MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in recreation or aquatics program planning, coordination or leadership which included one (1) year of lead experience in the principles and techniques of effective supervision. College level coursework in recreation, physical education or closely related field may be substituted for the experience on a year for year basis.

Other requirements include:

• American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid certification
• American Red Cross Title 22 Certification
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification
• Valid California Driver's License

Desirable within six months of appointment: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certificate, Certified Pool Operator certificate.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for a full-time level I or II (depending on qualifications and experience) Civil Engineer to provide technical assistance for Capital Improvement Program (CIP) delivery projects in the Public Works Department. CIP engineering tasks will be the primary focus of this position. However, to appropriately respond to community needs, the Engineer I/II may also provide support to the Land Development and Transportation engineering sections, so adaptability and flexibility are keys to success in this position.

In this exciting opportunity, you will be at the forefront of designing, planning, and overseeing various infrastructure projects that directly impact our community. The Engineer I/II will work under the direct supervision of a Senior Civil Engineer and will perform professional or sub professional engineering work in the field and office. Assignments will involve investigating, developing, and constructing a wide variety of public works facilities, and engineering projects that are geared towards transforming and modernizing the City of Gilroy.  This is in addition to representing the City in community meetings and hearings, meetings with project stakeholders, and on regional committees as applicable.

The Public Works Engineering Division is comprised of three engineering sections overseen by the City Engineer: Traffic/Transportation Engineering, Capital Improvement Program (CIP), and Land Development.  
Though the primary focus for this position is CIP, work assignments may vary and may include any of the following:
CIP: prepare plans, specifications and engineering estimates for Capital Improvement Projects, prepare requests for proposal/qualifications and contracts in conformance with the City's Purchasing Policy, oversee the City’s 5-Year Paving Program through the use of StreetSaver, manage consultant led projects and inspection teams, and assist the Senior Engineer with project budgeting and grant writing.
Traffic/Transportation: prepare plans, specifications, and engineering estimates for traffic and transportation related projects, prepare requests for proposal/qualifications and contracts in conformance with the City’s Purchasing Policy, manage various traffic and transportation projects and inspection teams, manage the City’s Sidewalk Replacement Program, work on various traffic studies, participate in regional transportation programs and initiatives, and assist the City Engineer with project budgeting and grant writing.
Land Development: assist in the review and processing of land development projects, plans for conformance to City standards and policies, storm water management plans with City consultants, preparation of City plan check comments, and construction material submittals. The Engineer will engage with developers and construction inspectors to track project review and approval schedules, and provide coordination with City master plan utility consultants.

EXAMPLES OF FIRST YEAR PROJECTS/ASSIGNMENTS:

• Prepare plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for public works capital improvement projects including roadways, trails, facilities-related projects.
• Annual pavement rehabilitation curb ramps, sidewalk replacement, and traffic calming projects. 
• Assist in administration of the bi-annual Public Works Department budget and Capital Improvement Program.
• Administer consultant contracts.
• Assist City Engineer and/or Senior Civil Engineer with high priority capital projects.

PROGRAM LEADER (Theatre Technician)

Salary Range: $17.37 to $23.15/hour, DOE

• This is a part-time temporary, non-benefitted position.
• Flexible schedule of 15-20 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends; not-to-exceed 950 hours per calendar year.
• This position is located at Village Theatre and Art Gallery.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED

General supervision is received from Program Coordinator. This position does not exercise supervision over others.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties are inclusive of, but not limited to the following:

• Assist renters and various user groups during events in Town facilities.
• Operate lighting and/or sound equipment.
• Box office management, reporting, and cash handling.
• Maintain and keep facility clean and in good working order during and after events.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have successfully completed 12th grade and be at least 18 years old with two years of experience in live performance theatre, with experience in operating theatrical lighting and sound or has taken relative coursework.  Set construction, production management and/or stage management is a plus.

Knowledge of:

• Operations, services and activities of technical operations of theatre programs.
• Theatre pre-performance, performance, and post-performance activities.
• Office procedures, methods, and equipment, including computers and applicable software applications.

