The Redwood City Fire Department is seeking individuals for the position of Cadet Firefighter. The Cadet Firefighter Program is designed to allow students an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of fire department operations. Fire Department Cadets spend a minimum of 48 hours and a maximum of 96 hours per month at the firehouse, participating in calls for service, station duties, and training. Cadets will also be expected to attend department-sponsored community functions outside of their 96-hour monthly commitment. Though the goal is to immerse the cadet into all aspects of fire department life, they are not allowed to participate in situations deemed Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH).

This Fire Cadet position is a non-benefited volunteer position.

The Department

The South San Francisco Fire Department currently has a Fire Chief, a Deputy Fire Chief, a Fire Marshal, 4 Battalion Chiefs, an Emergency Medical Services Battalion Chief, an Emergency Services Captain, 15 Fire Captains, 15 Engineers, 39 Paramedic/Firefighters, Deputy Fire Marshal, 2 Safety Inspector II, 2 Safety Inspector I, 2 Safety Inspectors (hourly/contract), 2 Management Analysts, an Administrative Assistant I, an Administrative Assistant, Senior and an Accounting Assistant II.

The South San Francisco Fire Department provides residents, businesses and visitors with service in fire suppression; emergency medical and ambulance transport; hazardous materials response; urban search and rescue; marine rescue; fire prevention, investigation and public education.  The Department operates five (5) fire stations throughout the City, plus and Emergency Operations Center, Live-Fire Training Tower and is comprised of 92 dedicated staff members.

Central County Fire Department (CCFD) serves the Cities of Burlingame and Millbrae and the Town of Hillsborough. The Department serves a population of 66,045 from six fire stations across a service area of approximately 15 square miles. CCFD is supported by 91 FTEs and a FY2024-25 operating budget of $37 million. 
 
CCFD is recruiting for a full-time Fire Inspector to join our dynamic, well-regarded Prevention Division! Under the direction and supervision of the Fire Marshal or Deputy Fire Marshal, the Fire Inspector performs responsible, technical, and specialized work in life safety inspection, fire investigation, and engineering and code enforcement. An integral member of the department, the Fire Inspector position offers a variety of exciting ways to make a direct impact in the communities we serve. From inspections, plan reviews, code compliance, fire prevention education, and investigating the cause and origin of fires, the Fire Inspector facilitates the overall safety and well-being of the public. 
 
Salary range $138,781.76 - $168,690.08; salary supplemented by highly competitive benefits. Placement within the range will be dependent on qualifications and experience.

THE JOB

The Executive Director will serve as a visionary leader for the organization and is responsible for coordinating and expanding various mental health services, ensuring team members are meeting desirable outcomes and providing excellence in service to the communities. They will direct the development of organization-wide goals, policies, and procedures and keep the Governing Board aware of financial conditions, program progress, and the organization’s needs. This job requires financial savvy and organizational development expertise. Implementing strategic plans is essential for this role, as it involves spearheading innovative change. Additionally, the Executive Director must be able to provide policy guidance and ensure compliance with governmental regulations. They will also serve as a representative of TCMHA in meetings with governmental agencies, community groups, and other key stakeholders.

DEFINITION: Under general supervision, assists instructor in swim classes, enforces all rules and regulations pertaining to the safety and well-being of visitors and patrons. Perform related work as required. NOTE: This program provides on the job training to prepare a swim aide to become a Swim Instructor. This entry-level aquatics position is designed to give valuable training and orientation to the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program, and the Mill Valley Aquatics Program for Individuals who desire to work in aquatics but don’t have required experience. Minimum age required to apply, 14 years old. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Assist Swim Instructor to provide all levels of swimming to all age groups.
• Follow the Instructors’ guidelines and directions working with the group or an individual as needed.
• Maintain certain class records and reports as required.
• Prepare instructional equipment, and clean up after classes.
• Provide basic locker room checks and regular restroom and facility light cleaning. 
• Deal tactfully and courteously with the public.

• Respond to emergencies based upon facility emergency plan guidelines, which may include rendering CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation)/using an AED.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: No experience required. CPR certification strongly desired. 

