The Fire Department is proud to serve the Cities of Belmont, Foster City and San Mateo as a Joint Powers Authority. The Department collectively has ten engines and two trucks operating out of nine fire stations.  There are 164 full-time employees assigned to one of the following divisions:  Administration, Community Risk Reduction, Training, Emergency Preparedness, Fire Operations and EMS.  The Department serves nearly 164,000 residents daily with a day-time population around 230,000.   Additionally, the department participates in a mutual aid program throughout the county, helping to serve a million people daily. The Department

The Suisun City Fire Department was established in 1861. The men and women of SCFD take great pride in the customer service that they provide to all who live, work and travel through Suisun City. SCFD is a mission-driven fire agency that remains focused on customers and safety. It is our goal that all members strive to attain a synergistic balance of education, training, and experience to provide excellent emergency management on every call. SCFD is a combination agency staffed with both full-time and volunteer fire personnel. We currently operate two Type 1 Fire Engines, one Type 3 Fire Engine, Ladder Truck, three Command Vehicles, one Type 5 Fire Engine, Zodiac Rescue Boats, and one USAR Trailer. The Suisun City Fire Department is an ALS (Paramedic) level department, supported by Medic Ambulance for transport services. Station 47 is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Position

The ideal candidate would know and be responsible for performance of the full scope of assigned fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical care responsibilities, and for the protection of life and property. New incumbents may have limited related experience but are expected to learn the full range of duties and responsibilities, perform duties with minimal direct supervision, and exercise sound judgment and discretion in making decisions. Firefighters work a 48/96 work schedule, comprised of two 24-hour shifts followed by four 24-hour days off, averaging 56 hours per week.

The Department

The City’s Volunteer Fire Department is older than the City itself, founded as a volunteer corps in 1861 to replace a U.S. Army fire brigade. The largest volunteer urban Fire Department in California has undergone change to become a combination department, composed of both paid and volunteer staff. In addition, the department provides Advance Life Support (ALS) services and responds to over 3,000 calls for service annually. Staffing includes a Fire Chief, one Deputy Chief, one Fire Marshal, six Fire Captains, six Fire Engineers, an Administrative Assistant and 10 Reserve Volunteer Firefighters. Dispatch is staffed through the Public Safety Dispatch Center housed at the Police Department. Ambulance services are handled through a countywide contract. The Suisun City Department responds to fire, emergency and medical calls, as well as attaching units to wildland strike teams, when possible.

The Position

The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented problem-solver with a focus on public service. Recruits enter a training program to develop skills necessary to demonstrate abilities to respond to emergency fire and medical alarms, to protect life and property, to participate in fire suppression training and emergency medical training, to assist with station, apparatus and equipment maintenance, and to do related work as required. Volunteers are required to participate in a minimum of two 24 hour shifts or four 12 hour day shifts each month and complete assigned training.

Central County Fire Department is looking for Firefighter/Paramedics (Lateral)!

• Laterals must have two (2) years of continuous firefighting experience to apply/qualify.
• Individuals in the process of obtaining their Paramedic license are encouraged to apply, but will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Deputy County Counsel I/II/III in the Office of County Counsel. Under the direction of the County Counsel and Chief Deputy County Counsel, attorneys in this series perform professional legal work by preparing and trying civil cases and providing legal counsel and assistance to the County, it’s officers, associated boards and commissions, as well as outside agencies; assist departments in interpreting regulations on a wide range of topics; represent officers and employees in litigation; and perform duties as assigned.  The Deputy County Counsel I/II/III classification is flexibly staffed and depending on background and experience, may be filled directly at the Deputy County Counsel II or III level. Involvement in formal litigation and discretionary authority increases as the incumbent progresses through the various levels.