Ability to:

• Work flexible hours, including weekends or holidays.
• Lift 50 pounds; carry 30 pounds.
• Perform duties with OSHA standards.

The Assistant Civil Engineer is an entry-level class in the Civil Engineer series. This class is distinguished from the Associate Civil Engineer by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the Civil Engineer series. Incumbents perform less complex office and field engineering work and assignments are generally routine or closely related within a framework of established procedures. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have applicable education but only limited related work experience. The Assistant Civil Engineer receives general supervision from higher level professional engineers and may exercise technical or functional supervision over technical engineering staff. The Assistant Civil Engineer position does not require registration as a civil engineer or professional engineer. 

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Perform a variety of engineering duties in support of capital improvement projects including road construction, storm drains, sewers, traffic systems and related construction projects.
• Perform design and engineering studies for capital improvement projects, including the preparation of project plans, research project design requirements, drawing specifications, cost estimates and project schedules.
• Preparation of Request for Proposals, including scope of work for a variety of engineering projects and studies. Management of engineering consultant procurement process and oversight of engineering consultants.
• Manage advertisement and award of construction projects including the review of contract bids and proposals; management of construction contracts including participating in the review of contractor work activities; ensures contract compliance with contractual obligations, prepares and reviews change orders and manages contract close out and acceptance.
• Coordinate projects and assignments with businesses, utilities, special districts, and other City departments. Respond to complaints and assists in solving problems related to City projects and policies; provides information to property owners, contractors, engineers, consultants, and the general public on conformance to standards, plans, specifications, and costs.
• Conduct or oversee field inspections or investigation of capital projects during construction; ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations; provides resolutions to construction problems; conduct or oversee survey, mapping, and data collection.
• Perform a variety of engineering complex calculations and computation; prepare project cost analyses; prepare estimates of time and materials costs.

The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking an Instrumentation & Electrical Technician/Senior Instrumentation & Electrical Technician to join our team!

We are seeking a highly motivated, safety-forward, resourceful, and technically skilled team player to perform a variety of duties in the Water Division at the City’s Municipal Service Center (MSC), primarily working with water pump stations and reservoirs. The position may also involve providing support to other Public Works divisions, including Landscaping, Street Maintenance, and the Hill Canyon Treatment Plant (HCTP). 

Primary Responsibilities

• Identify and perform a variety of maintenance repairs and installations and calibrations on water distribution system instrumentation, electrical equipment and facilities, including but not limited to:
  • Process measurement devices including level, flow, pH, temperature, and process chemical level/residual
  • High and low voltage electrical equipment including Motor Control Centers (MCCs), AC and DC motors, transformers, power panels, wireways, fixtures, receptacles and disconnect switches
  • Various motor control equipment and devices including variable frequency drives, motor controllers, adjustable speed drives, relays, timers and indicating devices
• Maintain and upload/download from programmable logic controllers (PLC) and field human-machine interface (HMI) projects
• Perform prescribed preventative maintenance procedures on all relevant equipment
• Actively participate in maintaining a clean and safe work environment
• Order necessary parts to maintain equipment or construct replacement parts
• Respond to night and weekend emergency calls as needed

In addition, the Senior Instrumentation and Electrical Technician shall:

• Train assigned employees in their areas of work
• Verify the work of assigned employees for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications
• Supervise the use, care, and operation of process control instrumentation, electrical, and related equipment; research, evaluate, and make changes to improve the preventative maintenance program and equipment performance
• Identify safety issues and correct them and ensure adherence to a high level of safe work practices and procedures
• Oversee and participate in planning the installation of new or improved electrical and electronic systems, equipment, and machinery; lead and train City staff on operation of new or modified systems
• Provide technical advice and support to operators, supervisors, City engineering staff, and outside agency personnel; work closely with private control system design and engineering teams
•  Oversee development and oversight of a Preventative Maintenance Program including training and adherence to best standards of electrical safety principles and practices
