The Department: 

The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City and has positioned itself as a dynamic community hub, providing access to information, literacy resources, educational programming, and promotes civic engagement in Santa Clara. The Library Department is organized into seven divisions: Administration, Adult Services, Branch Services, Customer Services, Facilities, Technical and Technology Services and Youth Services. Santa Clara City Library is in the process of finalizing and implementing its new Strategic Plan that will support the direction of future library services. 

The Position: 

This is a paraprofessional supervisory position in the classified service. The Library Circulation Supervisor is the highest level in the paraprofessional class in the Library Department, providing supervision and management for the largest number of work unit staff in the department, as well as day to day library operation. The Circulation Unit is the first line of staff that meets the public, and customer service and satisfaction are essential. The Circulation Unit is responsible for customer accounts, cash handling, effective material circulation, distribution and shelving, resource sharing, and daily delivery to all library and city locations as needed. The incumbent manages the schedule of the team, maintains standards of strong customer service for the library system through well-developed circulation processes and procedures that emphasize access and equity, and is responsible for the overall supervision of the Circulation Unit, as well as the safe operation and maintenance of circulation technology, including automated materials handling sorters and self-check machines. This position involves coordinating staffing and service procedures with the branch libraries, library bookmobile, as well as working closely with Technology for equipment support as well as with multiple vendors. The Circulation Supervisor is a member of the Library Management Team, and often acts as supervisor-in-charge. Strong communication, management and leadership experience and executive practice in fostering positive working environment, ability to work independently and within a team, supportive personnel practices, troubleshooting, patience, and flexibility will be key characteristics of this individual.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements: 

• Completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units of academic level coursework at an accredited college or university

Minimum Experience Requirements: 

• Three (3) years of recent full-time paraprofessional library experience, two (2) years of which have been at the level of Senior Library Assistant for the Santa Clara City Library or equivalent; or
• Three (3) years of recent full-time paraprofessional library experience involving public contact and computerized circulation systems, including two (2) years of recent supervisory experience

Acceptable Substitution: 

• Completion of a two year Library Technology Associate of Arts degree may be substituted for one year of paraprofessional library experience.

License/Certifications: 

• Possession of an appropriate, valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

THE POSITION

The Maintenance Worker I performs semi-skilled and skilled labor in the construction, maintenance, repair, and related service activities related to streets, sidewalk, park, grounds, irrigation, and/or turf and may be assigned to either the Streets & Fleet or Parks Maintenance Divisions. The current opening is in the Park Maintenance Division.

Typical duties in the Parks Division may include but are not limited to: Maintains turf, trees, shrubs, groundcover, top dressings, irrigation systems, playground equipment, park furnishings, restrooms, and sport field equipment; Operates and understands basic maintenance procedures for various power turf equipment, including but not limited to mowers of various sizes, edgers, blowers, chainsaws, and related equipment as required; Performs a wide variety of skilled tasks involving the use of power equipment and hand tools in the areas of park and grounds maintenance, irrigation system installation, programming, and maintenance, and tree/shrub trimming maintenance; Performs installation, maintenance and repair of various parks and grounds improvements and planting and trimming of trees/shrubs; Performs fertilizer and herbicide application related to turf and ornamental plant care; and performs other related duties as assigned.

The normal work schedule will be a 9/80 work schedule (9-hour days Monday-Thursday, 8-hour Friday with every other Friday off) from 6:00 am-3:30 pm. ADMINISTRATIVE SECRETARY

