The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned. Incumbents may be assigned to either County Jail security or Court security.

THE POSITION: As potential Police Sergeants, candidates in these roles will shoulder significant responsibility overseeing law enforcement and patrol duties during designated shifts. The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Deputy County Counsel II/III in the Office of County Counsel. Under the direction of the County Counsel and Chief Deputy County Counsel, attorneys in this series perform professional legal work by preparing and trying civil cases and providing legal counsel and assistance to the County, it’s officers, associated boards and commissions, as well as outside agencies; assist departments in interpreting regulations on a wide range of topics; represent officers and employees in litigation; and perform duties as assigned.  The Deputy County Counsel I/II/III classification is flexibly staffed and depending on background and experience, may be filled directly at the Deputy County Counsel II or III level. Involvement in formal litigation and discretionary authority increases as the incumbent progresses through the various levels.

Examples of Duties Level I:

• Researches, interprets and applies laws, court decision, statutes, ordinances and other legal authorities for use in the preparation of legal opinions, briefs, pleadings, notes, and memoranda; prepares legal reports, opinions, briefs and appeals of average difficulty under general supervision.  
• Represents, confers with and advises County officials, employees and district representatives on legal questions pertaining to their respective powers, duties, functions and obligations; may attend meetings of boards and commissions in order to provide legal advice and counsel.

Reporting to the Building Official, this specialized classification performs the full range of duties related to building inspection and code compliance activities required to ensure compliance with the City’s Municipal Code as well as the full range of routine to complex inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings; investigates citizen complaints of public nuisances and quality of life issues and seeks voluntary compliance or issues citations and initiates abatement procedures; performs inspections at various stages of construction, alteration, and repair of residential, commercial, and industrial building sites to enforce building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and environmental codes, and other governing laws and ordinances, including basic zoning, grading, fire, and safety regulations; reviews applications and conducts inspections on a wide range of business licenses and special events permits such as those for massage establishments, special events, and noise exemptions; and performs related work as required.

POSITION

Perform routine non-hazardous police office activities.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of Law Enforcement organizational structure. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:  Processes and maintains a variety of police records, files, forms, and manuals. Issues, receives, types, and processes various applications, permits, and other forms; processes warrants, permits, and citations; collects and processes fees and charges. Entries and modifications into a state and nationwide system. Processes police reports including receiving, reviewing, copying, distributing, filing, and making corrections as applicable. Logs subpoenas; collects, posts, and distributes department mail.  Answers a multi-line telephone system, providing information or routing calls to appropriate individuals. Greets the general public, giving information on the department and answering routine questions. Types, proofreads, and processes a variety of documents including general correspondence, memos, and legal documents. Operates standard office equipment including computer remote terminals. Creates and maintains files and databases. Provides fingerprint services for applicants and voluntary bookings. Performs related duties as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

File routine reports and correspondence; perform general clerical duties using typewriter and word processor.  Respond to citizen requests for information and assistance.  Complete minor reports as required. Retrieve and input data into computer terminal. Receive calls and take messages. Accumulate data and prepare monthly statistical reports.  Process requests for copies of reports from both citizens and other criminal justice agencies. Inventory supplies and order when necessary.  Process monies and fees via the cash register, prepare licenses and permits, prepare and issue bills, complete citation sign-offs.  Prepare correspondences to victims of crime.  Complete and prepare background and record checks.  Process voluntary bookings and court ordered registrations.  Perform fingerprinting and Live Scan digital printing.  Assist in the transportation of property and evidence. Assist in preparation for the auction of property. Purge files. Provide relief for full-time Community Services Officers.  Regular and consistent attendance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  One (1) year of general administrative office work experience OR six (6) months of administrative office work in a law enforcement agency. Prefer experience with substantial public interaction.

License or Certificate:  Possession of a valid California driver’s license required upon hire.

THE POSITION

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water lines, sewers, storm drains, and pump stations.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill multiple vacancies in the Sanitary Sewer/Storm Drainage Systems Division, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.  Initial position and salary of the selected candidate will be based on previous work experience and valid licenses/certificates. 

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The City of Woodland is looking to fill multiple Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II positions in the Public Works Sanitary Sewer/Storm Drainage Systems Division.  The Ideal Candidate for the current vacancy is someone who has a good understanding of all aspects of underground sewer/storm drain maintenance and repairs, and is familiar with the operation of light and heavy equipment.  This position requires a “team player” with good interpersonal, time management, and communication skills.  Candidate must be able to follow direction and display good judgment, as well as be organized, flexible, approachable, resourceful, and a positive team contributor.  Current and valid distribution certifications and Class A/B commercial driver’s license are highly desirable.

