The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for a Deputy Director of Public Works - Engineering in the Community Development & Services Agency within the Public Works division. Under administrative direction, the incumbent assists the Public Works Director in planning, organizing and administering the Public Works Department’s engineering functions, including Capital Improvement Program, project design, and land development functions; provides expert professional assistance to County management in areas of expertise; and performs related work as assigned. This is the advanced managerial level in the professional civil engineering series.

Examples of Duties: 

• Direct the planning of work, setting of schedules and development of controls to ensure that short and long-range goals of the department are accomplished.

Wastewater Operator II

Wastewater Operator II - A journey level classification in the Wastewater Operator series. The ideal candidate must be skilled in basic principles of mechanical, maintenance, and electrical systems. Must be able to recognize and report unusual, inefficient, or dangerous operating situations. Must have working knowledge of the functions and purpose of wastewater disposal systems; routine cleaning and basic operation of wastewater treatment equipment. Must have knowledge of algebra and geometry as required to perform the responsibilities of the position; basic knowledge of electronics and hydraulics. Must have excellent communication skills, work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work, and have a dedication to safe working practices. Must be able to work on-call as assigned. The ideal candidate  must be skilled in inspecting, operating, and maintaining a wastewater treatment plant and related lift stations including primary, secondary, tertiary and solids treatment processes. Must be able to recognize inefficient, unusual, or dangerous operating conditions. Solid experience in basic principles of mechanical, maintenance, and electrical systems; algebra and geometry; basic knowledge of electronics and hydraulics.  Must have good trouble shooting skills, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, training and leadership abilities, and have a dedication to safe working practices. Must be able to independently perform plant operations work; work on-call as assigned.

Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and three years of full-time experience equivalent to a Wastewater Operator II in a  wastewater treatment facility.  Possession of a Grade III California Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate issued by the State of California Water Resources Control Board.   

About the Engineering Group Manager - Facility
 
The Engineering Group Manager – Facility position reports to the Deputy Director for Transit and Facility Engineering, and manages a diverse, talented team of seasoned staff. This team is well-versed in the delivery of capital projects in the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority operation and maintenance responsibility. This position is responsible for directing and leading collaboration on master planning, design development (including technical analysis in support of preliminary engineering and final design), construction management and close out, overall program/project management (including scopes, costs, schedules and quality of work), management of staff resources (both VTA and consultant), and coordination with project stakeholders within VTA and the community.

 Paid intern positions are available within the Environmental Services Department. The positions are an excellent part-time opportunity for an individual with GIS skills wishing to obtain work experience in the Environmental Studies field. Current student enrollment is not required.

WORKING CONDITIONS
 Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking on level, uneven, and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard and certain tools. The position also requires near and far vision when reading written work related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal customer service. The need to lift, drag, carry, and push equipment, tools and supplies up to 50 pounds is also required. The City of Newark is looking to hire an Engineering Technician in the Public Works Department. We are seeking an eager, enthusiastic individual to join our team with a keen interest in public works projects, and an eye for drafting and design in the engineering space. 

The Engineering Technician I performs a variety of functions related to the maintenance and smooth operation of the City's traffic signal and street light system; undertakes traffic studies on parking, speed, and  signal warrants;  assists in the preparation of public works projects' plans, charts, graphs, agreements and exhibits; inspects public works and private development projects; and performs related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Education:

The Department:
The responsibilities of the City Attorney's Office broadly consist of representing and advising the City Council, City officials, and employees of all City departments in all matters of law pertaining to their offices and departments. This includes appearing on behalf of the City in legal actions or proceedings, providing the City Council with information and advice on wide range of legal matters including litigation and new legislation, and staffing City Council and City Board and Commission meetings as necessary. The City Attorney's Office provides legal advice and support on matters initiated by the City Council, City Manager's Office, and all City departments. The Position:
The City is recruiting to fill one (1) Assistant City Attorney position. Ideally, the position will be assigned to act as the primary advisor to the City’s Human Resources Department, with additional general municipal areas of work for other departments including but not limited to finance, governance, conflicts of interest, open meetings, and public records.

The ideal candidate will also have experience defending  allegations of misconduct in personnel matters, significant experience advising on human resource issues, including Fair Labor Standards Act, Meyers-Milias-Brown Act, labor negotiations, California Public Employees’ Retirement Law, state and federal benefits/leave laws, state and federal employment-related tax laws, and experience providing training in laws, regulations, policies and best practices in personnel management and workplace misconduct

Minimum Qualifications

EXPERIENCE

• One year of supervisory experience is desirable; and
• Trial experience is highly desirable.

CERTIFICATION
• Active member in good standing of the State Bar of California is required;
• Admission to the Federal District Court and Federal Appeals Court Bar is desirable.

LICENSE:
Possession of an appropriate California driver's license is required.