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Under direction, provides high-level administrative assistance to a department head; performs a full range of varied complex, sensitive, highly responsible, and confidential office administrative, secretarial, advanced clerical, and programmatic support functions of a general or specialized nature with only occasional instruction or assistance; exercising judgment and initiative, relieves department head of technical, as well as general administrative details; serves as a liaison with other City departments and staff, outside agencies, and the general public; and may assign and review the work of assigned clerical personnel.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Administrative Secretary classification is the advanced journey level in the administrative support series. The Administrative Secretary classification is distinguished from the Secretary class in that incumbents in the Administrative Secretary class perform more difficult and complex administrative support tasks involving a thorough knowledge of the policies and procedures for their functional areas with a significant degree of independent judgment. Incumbents in the Administrative Secretary class are assigned significant responsibility for carrying out administrative and office secretarial duties, frequently of a complex, highly sensitive, and confidential nature in an assigned functional area, often in a rapidly changing environment. Incumbents may also lead a small number of staff and perform technical duties in support of assigned operations.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES 

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1.      Perform a wide variety of varied, complex, sensitive, highly responsible, and confidential office administrative, secretarial, advanced clerical, and programmatic support functions in support of assigned department with only occasional instruction or assistance; relieve department head of administrative work including investigating and answering complaints and providing assistance in resolving operational and administrative problems.

5.      Serves as liaison between assigned office and the general public, City staff, and outside groups and agencies; provide general and specialized information and assistance regarding assigned function that may require the use of judgment, tact, and sensitivity and the interpretation of policies, rules, and procedures as appropriate; explain programs, policies, and activities related to specific program area of assignment; receive and screen office and telephone callers; calendar appointments; respond to complaints and requests for information relating to assigned responsibilities; refer callers and/or complaint to appropriate City staff for further assistance as needed and/or take or recommend actions to resolve the complaint.

6.      Develop, revise, and maintain standardized and master documents; compose correspondence, reports and informational materials; assist in designing and producing technical information handouts; copy, disseminate, and post documents and information as appropriate.

7.      Participate in the collection, compilation, and analysis of information from various sources on a variety of specialized topics related to assigned programs; participate in the preparation of reports that present and interpret data, identify alternatives, and make and justify recommendations.

8.      Maintain accurate and up-to-date offices files, records, and logs for assigned areas; develop, prepare, and monitor various logs, accounts, and files for current and accurate information including manual and computer logs other specialized or technical documents processed; maintain and process payroll records.

9.      Compile, prepare, and enter data into a computer from various sources including accounting, statistical, and related documents; create and maintain computer based tracking information and reports including assigned databases, records, and lists; create standard statistical spreadsheets; input corrections and updates; assist in the compilation of reports.

10. Utilize various computer applications and software packages; develop, enter data, maintain, and generate reports from a database or network system; create and administer mailing lists; design, maintain, and utilize data to develop reports using spreadsheet software; create, format, and revise charts, graphs, flowcharts, worksheets, booklets, brochures, and forms using appropriate software.

11. Assist in assembling and preparing the annual budget for assigned area; monitor expenditures against budget; prepare purchase requisitions and requests for payment.

12. Attend to a variety of office administrative details such as ordering supplies, arranging for equipment repair, transmitting information, and keeping reference materials up to date; organize and maintain office and specialized files in accordance with the City’s records management program.

13. Maintain calendar of activities, meetings, and various events for assigned staff; coordinate activities and meetings with other City departments, the public, and outside agencies; coordinate and arrange special events as assigned; schedule meetings; coordinate arrangements and set up meeting rooms; notify participants; prepare and/or assemble meeting materials.

14. Coordinate, make, process, and confirm staff travel arrangements; arrange for transportation and accommodations for travel, check and process expense claims.

15. Prepare special reports and perform special projects that may require researching, gathering, and organizing information from a variety of sources.

16. Serve as secretary at meetings of City boards and committees as assigned; arrange and coordinate meetings for boards, commissions, and outside agencies; assist in preparing and distributing agenda packets and correspondence; attend meetings and take, transcribe, and assure proper distribution of minutes and verbatim transcripts.

17. Maintain departmental personnel files as assigned; prepare and type personnel documents; enter timesheet information in the City’s payroll system; distribute timesheets.

18. Process mail including receiving, sorting, time-stamping, logging, and distributing incoming and outgoing correspondence and packages.

