The Novato Sanitary District is seeking a highly motivated, innovative, and goal-driven individual to join our Collection System team as a Collection System Worker (CSW). The District will hire at the level of CSW I or CSW II depending on skills, certifications and licenses held by candidates in the pool of qualified applicants. 

The CSW performs a wide variety of tasks associated with the maintenance of wastewater collection and reclamation systems, including inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and repairs on lines, pump stations, and treatment facilities. The successful candidate will possess experience in general maintenance tasks, including the safe and effective operation of a variety of hand and power tools and equipment. Possession of a commercial driver's license is highly desirable. Experience working with sewer cleaning trucks and equipment is also a plus.

Education: Equivalent to a master's degree in Public Administration, Public Health, Public Policy, and/or Business Administration, or in a related field from an accredited college or university.

 

Experience: Five years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a multi-faceted health organization and/or healthcare system.

DEFINITION

 

Under supervision, performs electrical, preventive and corrective maintenance, modifications of existing equipment and the installation of new electrical equipment used within the wastewater treatment plant, the wastewater lift stations and the potable water pump stations and equipment; on 24-hour emergency call for electrical repairs; and performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

 

Installs, repairs, maintains or replaces electrical equipment including but not limited to, motor control centers, generators, switchgear panels, variable frequency drives, pump controllers, large distribution breakers, motors of various sizes and voltages, ground fault systems, magnetic and solid state starters, building lighting and power, HVAC equipment, reduced voltage transformers, SCADA control systems, fused disconnects, and various size and types of lighting. Shall review plans and specifications, may inspect electrical components to be installed during new construction, equipment replacement or modification. Shall maintain equipment records on the computerized maintenance system and update drawings as required.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge of: Electrical tools including but not limited to, basic hand and power tools, electric cable puller (mule), conduit benders (both hand and hydraulic), MEGGER, phase rotation meter, VOM meter, hydraulic knock-out tool, hand and power threading equipment, accepted safety practices and standards related to both personnel practices and proper handling and installation of equipment and systems. National Electrical Code; installation, operation and maintenance of motor control centers, power generation equipment, pumping control equipment with all types of motors.

 

Ability to: Read and interpret electrical diagrams, plans and electrical codes. Instruct others in preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance of electrical equipment and of safe work practices.  Work independently and with non-skilled electrical personnel.  Interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Physical Requirements:  Moderate and sometimes strenuous exertion required including crawling, stair climbing, lifting, carrying and/or handling up to 50 pounds for 30 minutes.  Work in confined areas and wear protective garments.  May work in conditions which require exposure to noise, noxious odors, gases and contact with wastewater.

 

Experience: Four years of journey-level electrical trade experience involving work performed in conformance with standard codes and both single and three phase equipment.  Experience with water or wastewater utility systems desirable.

 

Education:  Graduation from high school, or equivalent.  Continuing education in related subjects is desirable.

 

License:  Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License.

The San Mateo Public Library is seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) Library Assistant I/II  in the Children Services Division at the Main Library The Library Assistant I/II works closely with the Supervising Librarian and the four merit Children’s Librarians to prepare and implement Children’s programs and services. What You'll Do

The Library Assistant I/II performs a wide variety of library support work and technical library tasks related to such activities as acquisition, cataloging, classification, circulation, and assisting patrons; and performs related work as required.  The current vacancy may be filled at either level based on experience.  Depending upon class level and assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Prepare print and non-print materials for introduction into the library materials collection, including use of an automated system to retrieve cataloging data and produce catalog cards; preparing and affixing identification labels and pockets to materials; pull discarded materials from catalog card files.
• Assign routine tasks and provide technical instruction to part time and other subordinate positions in area of responsibility.
• Assist in the acquisition, processing and maintenance of the periodical, microform, audio visual, business, historical, or other special collection for the library.
• Assist adults and children in locating materials in the library and in placing requests for materials not available.  Refer more difficult or technical questions to appropriate library staff.
• Handle patron complaints for overdue and lost materials; refer delinquent accounts to an agency for collection.
• Maintain statistics of library use; use computer produced and manual data to prepare reports on circulation processing, inquiries received and other activities.
• Assist in ordering and receiving books, records, cassettes, periodicals, and other library materials and preparing associated paperwork for payment.
• Perform routine clerical assignments, including typing, maintaining files, and routing mail.
• Use a microcomputer or the City's mainframe system for word processing, data file management, and statistical record keeping.
• Process incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan requests; receive and send requests via computer as well as by mail; verify requests for accuracy.
• Provide story hours to children and participate in other programs for children and young adults.
• Prepare and maintain displays and exhibits; develop artwork for publicity materials.
• Recruit and keep records of the work of volunteers in the library; screen potential volunteers and direct to appropriate library division for assignment.
• Assist and advise outreach volunteers and serve as library liaison to Peninsula Library System Outreach Service in the City of San Mateo.
• Check out library materials to patrons; check in and prepare materials for return to the circulating collection; register new patrons; collect overdue fines.
• Respond to patron in person and telephone requests for library materials, services, and information.

