complex, requiring considerable discretion and independent judgement. Positions at this level conduct the full range of duties as assigned, work independently, and exercise judgment, initiative, and problem solving. The work involves problem solving of unique issues or increasingly complex problems without precedent or simple solutions. Assignments are given with general guidelines and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver work products. Work is typically reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements. Language Ability:

The City of Belmont is looking for an experienced professional for the position of Budget Manager. Under general direction of the Finance Director, the Budget Manager administers a variety of complex and professional budget and financial support functions within the Finance Department, including preparation and execution of all budgets, reports, accounting records, financial forecasts. This classification is responsible for the development, maintenance, and operation of the City's Annual Budget; providing financial information and analysis to aid in executive management decision making; performs the highest level of complex budget analysis and has frequent interaction with staff and leaders of other City departments. This classification may also oversee general financial functions such as cash flow management, audit procedures, payroll processing, coordinate assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies, supervise finance professional, technical and clerical staff, and related work as assigned.  A hybrid/partially remote schedule may be approved by the department.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in finance, budgeting, or accounting work.
• The equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, or related field.
• Supervisory experience is preferred.