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Candidates receiving a conditional job offer must pass a pre-placement fingerprint review. Candidates must possess a current CPR/AED and First Aid certificate and be comfortable calling 911 in an emergency.

Through a grant obtained by the Burlingame School District, the Parks and Recreation Department is partnering to offer an afterschool program on each of the 6 elementary schools and to 6th grade students at BIS.  BPRD is looking for individuals who have a passion to work with youth. 

This position will be afterschool hours until 6:30pm, Monday through Friday. 

This is a temporary, part-time position and shifts may vary depending on the program and type of Recreation Leader (not to exceed 1,000 hours per fiscal year)

About the Position:

The position is under the direct supervision of the Recreation Department. 

Responsibilities

• Serve as a mentor and role model for participants, creating a positive and inclusive community on campus.

 Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:  

• Pick up students from Enrichment classes
• Provide activities until 6pm

Knowledge of:

Philosophy, methods and techniques used in planning and leading recreation programs as well as knowledge of safety, recreation equipment and materials.

Ability to:

Plan, organize, and lead a variety of recreational activities. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.  Ability to assimilate and understand information in a manner consistent with the essential job functions. The ability to relate effectively with the public.

Education and Training:

• Experience in recreational activities, effective communication and interaction skills with youth, and ability to collaborate with staff. Must be at least 15 years old.
• Recreation leader 1 and 2: Students under the age of 18 are required to obtain a work permit from their school. All staff 18+ are required to pass a fingerprint check submitted to the Department of Justice. 
• Sr. Recreation Leader: Sufficient education and experience to satisfactorily perform the duties of the classification.

License:  

• Valid California Class C driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.

Mandatory paid training dates:

• Complete Mandated Reporter Training (will be provided by City)
• Complete First Aid and CPR/AED Training (will be provided by City)

Benefits

Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act: California Paid Sick Leave Benefit, as amended effective 1/1/2024. This benefit accrues at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked and is available after 90 days of employment. Under general supervision, an Employee Assistance Counselor provides clinical assessment, short-term counseling and referral of City and County employees experiencing difficulties related to personal or work-related problems, such as stress, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, emotional concerns or relationship issues. A Counselor conducts seminars, trainings, and consultations on issues related to personal and organizational wellness; prepares records and reports; and performs related duties as required.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

1. Provides clinical assessment, short-term counseling and referral services to employees of the City and County who are experiencing difficulties related to personal or work-related problems, such as stress, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, emotional concerns or relationship issues; provides counseling of family members and significant others as appropriate.
2. Facilitates seminars and trainings for employees and management on personal, interpersonal and organizational issues such as the effective management of stress, anger and emotions, workplace negativity and dealing with difficult people.
3. Assists in evaluation efforts to determine the effectiveness of services provided.
4. Educates employees, supervisors and managers regarding EAP service offerings, how to access services, early identification of personal and workplace problems, and referrals to the program.
5. Provides trauma response, crisis intervention and mediation/conflict resolution services as requested.

The Community

The Department

The City’s Volunteer Fire Department is older than the City itself, founded as a volunteer corps in 1861 to replace a U.S. Army fire brigade. The largest volunteer urban Fire Department in California has undergone change to become a combination department, composed of both paid and volunteer staff. In addition, the department provides Advance Life Support (ALS) services and responds to over 3,000 calls for service annually. Staffing includes a Fire Chief, one Deputy Chief, one Fire Marshal, six Fire Captains, six Fire Engineers, an Administrative Assistant and 10 Reserve Volunteer Firefighters. Dispatch is staffed through the Public Safety Dispatch Center housed at the Police Department. Ambulance services are handled through a countywide contract. The Suisun City Department responds to fire, emergency and medical calls, as well as attaching units to wildland strike teams, when possible.

The Position

The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented problem-solver with a focus on public service. Recruits enter a training program to develop skills necessary to demonstrate abilities to respond to emergency fire and medical alarms, to protect life and property, to participate in fire suppression training and emergency medical training, to assist with station, apparatus and equipment maintenance, and to do related work as required. Volunteers are required to participate in a minimum of two 24 hour shifts or four 12 hour day shifts each month and complete assigned training.