The Library Assistant I/II receives direction from higher level personnel.  The Library Assistant II may provide technical supervision over lower-level library positions.

PART-TIME ARCHIVIST (LIBRARIAN I/LIBRARY ASSISTANT I)

The Mill Valley Public Library is looking for a part-time archivist for the Lucretia Little History Room. This individual should be passionate about preserving local history, particularly oral histories.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Reporting to the Supervising Archivist, the Part-Time Archivist in the Lucretia Little History Room will oversee the processing of new oral history recordings and work through the backlog. The ideal candidate will be able to multitask, work independently and collaboratively, with excellent communication and organization skills, and an eye for detail.

About the Position: The Volunteer Program Lead is the face of Midpen to volunteers working in various resource, trail, and land management roles in the preserves as well as being a representative to community organizations and partners.  This position motivates, energizes, and appreciates volunteers and ensures projects provide a safe and meaningful experience that support established agency needs. Responsibilities include working with maintenance, natural resource and volunteer management staff to coordinate all aspects of a successful volunteer program where trail maintenance and repair is the focus along with fostering joint partner efforts and relationships, and facilitating scout and other special projects. Work Environment/Working Conditions:

Under the supervision of the Volunteer Program Manager in the Visitor Services Department, this position will primarily report out of a designated Midpen field office (Cupertino and/or La Honda), which will include volunteer projects and administrative tasks. This position also works from home approximately one day per week (as approved) and occasionally at the Administration office in Los Altos.  Volunteer initiatives directed by this role may take place across various preserves requiring regular travel to and from the locations.  The Volunteer Program Lead’s schedule requires working at least one weekend day as part of the regular work week schedule, with an option to be on a 9/80 schedule after an initial training period plus occasional evenings and holidays.

 

The Volunteer Program Lead is a fairly independent position that supports the work of one or more departments within the agency, requiring solo work in the field, frequent site visits, and hiking steep terrain in wildland areas with poison oak and wildlife. Field work will also require driving a District truck in remote areas on unimproved dirt roads in inclement weather conditions. Work in the field may also include exposure to loud noise levels, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, hazardous physical substances and fumes.

 

Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in these types of field conditions, as well as in an office environment including some full days of program administrative tasks using various software programs and applications on a computer, phone, or tablet.

Additionally, candidates should be familiar with the principles and practices of trail building, construction, repair, and maintenance, including site planning and resource protection as well as the tools and equipment required for maintaining and repairing open spaces and related facilities.

 

This position wears a prescribed District uniform and adheres to strict safety procedures and work habits. Depending on the exposure, employees may be required to wear head, hearing, eye, foot, face, hand, or other protection equipment.

Education & Experience: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

 

Equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in natural resource management, biology, ecology, natural lands or park management, or a related field combined with two (2) years of relevant experience working with the public and coordinating volunteer activities.

 

Additionally, one (1) year of experience in one of the following areas (which can overlap with the above experience):

• One (1) year of experience in evaluating, surveying, or monitoring of natural resource systems, OR
• One (1) year of experience in trail construction, maintenance, and/or repair of parks, open spaces, and/or related facilities.  
• Bilingual skills are highly desirable.

Licenses & Certifications Required:  

• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, Basic First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification within six (6) months of employment.