• Researches, interprets and applies laws, court decision, statutes, ordinances and other legal authorities for use in the preparation of legal opinions, briefs, pleadings, notes, and memoranda; prepares legal reports, opinions, briefs and appeals of average difficulty under general supervision.  
• Represents, confers with and advises County officials, employees and district representatives on legal questions pertaining to their respective powers, duties, functions and obligations; may attend meetings of boards and commissions in order to provide legal advice and counsel.  
• Represents, confers with, and advises clients of the Office of the County Counsel with respect to all aspects of civil law, including litigation in the area of probate, police powers, zoning, planning, social services, health care, child welfare, disciplinary appeals and grievances, real and personal property, assessment and taxation, and other civil areas of public law.  
• Researches and prepares formal written ordinances, resolutions, contracts, agreements, leases, conveyances and other legal documents.

Examples of Duties Level II (in addition to the above):

• Prepares pleadings and other papers in connection with trials, hearings and other legal proceedings; performs research, investigation and detailed legal preparation for the trial or defense of the County in cases involving condemnation, damage or other civil suits.  
• Makes recommendations to the County Counsel concerning the advisability to prosecute, compromise or dismiss civil litigation.
• Drafts proposed legislation, analyzes pending legislation and recommends County position on legislation.

Examples of Duties Level III (in addition to the above):

• Prepares difficult legal reports, opinions, briefs and appeals using independent judgment and discretion.  
• Attends meetings of boards and commissions in order to provide legal advice and counsel. 

Reporting to the Building Official, this specialized classification performs the full range of duties related to building inspection and code compliance activities required to ensure compliance with the City’s Municipal Code as well as the full range of routine to complex inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings; investigates citizen complaints of public nuisances and quality of life issues and seeks voluntary compliance or issues citations and initiates abatement procedures; performs inspections at various stages of construction, alteration, and repair of residential, commercial, and industrial building sites to enforce building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and environmental codes, and other governing laws and ordinances, including basic zoning, grading, fire, and safety regulations; reviews applications and conducts inspections on a wide range of business licenses and special events permits such as those for massage establishments, special events, and noise exemptions; and performs related work as required.

City offices operate on a 9/80 schedule: Monday-Thursday for 9 hours, 8-hours one Friday, off/closed the other Friday. This position is located at City Hall, 13777 Fruitvale Avenue; operational hours are 7:30 am-5:00 pm.

The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighter Trainees who, under immediate supervision, actively participate in the Firefighter Academy training program. Trainees perform all related learning and testing activities in preparation for the Firefighter/Engineer classification within the Fire Department of the City of Redwood City.  See Firefighter Trainee job description for more details. The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighters or Firefighter/Paramedics who, under direction of the Fire Captain, will perform firefighting and fire prevention duties aimed at protecting life and property, operate and maintain firefighting equipment, and provide basic medical assistance.  Firefighters also provide Basic Life Support first responder pre-hospital emergency medical care and emergency medical assistance, perform minor station maintenance, and participate in training to maintain skills.  Please see the Firefighter/Engineer job description for more details.

Required Qualifications:

A typical way to demonstrate the applicant possesses the required knowledge and ability may be obtained through the following ways:

1. Minimum of 30 semester college units.  Completion of college credits in the study of Fire Science or similar field.
2. High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D. or California Certificate of Proficiency).
3. Successful completion of a Firefighter 1 equivalent training program, or possession of a California State Fire Training Firefighter 1 certificate.

Required Certification and License:

1. Must possess a valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate or valid Paramedic license.

This is a temp/seasonal position, limited to 1,000 hours worked within a fiscal year (July 1 thru June 30) that receives no City benefits other than what is mandated by the State of California.  This cadetship is expected to last one year.  The exact duration may vary based on department needs and cadet performance.

• Administrative Support:  Assist with administrative tasks such as record-keeping, data entry, and inventory management.  Gain exposure to the behind-the scenes operations of a fire department. 
• Physical Fitness:  Work towards maintaining a level of physical fitness necessary for performing firefighting duties.  Engage in physical training and conditioning activities as directed by the department.
• Professional Development:  Actively seek opportunities for learning and growth within the fire service.  Take part in discussions with experienced firefighters to gain insights into career pathways and development strategies.

Desired Qualifications:

• Recent High School Grad preferred.
• Previous participation in a recognized firefighting explorer program, academy, fire science program, or related program or activity.
