This is the entry-level classification in the Maintenance Worker series. Assigned duties in this classification are routine tasks requiring no experience or limited experience. Employees at this level perform a limited range of duties under immediate supervision, in accordance with established guidelines and procedures, and are not expected to perform with the same independence of supervision and judgment on matters related to Town guidelines and procedures as are Level II/III.

Employees at this level receive immediate supervision from a manager designated by the City Manager and functional supervision from higher level Maintenance Workers. Incumbents may provide limited direction to less experienced employees in this classification or to seasonal workers.

DEFINITION

Under supervision, performs electrical, preventive and corrective maintenance, modifications of existing equipment and the installation of new electrical equipment used within the wastewater treatment plant, the wastewater lift stations and the potable water pump stations and equipment; on 24-hour emergency call for electrical repairs; and performs other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Installs, repairs, maintains or replaces electrical equipment including but not limited to, motor control centers, generators, switchgear panels, variable frequency drives, pump controllers, large distribution breakers, motors of various sizes and voltages, ground fault systems, magnetic and solid state starters, building lighting and power, HVAC equipment, reduced voltage transformers, SCADA control systems, fused disconnects, and various size and types of lighting. Shall review plans and specifications, may inspect electrical components to be installed during new construction, equipment replacement or modification. Shall maintain equipment records on the computerized maintenance system and update drawings as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: Electrical tools including but not limited to, basic hand and power tools, electric cable puller (mule), conduit benders (both hand and hydraulic), MEGGER, phase rotation meter, VOM meter, hydraulic knock-out tool, hand and power threading equipment, accepted safety practices and standards related to both personnel practices and proper handling and installation of equipment and systems. National Electrical Code; installation, operation and maintenance of motor control centers, power generation equipment, pumping control equipment with all types of motors.

Ability to: Read and interpret electrical diagrams, plans and electrical codes. Instruct others in preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance of electrical equipment and of safe work practices.  Work independently and with non-skilled electrical personnel.  Interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Physical Requirements:  Moderate and sometimes strenuous exertion required including crawling, stair climbing, lifting, carrying and/or handling up to 50 pounds for 30 minutes.  Work in confined areas and wear protective garments.  May work in conditions which require exposure to noise, noxious odors, gases and contact with wastewater.

Experience: Four years of journey-level electrical trade experience involving work performed in conformance with standard codes and both single and three phase equipment.  Experience with water or wastewater utility systems desirable.

Education:  Graduation from high school, or equivalent.  Continuing education in related subjects is desirable.

License:  Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License.

How to qualify

Education:

Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. AND

Experience:

Five (5) years of professional Museum and/or Public Art experience.

Education Substitution: Additional qualifying experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to the maximum of 2 years). Thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units equal one year.

Education and Experience: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, or a related field. At least one year of professional administrative experience is typically required at the Associate Management Analyst level and at least 3 years for the Management Analyst level.

Licenses and Certifications:

An opportunity awaits a City of Pacifica employee for the position of Equipment Operator, a position where the employee would operate varied construction and maintenance equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB. This individual operates graders, rollers, crawler tractors, front-end loaders, backhoes, street sweepers and similar equipment in working on a variety of construction and maintenance projects. Maintenance projects include the operation of equipment in the maintenance of streets, sidewalks, curb, gutter, sewers, storm drains, utilities and other public works. Other responsibilities include making minor repairs to equipment, installing sweeper brooms; may supervise several co-workers on occasion.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS. Employee must be able to drive, possess and maintain a valid Class A California driver's license. As required by the Department of Transportation, this individual is required to undergo random drug and alcohol testing.

Through a grant obtained by the Burlingame School District, the Parks and Recreation Department is partnering to offer an afterschool program on each of the 6 elementary schools and to 6th grade students at BIS.  BPRD is looking for individuals who have a passion to work with youth. 

This position will be afterschool hours until 6:30pm, Monday through Friday. 

This is a temporary, part-time position and shifts may vary depending on the program and type of Recreation Leader (not to exceed 1,000 hours per fiscal year)

About the Position:

The position is under the direct supervision of the Recreation Department. 

Responsibilities

• Serve as a mentor and role model for participants, creating a positive and inclusive community on campus.

 Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:  

• Pick up students from Enrichment classes
• Provide activities until 6pm

Knowledge of:

Philosophy, methods and techniques used in planning and leading recreation programs as well as knowledge of safety, recreation equipment and materials.

Ability to:

Plan, organize, and lead a variety of recreational activities. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.  Ability to assimilate and understand information in a manner consistent with the essential job functions. The ability to relate effectively with the public.

Education and Training:

• Experience in recreational activities, effective communication and interaction skills with youth, and ability to collaborate with staff. Must be at least 15 years old.
• Recreation leader 1 and 2: Students under the age of 18 are required to obtain a work permit from their school. All staff 18+ are required to pass a fingerprint check submitted to the Department of Justice. 
• Sr. Recreation Leader: Sufficient education and experience to satisfactorily perform the duties of the classification.

License:  

• Valid California Class C driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.

Mandatory paid training dates:

• Complete Mandated Reporter Training (will be provided by City)
• Complete First Aid and CPR/AED Training (will be provided by City)

About the Position

Under general direction, provides technical and general information for permit applications, building inspection, routine building code requirements and ordinances, inspection procedures, and permit process; checks plans for completeness on minor residential and commercial development projects; calculates permit fees; performs related work as required.

The Permit Technician is distinguished from the Administrative Clerk series in that the latter handles more administrative-type support duties for about half or more than half of the time whereas the Permit Technician handles the more technical permits processing duties for the preponderance of the time. The Permit Technician is further distinguished from the Building Inspector series in that the latter is responsible for performing building inspections and conducting field investigations to ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and laws.

Supervision is provided by the Building Official and / or Assistant Building Official. No supervision is exercised in this position.

Essential Duties

• Efficiently process building and planning permit applications and miscellaneous permits; ensure all necessary approvals are obtained prior to permit issuance.
• Perform elementary plan checking duties at the public counter, reviewing for completeness and for conformance to building and other appropriate policies and procedures as assigned.
• Courteously and accurately respond to inquiries and confer with builders, engineers, contractors, architects, and the public concerning submittal requirements, building codes, and permit regulations at the counter and over the phone.
• Assemble, route, and monitor plans and associated information through various City departments and agencies for the plan review process and permit issuance.
• Accurately enter appropriate information into logs and records of permits issued. Maintain and compile record files, forms, and reports concerning building inspection and plan review activities.
• Perform general clerical tasks and use the computer to enter data using spreadsheets and maintain information.
• Calculate various valuations, plan check fees and permit fees accurately.
• Sort and file documents and records, maintaining alphabetical, index and cross reference files. Maintain complex office records related to building inspection and code enforcement. 
• Research and assemble information from a variety of sources for the completion of forms or the preparation of reports. Make arithmetic or statistical calculations.
• Organize and maintain various departmental files. Type correspondence, reports, forms, and specialized documents from drafts, notes, or brief instructions. Proofread and check typed and other materials for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with departmental policies and regulations.
• Act as receptionist, receive and screen visitors and telephone calls and direct the caller to the proper person or personally handle the call.
• Operate standard office equipment.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
