The Department:

The Parks and Recreation Department provides planning, development, operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of the City's neighborhood parks, open space, water sites, recreation buildings, and trails.

 

The Position:

Under supervision, to perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in connection with the development and maintenance of City parks and recreational facilities.

 

As an As-needed Laborer, the successful incumbent will work in the department, performing routine maintenance on various parks and facilities including the city-owned cemetery. This position will assist in maintenance and repair using a variety of tools and specialized equipment. 

The Laborer position performs varied, unskilled and skilled manual tasks related to landscape maintenance and sanitization. Typical tasks include cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and buildings, loading trash and leaves in truck, litter abatement, mowing, edging, cleaning park sites, graffiti abatement, and operating a variety of hand/power tools and heavy equipment as needed. This position may require working weekends, holidays, and after hours. Must be able to read, speak, and write English at a basic level, follow written and oral instruction, and perform heavy lifting.  

 

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

TEMPORARY POTTERY INSTRUCTOR

Recreation Services Division is seeking self-motivated, energetic, responsible individuals interested in employment as a pottery instructor for adults. Under general supervision of the Recreation Services Coordinator, pottery instructors are responsible for teaching pottery techniques through lecture and demonstrations.  Classes are run year-round and meet once a week for 3 hours. Class sessions are six weeks long and include a week break for cleaning and restocking after two consecutive class sessions (every 12 weeks).

• Teach pottery/ceramic classes by leading and demonstrating techniques associated with the subject matter

The City of American Canyon Parks & Recreation Department invites energetic, creative and responsible individuals to apply for the position of Program Coordinator. Program Coordinators are part-time, temporary staff members who work under Recreation Coordinators to oversee and implement a wide range of recreation programming. The City is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor who will be an integral part of the Maintenance Division in the Public Works Department. The Supervisor will work with the Maintenance leadership team to plan, direct and supervise a wide variety of tasks related to one or more of the Division's four sections - streets; fleet and equipment; buildings and facilities; and landscape and parks. The initial assignment will be supervising the landscape and parks sections. 

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Education :

Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent 

Experience:

Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in one or more of the following: building and facilities maintenance, fleet and equipment maintenance, landscape and parks maintenance or streets maintenance, including two (2) years of lead responsibility or other qualifying higher level public works maintenance experience.

License or Certificate:

• Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.
• When responsible for the Landscape and Parks section: 

              a. Playground Safety, Pest Control Advisor and/or Arborist certificates may be required within

                   twelve months of assignment.

• When responsible for the Fleet and Equipment section: 

                 a. M1 and/or Class A driver license with tank endorsement may be required within twelve months

                      of assignment.