19. Provide lead supervision and direction to assigned clerical and office support staff; prepare work schedules; provide work assignments, instruction, and training; provide information and feedback to appropriate supervisory staff regarding performance of assigned staff.

The City of San Bruno Public Library is currently recruiting for a part-time, temporary Library Assistant—Homework Center Supervisor. Under the direction of the Library Services Manager, the Library Assistant—Homework Center Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of the Library's after-school Homework Center, including classroom management, homework help, supervising and training volunteers, collaborating with library staff, and maintaining accurate records of homework center attendance. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining a welcoming place for students to do their homework effectively within the larger context of the library, and for planning weekly activities and training/supervising students in the use of the 3-D printer. The Department of Public Works is currently recruiting to fill a Communications Technician position for the Radio Communications Shop. The Radio Communications shop maintains the communication system for the City of San José that is used by multiple departments, such as: Police, Fire, Department of Transportation, Parks Recreation Neighborhood Services (Park Rangers), and Public Works (Animal Care & Services).

The City of San José public safety and city services depend upon the use of commercial radio communications equipment. For police officers and firefighters, radio communications are the primary means of communicating with the 9-1-1 dispatch center in performing their duties. These vast stand-alone radio systems with fault-tolerant designs are essential to providing the public with reliable emergency response services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with demand for system survivability through any catastrophic event.

The key responsibilities of the Communications Technician may include:

The City of Lincoln is hiring for a seasonal Maintenance Worker II within the Parks and Facilities Division of the Public Works Department.

The Department is looking for an individual with at least three years of responsible experience performing municipal parks maintenance. Course work and training in maintenance, agronomy, horticulture, forestry, natural resource management, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, janitorial or related field is highly desirable.  A successful candidate will have the ability to obtain a Class B Driver’s License within one year of employment.

Under general supervision, this position performs the full array of duties assigned to classes in the Maintenance Worker series including maintenance, construction and equipment operation work in one or more Public Works divisions; occasionally assists in the training of lower-level Maintenance Workers; and performs other related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Maintenance Worker II is the journey level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Senior Maintenance Worker in that the latter performs more complex assignments and lead responsibilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

The Maintenance Worker II receives general supervision from a Public Works Supervisor. May exercise technical and functional supervision over assigned staff.

• Performs maintenance, repair, construction, equipment operation and installation work in parks and buildings.
• Parks and Buildings: Maintains lawns, shrubs, and trees; assists in spraying of herbicides and pesticides; cuts, sprays and removes weeds; clears brush and debris; assists with planting and maintenance of landscaped areas; installs, maintains, repairs and programs irrigation systems; cleans and maintains parks and city buildings; assists in the performance of minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting and remodeling tasks.
• Fills out reports and work orders; climbs or uses hydraulic aerial devices to top, trim, reshape, strip, treat and remove trees; operates airport fueling vehicles; responds to after-hours call-outs if assigned.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

Knowledge of: Practices, techniques and materials used in maintenance, construction and repair of streets, buildings, parks and water treatment facilities; knowledge of the City street system; applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations; operating characteristics and safety requirements for operation of trucks, refuse vehicles and other heavy and light equipment; defensive driving; proper lifting procedures; methods and techniques for record keeping; basic principles of mathematics; occupational hazards and standard safety procedures.

Skill to: Safely and effectively operate a variety of maintenance equipment, tools and materials.

Ability to: Perform maintenance, repair and installation of asphalt, signs, concrete, water mains and storm drains; drive and operate trucks and heavy construction equipment; respond to issues and concerns from the community; interpret, explain and apply applicable laws, codes and regulations; operate a variety of construction equipment, vehicles and power and hand tools; perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time; work at substantial heights; respond to after-hours call-outs if assigned; organize, prioritize and follow-up on work assignments; work independently and as part of a team; make sound decisions within established guidelines; analyze a complex issue, and develop and implement an appropriate response; follow written and oral directions; observe safety principles and work in a safe manner; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