 

Utilities Maintenance Worker I:

This is the entry level class in the Utilities Maintenance Worker series.  The Utilities Maintenance Worker I may often perform many of the duties required of Utilities Maintenance Workers II but is not expected to have the depth of experience, skill level and certifications of the Utilities Maintenance Worker II. As a result, the Utilities Maintenance Worker I will have fewer opportunities to exercise independent discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

 

Utilities Maintenance Worker II:

This is the Journey level in the Utilities Maintenance Worker series. This class differs from Utilities Maintenance Worker I in that incumbent perform more complex maintenance duties including working independently, exercising judgment, and operating the full range of tools and mechanical equipment related to a specific assignment.  The Utilities Maintenance Worker II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level, or by candidates with prior work experience elsewhere.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Operate a variety of light and moderately heavy construction and maintenance equipment including such pieces as a loader, dump truck, water truck, steel rollers, High Velocity Vacuum Cleaner, mole trencher, and rubber-tired tractor with all attachments in order to perform a variety of routine construction and maintenance operations.  Operate fork lift as assigned and trained.  Perform general maintenance and repair on water distribution and/or storm and wastewater collection facilities including installation, testing, and backfill of service laterals.  Within the sewer and stormwater collections division, employees will be expected to use the Closed-Circuit Television Truck, sewer cable machine, flush sewer laterals and mains, assist in sewer tap installations, clean storm drain lines and catch basins. Within the water distribution division, employees will be expected to assist in water tap installations, install, remove, and repair water meters, hydrants, service valves, and mainline valves; take water meter and gauge readings; accurately maintain records and reports.  All Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II will operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates, utilize proper safety precautions related to all performed work and comply with the policies and procedures in the department Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP). Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance is an essential function of the position, in that employee must be present to work on facilities and equipment impacting the public’s health and safety.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS 

Respond to inquiries from the general public. Prepare as built sketches, when required to convey information to engineering for graphic documentation. Check water meters for proper operation; troubleshoot registers and repair. Initiate and discontinue water service to customer accounts as directed. Operate telemetering and flow monitoring equipment. Work cooperatively with others. Perform related duties as assigned. Both Assignments will require employees to be “On Call” as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Utilities Maintenance Worker I

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.  Courses in, or graduation from, the American Public Works Association’s Public Works Institute is desirable

Experience:  One (1) year of experience in construction or related field.

License and Certificate:  Requires possession of a California State Drinking Water Operator Certification Program (DWOCP) Grade I Water Distribution Operator (D1) and a Grade I Wastewater Collections System Maintenance certificate issued by California Water Environment Association prior to permanent appointment. 

A Pipeline Assessment and Certification Program certificate issued by the National Association of Sewer System Companies (NASSCO) is desirable.

Requires possession of a valid California Driver's License.  A Class B Driver’s permit and DMV Medical Certification are required within three (3) months of hire.  Employee must obtain a valid Class B Driver's License, a Work Zone Safety certification issued by the International Municipal Signal Association, First Aid and CPR certifications, Competent Person certification, and Confined Space certification prior to permanent appointment.

 

Utilities Maintenance Worker II

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.  Courses in or graduation from the American Public Works Association’s Public Works Institute is desirable

Experience:  One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Utilities Maintenance Worker I.

License and Certificate:  Requires possession of a California State (DWOCP) Grade I Water Distribution Operator (D1) and a Grade II Wastewater Collections System Maintenance certificate issued by California Water Environment Association upon hire.

Requires all of the certifications necessary for a Utilities Maintenance Worker I and possession of a valid Class B California Driver's License with Tank and Air Brake Endorsement upon hire.

The Position

The current opening is for a regular full-time Police Community Service Officer and is under the direction of the Police Sergeant.  The main focus of this position will be processing, storing, and controlling evidence and other property received or confiscated by the Police Department; maintain property, evidence files, and records.  This is a regular full-time, non-sworn, technical support classification associated with law enforcement in the Town Police Department and may perform a variety of responsible duties not requiring the attention of a sworn officer.

Essential Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assist in the maintenance and inventory of department equipment and supplies, and in the placement of the Radar Trailer

• Take minor incident reports and make report copies

• Provide information to, answer inquiries from, and assist as needed members of the public

• Enter and retrieve information from Police Department computers and communicate via telephone and police radio

• Fingerprint (LiveScan) members of the public and employment applicants

• Participate in community events
