The Department:

The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City of Santa Clara. The Santa Clara City Library operates three facilities, a virtual branch through a website, and a bookmobile. The Library provides a collection of virtual and physical books and resources, services and programs, public internet access, adult literacy and English as Second Language classes for the Santa Clara community. Services and programs are free and open to all.

The Position:

The Santa Clara City Library is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Librarian with a strong service commitment. Provide library service and programming for Youth and Adults. Constant contact and collaboration with patrons of all ages, including those with diverse backgrounds and abilities. 

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Under immediate supervision:

• Performs professional librarian duties;

Minimum Qualifications for consideration are:

Education:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in mechanical repair or a related field.  

Experience:

Mechanic I: One year of experience performing minor and major equipment repairs.

Mechanic II: Two years of experience performing minor and major equipment repair duties including experience in the maintenance of both diesel and gas powered equipment.

License/Certificate:

Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months of employment, a valid California Class A driver’s license with Passenger Endorsement. Possession of ASE certifications are desirable.

Office Assistant

This is the full journey-level class in the office support series. Incumbents at this level are capable of performing the full range of advanced and difficult clerical and office support duties, including taking and transcribing meeting minutes and assisting in department-related projects and programs. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the administrative assistant in that the latter performs more advanced technical and specialized administrative support duties requiring additional training and/or experience and is typically assigned to a division manager or department head.
